Of lately, I'm in process of writing a screenplay. What was the hardest thing and kind of dilemma whether to include or not and to figure out how to write it anyway (it's just writing, so it can sound like porn and some scripts, I read, sound so.
And yeah, what is this thread about? Share your favorite amongst bed scenes. They can be from films, series, video games. Here are some of mine. They are rather awkward.

-The Last Picture Show

-Kika

-Ride To Hell Retribution

-Fast Times at Ridgemont High

(there are more, but I probably can't post these from Blue is The Warmest Color or other European Flicks).

I can only imagine this thread going badly. Sorry.

Anyways, I pretty much don't have any. Any sex scene in a movie is de facto between two Humans, which is liable to make me fucking throw my guts up. (Funny story: My friend, his sister and me were watching some randy movie on TV which contained a Megan Fox strip tease. I had to leave the room because I was so sickened by a Human getting naked)

Nobody writes or shoots the kind of romance or sex scene that I'd enjoy watching. I guess if I had to pick any I would default to Mass Effect 2.

Yup, not only my pics but the whole thread is rather awk. I got your point of view. I have a friend who never ever had a relation with anyone in any Biogame. And he played all of the newer releases.
So I completely understand your point of view and if this gets outta hands, there are always moderators to close it.
Also this reminded me of Calunio's infamous game and it's brilliant soundtrack. So, one more extra question: What do you think about visualization of physical love in RM, Classic jRPG games?
I'm playing FFIV (PSP version) at the moment and there was that kissing scene. It was kinda awkward and out of place. I hadn't suspected these cute chibi characters to be capable of this, they are like children. The only thing which I took as positive was the graphical craft.

I think that I'm all for the representation of love and sexuality in games across the board, to be honest. However, in classic type JRPGS with sprite graphics I would recommend against depicting sexual activity- allude to it if you want, but don't actually show two people fucking. Why, exactly?

It plays into the limited animation capacity of sprites that size. There are plenty of things you can't realistically depict with sprites, even stuff as simple as punching often looks weird when you're using classic FF style sprites. Depicting sex would more than likely come off as comedic in nature, and ruin any attempt at creating a mood in the scene. Other displays of affection such as hugging or kissing animate fine however.

Now, in terms of 3D games anything goes in my book, as long as you're tasteful and professional about it. Mass Effect proved that you can definitely write and display good sex scenes or romances in RPGs.

I would like to see more realistic sex in games!

1. woman walks seductively toward bed
2. man begins to spoon
3. man loses his balance and falls off the bed
4. everybody bursts into tears laughing
Man... I have a sex scene in one of my games on-site. It's as bad as you might imagine. Pixels moving under a blanket.

I prefer the fade-to-black for sex scenes themselves, even in movies. Then again, I was traumatised at a young age by a certain scene in an SBS movie late at night... I kinda snuck out of bed to check the Christmas presents and my grandmother had fallen asleep in the lounge next to the fire, leaving the TV on.

Let's just say it was... well, it was what you'd expect from a Japanese movie with sex and ...a ... talking tongue... >.<;

I'll cop to having liked the sex scene between Buffy and Spike. Shit was pretty passionate. Then again, it's one of the few non-traumatising sex scenes I've seen on TV so... >.<;
(There was another SBS movie one time. It was... pretty... bad. Dead uncle, virgin niece who wanted to be a prostitute. :/ This is why I don't use TV anymore - just leaving a channel on after watching a movie can lead to walking in at very very terrible times. ;.; )

Ah, that said, I'm not averse to sex scenes in stuff just... don't think it's necessary in most things. Like games. I mean, unless it's pivitol to the plot of the game somehow why the fuck do you need to include it? (Yes, I am looking at you DA series. Oh, and ME series, too.)

Oh, and Cap_H - site has a strict no-pornography rule. Any videos with sex in them? Remove. No questions about it, even in this section. Discuss all you like but no videos. Use some sense. :/

Ok, I changed my initial post, so it doesn't include any videos (I'm not wholly sure what they classify as, but all my examples were classics, so you should see that movies either way).

I loved the implied sex scenes in SWTOR because they were just so campy and forced.

Mostly the same reason you might show two characters kissing or what have you. Its a way to progress the character arcs involved or to express the feelings of the characters. Its just an artistic choice really- and yes, I am exclusively talking about well done sex scenes, not "sex for sex", even though you may argue that its all sex for sex in the end.

In terms of Mass Effect, the sex scenes (although after ME1 they aren't exactly sex scenes so much as foreplay scenes) are meant to cap off player chosen sidequests, so I think its easier for them to get a pass even if they aren't integral to the plot of the game. The people going through all that dating sim rigamarole are interested in seeing romance scenes between their avatar and the character, because like me they more than likely feel a romantic attraction to those people. Perhaps that's not the best reason to include such things, but I definitely appreciate Bioware for letting players do that.

