Of all of the Nintendo properties that would get the live action treatment, I figured it would be this. Nintendo has a pritty big track record of keeping their characters close to the chest (which might be why they still make their own consoles.) So it suprised me that Nintendo would let anyone make a tv series based off of Zelda, one of their most protected franchises.
Uh, there was already a cartoon about it so it's not such a big surprise, really. XD
Yes but since the 1993 Super Mario Bros film, what Live Action Work, other than commercials, did they do?
Considering it is early in pre-development it might be that Nintendo isn't allowing this at all in the end.

Does Zelda cereal count as live-action? NIN-TEN-DO two cereals in one!

Netflix has been pretty hit-or-miss on their original programming. I'd watch it, though.
I think it's gonna be good. If you have Netflix at all, you should know what Orange is the New Black is, and that was critically acclaimed. Hemlock Grove is also pretty good. Zelda is in good hands.
Well a distribution/production company is not exactly the biggest indicator of anything. If it was then Battlefield Earth would have been great because it was from the same company that did The Matrix.
It's a good thing your opinion is not critical consensus then.

Speaking of the article linked I love how it says at the end:
A Netflix spokeswoman declined to comment. A Nintendo spokesman said the company “doesn’t comment on rumors and speculation.”

Sure seems like a done deal.
Is the 'not' in this topic supposed to be 'now'? Maybe someone should fix it.

To be totally fair dude Battlefield Earth is almost universally considered to be one of the worst movies ever made by human hands.

Unless we're on the same page, I think?

Wow, didn't even see that the first time. Sorry about that.

I do hope it happens though. It would be awsome to see a well done tv series based off of a video game property. It seems like right now western directors have a hard time making anything good based off of a video game franchise.

(Clearing a duplicate) me and my work computer are about to kill each other.

Yeah, I am incredibly hopeful about this. It sounds doable, and interesting, in a Game of Thrones for the whole family way.
I tend to disagree when people moan about videogame movies though. Mortal Kombat, Doom, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy:SW, and Silent Hill were great. They weren't 100% like the source material, but that's a good thing. Different format, different rules!
Doom even gave us not only Godmode, but First-Person view to boot. Mortal Kombat gave us a secret stage too! One of my favourite parts was the Reptile fight. Just thinking about it gets me pumped!
We can decline to comment on Double Dragon, Super Mario and MK2, etc. Bad movies are bad movies. Not just because theyre game movies. Those were just terrible on a movie level. I even forgive the Super Mario 'world ideas'. Apparently Bob Haskins and uh, Luigi guy, were so opposed to the script that they'd show up drunk to make it through working the scenes.
Poor Bob Haskins... Such a good actor.
I hope this turns out well although I'd prefer movies since TV shows have lower budgets.
I actually posted a topic about a possible live action Zelda a long time ago.
here it is:
http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/15989/

My possible actor/actress choices for Link was - Orlando Bloom/Ellen Page/Donald Glover/John Cho

For Zelda - Natalie Portman

For Ganondorf - Naveen Andrews

For Dampe - Steve Buscemi

For Tingle - Danny Devito

Check out my old post for more details.

If Danny Devito is Tingle, I will literally slap a child out of pure joy.
Oh my gosh Danny Devito as Tingle would be awesome. I think Hugo Weaving should be Ganondorf. But thats just because I think he's a great bad guy and could cheese it up if he needs to.
