Yet I find myself inexplicably taking place in them from time to time.
They always piss me off, though, and I spend the rest of the day (and possibly even some of the next days) feeling angry at how stupid other people are.

Exactly my perspective. Less wattage light globes are oft cheeper and you wont have to pay for the shading.

Actually, you will! But I guess none of you guys have ever moved out of home and actually purchased a light bulb or anything.
A lampshade directs light - it doesn't block it. You'll notice that a lamp is normally at about eye level and it WOULD hurt your eyes if you look at it. What the shade does is disperse the light up and down, and not to the sides, so that your eyes do not get hurt.

I've been sick recently. My sense of taste has been kinda screwed up, which usually doesn't happen. In particular, ground beef tastes rotten (not like I've ever eaten rotten meat, but that's exactly what I would imagine it'd taste like). It was great fun eating at Taco Bell, let me tell you.
I tried drinking different sodas while I was there, and I couldn't taste much except for the Sierra Mist. Everything else was pretty tasteless.

I've been sick recently as well. I've had this virus that has been making me suffer from migranes all the time. It is finally starting to go and i will be able to finally get back to work. :D
