Text based with pictures something story driven not like Shadowgate where you just sorta explore I want story :D
Woah, Craze, you're the first person I've ever seen who knows what Torin's Passage is. I loved that game as a kid.
author=HousekeepingI've seen it before clips of it but never played it.

it's kinda short but a very amusing and well-animated sierra game. not one of its all-time classics, but i definitely like it. it has some very memorable characters!
housekeeping, i am utterly unsurprised that you played sierra adventures as a child

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Maniac Mansion
Radical Dreamers
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

How can you mention Maniac Mansion and not Day of the Tentacle? S'wrong with you?
That sounds sexy!

I mean two out of four of my suggestions are already cheating, since he asked for 80s games. Day of the Tentacle is the 90s sequel to an 80s game. It's a good game too, but he wanted ones from the 80s if possible.
Holy Hera someone else liked Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom!
As for simmilar games around the same time... None really come to mind. Tombs and Treasures?
Interesting to note is that PTITSK for the NES is a port of a computer game.
Anyway, I share your enthusiasm for the game - I wish there were more games with the humour and gameplay of PTITSK for the NES.

It was good entertainment I enjoyed it a lot. My only real complaint was the rock paper scissors. I wish they came up with something more skill based.

Well, they kinda did. It wasn't great, but certain enemies were hinted to have weaknesses in regards to the game.
I remember being so confused with the rock paper scissors thing, with the pointing in a direction - seemed totally random to me.
Now, having japanese friends it makes sense. RPS is played slightly differently in Japan. Basically, if you lose the RPS portion, the winner points in a direction and you have to look anywhere but in that direction, or you lose.

Huh I thought it was just a thing they added to to the game to change it up a bit. That's interesting to know.