Nothing really comes to my mind. Almost every sex scene I've seen in film feels incredibly contrived and just... Awkward?

I'd personally like to see something a bit more funny, maybe like in Yes Man where Jim Carrey gets that blowjob from an old woman?

You're magical to me.

The subject of sex in games (or any media, really) is difficult, because while showing intimacy between two characters can really tell you a ton about their relationship, it's hard to show anything approaching sex without it coming off as gratuitous (I've made that mistake before, if we're being totally honest >.<;;) I find showing moments before and/or after things actually get naughty to be a good compromise, because you can show closeness without distancing the audience too much.

Yeah, like in The Immortals, or "calm your storm" in Clash of the Titans.

Yup, They are either awkward or about being awkward. Good sex scenes are rare and close to non-existent in games. The Foreplay from the first ME is an exception.

The scene I was writing is both about being awkward and awkward. It's just terrible, illogical and naive.
Probably doesn't help that society teaches us from a young age that sex is bad and to be avoided in conversation and not to want it (while at the same time shoving it down out throats every chance they get). No wonder we're all a little fucked up when it comes to writing sex scenes and find the exploration of such awkward.

...now I want to revisit that Romance Writing topic from waaaaaay back just so that people will be more comfortable writing such things.

No 'throbbing members' allowed.

Something a lot of people get wrong is trying to write sex in place of intimacy. That is, equating the two. Intimacy can include sex and sexual actions but it's not just that.

There's this one scene in Bimbo Bowlers From Buffalo that really gets m---

Don't write porn. That's my old mentor's advice. Porn is art without merit, and he used the term as a broad brush to paint across all media.
When it comes to Sex, however, he says it sells. Of course it does! Sex definitely sells. Why, take for instance the fabulously famous James Bond. He screws everything with tits and a pair of legs. But do we ever SEE him having sex? Well, maybe once we sort of do with Brosman and Hale Berry. Though it is very modest.
If you need sex in a story, make a reason. For Bond, it's usually to pry information out of a girl, or as a reward for a day's work.
There's never sex just for sex. Sex without a reason is Porn!

Best ways to handle sex are foreplay, or pillow talk. Very seldom will characters have a break through DURING sex.
The best example that I can think of, would be Vanilla Sky, where the story progressed because of sex. Or Oldboy, for, well, REASONS.
Typically though, you will see two people talk mid kiss, and fall beneath the sheets for a fade away.
The rest is usually a conversation over a cigarette afterwards.
The beauty of this is that both give you sex, and instill the idea that these two (or more!) Characters boned, without filling screen time with pornography.

And again, a conversation about quantum mechanics that will save the galaxy before bed is pretty weird unless your characters are Klingon. So, the sex itself should mean something.

Sex in a movie or a game usually feels like a half-baked attempt at porn, I think, or wish fulfillment. It's just there so everyone can be like "damn that's sexy" and "yay finally!" but it very rarely feels human. The context is often something like "our passion was so overwhelming and we just got around to admitting it so let's do it"... that sort of thing happens in real life, but in real life people usually just have sex, and then they talk about the dog or some idiot at work. Occasionally you'll hear an "ow" and "sorry!" and general laughing or giggling. I don't know, I think it'd be better if sex wasn't always the climax of the relationship arc, and we just used sex scenes to make the characters feel more human.

Gah, someone once told me the name of a yuri manga that's only scenes of the two main characters having sex, but from context, changes to the room, and little things you can infer a really deep story and figure out a lot about each character. I never read it and don't remember the name, though :/
Love and sex..blah I'm a virgin I wouldn't know the first thing about sex, but I had alot of disappointment in love itself. People today are so afraid of feelings at the first sign you show them. I lost count how many times I've been rejected/friendzoned.

Looking at stuff like that in video games, and movies just irritates me now.

(yes I'm bitter about it).
Eh, a sex scene is like any other scene: you can use it to characterize, progress the plot, intrigue, etc. Like anything else, just don't use it thoughtlessly. Sex scenes do hold an innate emphasis, though, so you need to be extra careful with them.

I disagree with this, basically because of "show don't tell." How people act during sex is going to be more impactful to the audience than the dialogue. Though, dialogue can be layered and interesting, too. I just want to say they're both important; it's all up to how the writer uses them.

I haven't seen a good sex scene in videogames yet, but if you want to see some good film sex scenes, there's a great one in Antichrist. Actually, there are a couple of great ones in Antichrist, both of which are pretty near the beginning--one is just beautifully shot, and the other shows some escapist behavior in order to deal with crippling depression that's pretty heart-wrenching to watch. Also, Nicholas Roeg films tend to have nuanced sex scenes. The two that come to mind are the one in Don't Look Now that uses some interesting editing to create two parallel scenes and the one in The Man Who Fell to Earth where it gets all freaky with the alien stuff. That movie kind of sucked, but that one scene was handling a very bizarre and interesting ground situation in a way that still felt loving and human. Very cool stuff.
