HOW DO PEOPLE FEEL ABOUT RPGS WITH NO CONSUMABLE ITEMS?

Got me thinking. Could you have - like an alchemy game, perhaps - a game with items, but they don't get consumed? And have some other balance issues with it. Like items don't use Medicine, they are Spell Scrolls, and you customize potions to (unless precisely brewed) heal you, but also slap you with a random stat?

You can re-brew potions to try to remove the drawback, but it's hard, because potion ingredients perhaps have an elemental affinity that you have to match.
Sounds like a pretty creative way to handle items.
Craze
why would i heal when i could equip a morningstar

I've seen some RM* games (damned if i remember which ones) where you equipped your items as basically one-off items. Say if you equipped a Medicinal Herb, you could heal yourself for 50 HP once per battle. This would be pretty easy to do in even vanilla Ace!

edit: except for the once-per-battle thing. but you could always use Yanfly's Skill Restrictions:

It's actually just as simple as this. Make ten or twelve copies of each usable item, set as Skill Scroll, and Unlimited Use. Set as Item Name for what's Displayed.

Then in the skill screen...

Potion heals based based on stats (alot more if you have my quickpatch), but also poisons.
The only RPG I've played without healing items was Xenoblade and it worked great for that game because all your HP was restored shortly after the end of a battle. Plus there was healing spells that you could use in battle that required no MP you just had to wait a bit between spells.

If you wanted to make an RPG Maker game without Items I suggest going into the script and removing the Item menu. Otherwise you just have an empty useless menu. Then again you could keep that item menu around for other stuff.
Didn't Ni No Kuni have no healing items? I remember that they had these orb things that healed you HP and MP slightly during battle.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Ni No Kuni definitely had healing items.

I forgot about those. I really need to play that game. After I lost my saved data, I lost the motivation to play again.
That can be a thing, if done right.

Hell, in some of my games, you can rely almost entirely on healing skills and only rarely ever have to depend on actual items.

Mayhem Maiden actually limits the number of healing items you can carry around, but has enough healing skills that you can rely almost exclusively on them (A random free heal every turn, a targeted healing skill, Another targeted healing skill, a counterattack-heal, a full-party counterattack-heal, and that's just what you START with)
