Altered? No, we didn't change the transitions.
What do you mean?

I don't think there was "remove random blocks (from a particular direction)" previously.
Do you mean "Random blocks from above" and "Random blocks from below"? In RPG Advocate's translation these were called "(Un)Wipe upwards" and "(Un)Wipe downwards", respectively.
Yup, they've always been there - just translated differently.
Sorry if this was asked before, but is there any substantial difference between Tsukuru and Maker? I used Tsukuru for the event and I didn't like it very much, it seemed too disorganized, is the official version better?
There are some changes. Check out the OP of the thread - there's a link of changes, I believe.

Chery, is there any way you could tell us some kind of manifesto or mission statement as to where you guys plan to take RPG Maker 2003 in the future? It's very interesting to me to think that this software could see constant improvements where in VX Ace those improvements were marginal at best.

It doesn't have to be "official", but I think a lot of people are eager to hear if you have some kind of long-term vision!
They probably won't be updating it too much guys. It's an old engine and they've already worked miracles with it as it is. Frankly, it's too costly for Enterbrain to sink money into making constant updates to it - especially since it's old and they're probably more focussed on making a new RM (this is the third year and they have a schedule of every 3 years, so...).

Thus, I sincerely doubt there'll be much more than version bug updates.
That said, the "bug updates" have been amazing. I just looked at the changelog.

Here's some of the highlights.

  • Colored event command highlighting.
  • The event commands “Show Picture”, “Move Picture”, “Show Animation”, “Flash Event”, “Set Move Route”, “Play BGM”, “Play SE”, “Key Input Processing” and “Conditional Branch” now show additional information in the event script list.
  • When event script lines are copied to the clipboard, they are now additionally stored in text format. This will allow event scripts to be copied to text editors, web forums, etc.
  • For more efficient use of Common Events in battle, event commands can now be copied between Map/Common Events and Battle Events, even though they would normally not be compatible (e.g. “Abort Battle” in a Common Event). A warning is shown in this case. Currently, it’s not possible to edit such “foreign” commands at their new location, they can only be deleted (or copied back).
  • Built-in fonts (I have a question though, I have custom fonts)
  • Increase of maximums

Oh. While people are working on this. For the conditions colors, it gives a stock color instead of working with the set involved with the System you are using. As in, if I change color 3 to mauve, it won't show mauve, it will show the color 3 which is white I think. I hound this out when haste looks orange on the menu but I set as tie-dye (I have no taste and proud of it). I dunno if this has already been changed on 2k3 but the original version has no link to the system colors.
...I obviously meant bug fixes of this version. Hence why I said "version bug fixes".
Oh. Well, yeah, I hope not. Though ATB is itself plenty buggy (I hope Turn-Based can come out, I'm so sick of having it decide turns without the party members having made any moves, when ideally 10 turns would be 6 monster turns and 4 party turns).

I'm probably still misunderstanding.
Just... people shouldn't hold their breaths for a constantly updated engine. There's only so much they're allowed to do with it - that Enterbrain is probably prepared to pay for to be done - so having all these expectations of fixing everything is silly. If something does get fixed, fine - great even! But it'd be silly to be upset if it doesn't. All they were going to do initially was provide a proper, legal translation. Any edits were, I'm sure, hard fought for and extras on top.

Basically I'm just saying not to expect more than a few tweaks to fix any problems that have arisen from the update.
Simply because the new scares. While the old is reassuring.
Ah okay. Yeah, though I'd hope if there was something important that was broken (X crashes when you load pictures), that would be fixed.
Well, yes, but if it would have crashed in the illegal version that's more than likely a 'this person is using the wrong thing' error than an engine error - like I said, three times now - if it is a version bug (that is, if the legal version has an issue that was caused by the translation and edits done to the engine during the localisation then they probably will) but if it's something that existed before Cherry and Nessy added to it then they probably won't.

It is an old engine, it will have some issues. If you using 24-bit images makes it crash, that's on you, not the engine and they very likely will not bother with that because it's part of the limitations of the engine and thus, human error.
Actually, we do aim to fix older bugs (which, by the way, RM2k3 has plenty of) and improve the engine a bit, since it not only targets existing RM2k3 users, but also new ones, and it would be a bit shitty to sell a bag of bugs as "new, official version". It's a shame we didn't have enough time to do these things before the initial release already.
I'm only saying. Sometimes I've made bugs through what I programmed. I've gone over my game numerous times and occasionally been like "Wtf? I played this before and it worked without a hitch." (The worst in this regard is battle, the slightest change and I have to worry if battle isn't broken for good. I one time had a version of the game where because of a glitch embedded within 3 common events, battles would crash as soon as I started them. I had no idea the cause of the bug and had to hunt it down by removing things and putting them back until I finally found the event, looked carefully and either fixed the problem or decided to do without) It was because the new updates had an unforeseen consequence.

I would assume Enterbrain isn't a bunch of a-holes (mebbe I assume too much but anyway) and would allow further bug testing and updates.
I just realized that the official version lacks the Sound Effect option for Switch Items for some reason. I know you can work around that (e.g. have the switch activate a common event with the sound effect in it), but it's strange that that is missing now.

I got Switch Skills and Switch Items mixed up. Never mind.
Possibly to make space for other stuff or simply for the fact that this was a silly feature. I mean, you are perfectly capable of adding your own sound effects, but this probably broke other simultaneous SE.

Also. Does the new 2k3 have the PicsInBattle feature? Both of my games involves pictures in battle. I'm still trying to work out how I'm gonna retain BetterAEP and my custom save files.
