BLACK AND ETHNIC FACE-SETS KICKSTARTER HAS LAUNCHED!
Posts
Thank you all for the constructive feedback. I did share your concerns with the team.
Our artists really believe in the cause of diversity and are inclusive from everything I've observed, both in their portfolios and when speaking with them personally. They took a price cut to make this Kickstarter's initial funding goal possible, so I know the cause is as important to them as it is to you or me.
If it speeds up the process (rather than wait for another Kickstarter), backers have two options:
There's the option to "vote" on stretch goals, where you can vote for a specific race and character type. This "vote" is available to all backers, at all reward levels. Let us know what groups you want.
There's also the option to contribute a new race at the $100 reward level, if you want to be very specific. This is an exclusive reward, so sharing this face-set with the world is the decision of the backer. There's only two left of those currently.
If this doesn't suffice, then of course another KS is always an option.
"Black and ethnic" races means that the races we want to see in the art pack aren't European white. Blacks are definitely included, and we'd love to see a large selection of other races; the more the merrier. We'll see how far our funding takes us.
Thank you for your support!
Thank you for your support, Yellow Magic!
Thank you, RedMask! The campaign ends on May 1st, actually. I've been suggesting April 30th to avoid any hiccups with the hour.
Thank you for sharing the links to these, Liberty. They look great. Btw, the Kickstarter's initial goal provides eight face-sets (4 heroes and 4 heroines). We appreciate your support!

Regardless, this is pretty promising so I've backed the project. Good luck!!

I've never made an online transaction in my life. I do want to support this though. Not sure if I'd ever use the face sets but I like the idea of giving people more diverse options for characters.
Seems I have until May 2nd to support it.

Oh, I remember nessy did some dark skinned people too, with Scinaya I think it was? They're in the resource section here. Um, one sec.

Mercyn, don't multipost. It's against site rules and I've noticed you've done it quite often at times. Edit any extra replies into your previous post instead. It's why the handy edit button exists.
I've edited the posts into one post and gotten rid of the extras but don't do it again. It shits up a thread and makes it annoying to read, breaking the flow.

Thanks for showing me what that means, Liberty. I'm new to social media. I don't think you'll see me multipost again.
It would be so great if you could make one bust for each character too. Think about that as a stretch goal!
I think this is a great project and the example portfolios are very impressive. Good luck!

Thank you for the feedback djbeardo! I'm sure the artists will appreciate hearing that. We'll try our best to make a stretch goal, but our campaign hasn't picked up in awhile '>.< Hope it will now that more people are getting their tax returns, ha!
I was thinking about doing a promotion for it... like all backers get a gift code for an online game writing course I teach, even if they only donated a $1. They can redeem it for themselves or give the code to a friend. I just don't know if many backers will be interested in that; though I want to thank them for supporting.
Anyways, stay posted and help us spread the word if you can. We'll share the results of the Kickstarter here eventually! :)
Yo, nice to meet'cha, project artist Sae at your service.
I'm checkin' out this hullabaloo over vague terminology. Sorry about that.
If you've a hankerin' for specifics I was planning on drawing a Latino and dark-skinned Asian (like Philippines) and African character with as much distinction as RTP style will allow me.
Though speaking of the limitations of RTP style--
while I hope to enable the specifics of your racial needs, some characters like the sample boy will be ambiguous enough to be used as multiple races.
Doesn't sound like there's a lot of cultural pride behind that sentiment, but he's a char of dark-skinned race that might not otherwise be an option to someone without custom resources, which is the more the point of this kickstarter as far as my understanding goes.
Hope that quelled some question-tanks, but feel free to shoot me a ? if they're still a rumblin'.
Peace, my buttermilk lovelies-

That's great, Sae - thank you for the specifics! I thought the sample character was really hard to pin down in terms of nationality myself, and I liked that about him. He actually reminds me of a handsome Brazilian I once met. But there are a few possibilities with him, like you pointed out earlier.
I have been looking for a project like this FOR AGES. BLESS YOUR HEARTS
But seriously, the lack of racial diversity in the RM facesets always threw me off... its always so hard as someone with 0 art ability trying to go through and edit skin tones, so i'm stuck with a figuratively vanilla cast...

We're happy to oblige. You echoed my thoughts - I'm not an artist either, and I'm grateful sooz and sae were willing to take this project head-on.
I'll be pledging on Thursday, since that's payday, but I'm very excited! I've been trying to boost this by posting it on my Tumblr too, heh heh.

They told me I was mad when I said I was going to create a spidertable. Who’s laughing now!!!

Wooo! Thanks, y'all! :D
This is a really good idea! I've always wanted to do more of a middle eastern setting, or just one set in the desert, but the RTP makes that a near impossibility barring some face editing, but I'm a lazy little bushy tailed punk, so this is great.
I see that it's already backed all the way. I'll still throw in what money I can from my paypal. Hope to see this get completed!

Mo money, mo facesets! :D
So tempted to back this simply because there aren't enough fat faced people, Spaniards, blacks, or even fantasy races in face sets.

I know, right? I'd love to see those, and some humanoid aliens too (for sci-fi games)! This Kickstarter is a great beginning, but current funding only covers eight face-sets. It can get tough when there's so many under-represented groups! So grateful for our artists.
Maybe one day another KS will be possible; who knows?
Why does this art seem so familiar though? I swear that black lady picture on the kickstarter...I've seen that style before. Sae is the person doing my banner art, but I swear this was before then. It looks like this one lady's work. Her name was Elijah or something, sounded like Elisha. Or maybe I'm spelling it wrong. Or maybe I'm just having another old man moment because I'm pretty much running myself into the ground helping run a friends company and going to college. Whatever the case I totally love the idea and wish it had more backing.

That's my name! I've posted for this Kickstarter in a few online places (social media), but I never take credit for the artists' work. That portrait was done by Sae. Any time you see that portrait it should be for the KS campaign, and nothing else (that I'm aware of). Sae is the owner of that portrait, so if you're interested in it - contact her :)
Thank you for sharing your support, Tyranos!
