ON A REDEMPTION MISSION

I... am Oceaniqo. (Formerly known as Iron Croc)
I'm a guy who loves music, the ocean, video games, and life.
I once played in an all-volunteer wind orchestra. :) Not one of us is professional. Except for the trumpeter.
I'm a man of few words, but when I do speak, I try to make people happy whenever I can. :) Now, why am I here?
I'm here because of the IGMC 2014. I did the unthinkable: I made a game-breaking-bug free GAME from start to finish in only a month!
The accomplishment itself was an undertaking few can say they accomplished.
The game itself was a complete flop, garnering three fans and a lifelong friend. I wouldn't have done it any other way.
BUT! I knew I could do better. So I set out on making this game into the best thing I possibly could. Then life happened and I had took a huge hiatus.
This is my third day back, things are very rocky, very shaky, and I've lost my way quite a bit. I hope to regain the knowledge I lost and then some.
I hope to better myself, create games I know that I'll enjoy, and that others will too. I'd even like to garner a little crowd! This mission will be difficult, but in the end I will succed.
Thanks for reading. Peace. :)

Yeah, making games in a month can be tricky! Though, there's after-event development, and if nothing else, there's always next game!

That doesn't sound like a complete flop. If I got a lifelong friend for every game I completed, I'd have like 25 friends by now!
Welcome to RMN! Enjoy your stay!

Which was your game, if you don't mind me asking. Was it one of the RPG entries or non-RPG ones?
I assure you, no games truly flopped in the competition. The fact that you made the deadline and completed a game is, in itself, something of a victory. Many people never make it even that far, so don't consider it a failure. ^.^
The thing is, a lot of the games that came through the competition were good games, but they were judged against a more formalised kind of criteria that was set up beforehand, so games that would have shone pretty well if just released on a site like rmn or rmw didn't get as much shinies attached to them since there were a lot more games and polish was a huge factor in the score. It wasn't enough just to look good and play well - you also had to have a high degree of polish to hit the top scores.
Hell, even if your game didn't get through to the numbers round, there were a lot that were knocked out for small reasons - whether there was a game-breaking bug in the first 10 minutes (unfortunately, that's what happened to Sunken Spire - a game breaker that stopped progress) or a small handful of little issues that added up to a certain amount of mark-offs (spelling, grammar, mapping issues - if a certain amount were found in the first ten minutes they were also cut from the numbers list) they got cut out. That isn't to say that the games didn't have merit or weren't decent games; they just needed that bit more polish and bug-checking to help them pass that stage.
In fact the only games that flopped were the troll games or the ones that weren't completed/cheated in some way. The rest all deserve some praise.
Welcome to RMN~

Thank you for the kind words, Liberty. It was a RM game called Princess of Peril. The "room full of guards" is what people remember, *chuckle*
To be fair though, I'm glad I did it. I learned in one month FROM MYSELF than I'd ever hope to learn in a year. Not to mention the musings of whatever reviewers.
Thank you! In time, I plan to do just that.

author=kentonaThank you! I suppose you're right, hm? Out of all the great musicians out there, he even chose me to compose his OST for his (rather large) game. :)

author=TungerManUI'm so glad! That means a TON to me! Music, next to my life, is one of the most important things to me! Here, a link to my OST, formally completed. :)
Oh, it's Iron Croc! I was wondering who's that Oceaniqo I was following on Twitter. Welcome! I love your music.
