VIDEO GAME MUSIC LEGALITY ISSUES

Hi, I'm new at the forums and I'm sure that this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find a thread that dealt with it enough.
I'm planning on just making a small game and posting it up on this website.
I have a couple of video game soundtracks from around the late '90s and I was wondering if it was legal to put some of the tracks from those albums in my game and then post it online on this website.
I wouldn't try to make any profit, of course.
I'm sure that that the lawyers of Square Enix aren't patrolling websites like this all the time, but I just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't get into any sort of legal trouble.
And if the actual MP3s from the album are illegal, would fan-made MIDIs of the songs (with minor changes) also be illegal?
Thanks.

It is illegal, but you won't get sued over it unless you try to make a profit off of it.
It is an unfortunately accepted practice in this community, but you won't get any flak for it.

Use it tastefully, though. Nobody likes listening to every song they already heard in Final Fantasy X.
