[RMVX ACE] ARE THERE ANY GAMES WITHOUT THOSE HORRID DEFAULT SPRITES?

What the hell, Blindmind is arguing about RTP graphics with Magi, Craze, WIP, Karsuman and Feld? Did we all go back in time about six years?
I think we did.
I'll just say that as a former user of graphics rips...
...It was good times. I learned a lot, being able to focus on the creation of games without worrying about graphics. But I mostly graduated from it. I learned, and am still learning how to make my own graphics. For me, graphics rips mostly aren't viable anymore.
Considering my roots, I don't hold it against anyone for using rips. It's just a hobby for some people. and for others, they may not have the time and the drive to learn how to make their own graphics, or acquire other original graphics. In that case; whatever. I'm not going to be anyone's babysitter.
I do agree with Craze though that it's hard to beat the original interpretations of the source games rips come from in most cases. Unless you're some kind of mapping legend like faroz_flare. ...I miss that guy's maps. In other cases, people have played those games and have fond memories that override whatever interpretation the rips user has come up with.
Anyway
On the other hand, the VXA RTP is fugly as hell, and it's character style is crap, in my opinion. But for all the hate it gets, people do good work with it now and then. I personally think that the community needs to graduate from the RTP style and explore new frontiers, away from rips, but how many years has it been with VX and Ace combined? I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for a paradigm shift.
There's no way to change an entire community overnight. Just stick to your own ideals and lead by example. Think the RTP sucks? Use, make, or acquire your own non-rtp material. Want to use rips? That's on you.
Just make a good game please, thanks, goodbye.
Well I think you guys need to count to ten or something before continuing. Please cool it with the hostility and character sniping.
WIP: You can! It's not very sophisticated, but within the Ace installation folder there's a Generator folder where you can change/replace all of the assets.
As long as you get the size right, it should all work just fine.

There are some crazy f'd up combinations in the generator which can stir greater eldritch horrors than MaxMcGee's colored history of plagiarism. It would be peachy if some kind artist liberated the children using this tool by providing some better assets. It won't be me though. I have too many pixels on my platter as it is.
I saw BadLuck posting recently. Maybe somebody could forward this to him and he can get the ball moving on a Starlancer 6-2. The world has been waiting too long.

what if you turned them all into preteens!?

I sure hope that person comes along. Just in case you guys couldn't get a sense of how horrific the default looks, I just compiled some stuff made by clicking the auto-generate button:

Oh man! xD
But I mean, you know, they're generated faces. I don't think it's easy to create something good looking having randomly generated from just parts unless the generator is inflexible.

This was an odd choice for my first time looking at an RMN forum post in about eight years.
Why? This is EXACTLY the kind of conversations we had 8 years ago. You should feel right at home.
Next thing you know geodude will pop in here and make a snarky remark.
@Ratty: And yet, as with anything that is randomly generated, a little effort can get you places with it. I mean, have you seen some of the faces Skyrim can come up with if you let it? Or Fallout 3, for that matter? Hideous! And yet, given time and care you can come up with something that looks very good. Hitting the random button on any generator is going to come up with bad hits because it's putting together random bits with no correlation to each other. Hit random on Sims, see what monstrosities it creates.
This seems a good place toadvertiseshow off~
See anyone you recognise? Hello heroes! ^.^
Personally, I like the chibis and I don't hate the faces like some do.

@Liberty: Sorry but, those only look slightly better.
One of the biggest issues with the default face generator is that the graphics are in low resolution, so you get to see some ugly pixel artifacts that makes certain combinations look bad no matter what. Some of those faces even have inconsistency in line art. The people wearing those tiaras actually have outlines, while the tiaras themselves don't. The lineart of hair in general clashes with the lineart of the face/lower jaw. Those jaws all use bold, dark outlines, yet almost all hair uses low contrast, brighter outlines, creating a really awkward clash.
Even aside from those finer details, what the hell is with those female eye sets that look spaced out and derpy? Not to mention the general lack of expressions you could pull off with the default generator makes everyone look lifeless.
At least with the auto-generators of skyrim and the sims, you can still pull off some decent combinations. My demonstration was to show how very often Ace's generator DOESN't do that.

That is why you can add more. A lot more. Duh.
I've seen a fair few decent ones by randomising. You're just picking out the worst ones you could find to make your point. That said, I have added more good images to the mix and taken out the bullshit ones (some of them are like, why the hell do you even exist?!). With good bases you can get some pretty neat generation going on.
Also, it's your opinion that they look bad. Some people rather like them and find them charming.

This is sort of an irrelevant statement that just serves to nullify the discussion. Everything is subjective. But that doesn't exempt things from criticism and possibly improvement.
I thought it was pretty clear I didn't think they were charming by making this topic.

Those people are wrong.
Edit: Subjectively speaking.
Subjectively speaking we are all wrong. ;p See, I can do that too.
It could definitely do with a lot more resources, though, and is capable of doing not looking at the player. You just have to customise the graphics to how you want. They're basically just layers that can be overlaid with each other. If you want side-view faces it can do that. It's actually really good for if you want to make a set of basic stuff in a complete other style and then come up with your own randomised NPCs/etc based on that.
The defaults aren't horribad but they do come with some... really weird and ugly design choices. You have to wonder if the ones doing the graphics for it just didn't care about what they put in there or were pulling a prank of some kind, like "Oh, this is funny. People will laugh."
author=Feldschlacht IVNever said they couldn't be improved apon. I thought that was pretty self-explanatory with the whole rest of the post before that part where I talked about removing the ugly pieces and inputting a bunch of better ones. The actual generator itself is pretty good if you have the right set-up. It's basic, yes, but some people like basic as opposed to getting into the nitty gritty details.author=LibertyThis is sort of an irrelevant statement that just serves to nullify the discussion. I'm too old and jaded to find humor in my rpgmakers programs. I just want it to make games!!
