Fructose is fuond in fresh fruit, fruit juice, jams and soft drinks.
In tests, fat people given large doses of fructose were more likely to put on weight around the stomach than those given glucose.
Scientists at the University of California put 33 overweight adults on a normal diet for 10 weeks, followed by another ten weeks in which half the group received a quarter of their calories from fructose. The other half received the same amount of calories from glucose.
They found that both groups put on the same amount of weight - about 3Ib - but those on the high fructose diet put on fat around the middle, while in the glucose group the extra weight was spread across the body.
Dr Peter Havel, who led the study, said more research was needed to
establish the exact link between fructose and obesity.
Found this on another forum site of mine so i decided to share it here. What are your thoughts on this. This immediately interested me when i read this. Let's start a discussion.
I swear some scientists just make shit up as they go. xD They always just seem to come up with these things, but no one ever takes much notice. I don't think anyones going to think twice about eating some fruit.
Hahahah this is so stupid.
A QUARTER OF THEIR CALORIES were from Fructose. That's like drinking I don't know four or five cans of soda every day. Of course they got fat. You'd have to eat like 20 apples or something to get that much sugar from fruit.
I'm 100% sure that the problem is HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP not fruit Jesus Christ.

That is the most retarded study.
Not only are fruits for the most part very low calorie, but this thing is actually trying to equate the health risks between a batch of fresh fruit and soda(which have a whole lot of artificial crap in them and are often cited as a reason for obesity whether or not they have fructose).
And as abley said, High Fructose Corn Syrup, which is often found in sodas, jams and juices as a sugar replacement because it's cheap as fuck, is probably the actual problem.

As a biology major I can confirm this. It's ironic that such a science heavy major can enlighten you to the stupidity of scientism.
Scientists confirm that fat people get fatter when they eat thigns that will probably make them fat and don't excercise, fatties.
Not as bad as that one time where the government spent millions of dollars on psychologist to figure out why prisoners wanted to escape ... prison.

It was the food, from what I heard.
I'd bring up the fact that this study sucks to begin with because they didn't have a real control: all they people they used in the study were obese. Of course, it didn't seem to occur to them to see if the same thing would happen in normal weight people.
Echoing the sentiment that it's high fructose corn syrup, not fructose itself that breaks down into fat rather than energy. It's just too f*cking big for ATP to actually break down fully, unlike glucose, which isn't really that big.
