Ah, teenage rage!
Wait till your out of the house, I would suggest.
Tell me about it ;-;
I already..tried...but culture stuff *ORZ*
They're the one paying and they won't let me find a job so =_=
Ness: They're probably trying to ensure you'll be able to make a living, which is relevant to my first post in this thread. However, it's really unfortunate that they're being so dickheaded as to threaten cutting you off financially if you even try to make it on your own.
I'd say just do whatever minimum you need to do to keep their cash flow coming, and take the initiative and forge your own path in college. It's not like they're monitoring your thoughts, right?

Maybe it is a cultural thing, but from my perspective, that's pretty fucked up.
Not necessarily. Parents only want to "best" for their children. Especially immigrant parents from poorer countries who could barely earn enough money to put a meal on the kitchen table. In their eyes, the most important thing is financial prosperity; things such as art and literature meant nothing to them because they were too busy trying to survive. When they immigrant to more wealthy and opportunistic countries, the only thing that is on their mind is to secure a life that will be absolutely nothing like the last one.
While it sucks to be the child of such parents, in reality, its not truly "fucked up." Just a very ... different method of child rearing that has its pluses and minuses. (Don't worry Ness, when I get mad enough, I'd love to say, "ITS ALL MINUSES!")

Trust me, I understand that more than many people do, I can totally dig that. I just don't like the "DO WHAT WE WANT YOU TO DO OR WE'LL CUT YOU OFF FINANCIALLY" vibe that Nessiah was implicating. I can understand it sure, but yeah, it may not be fucked up, no, but it's restricting, and it does suck. Everyone's gotta leave the nest and do their own thing sometime.
Well, in certain parts of the world the family unit is the most important thing. for better or for worse!
Well that what makes it even more...messed up. I could see your parents being dissapointed even angry with you, but cutting of financially support is absurb. Parents are here to give wisdom and direction, but most importantly they are here to support. (If what the child is doing is not morally wrong)
Anyway, I know this is a like change of mood and all out of the blue, but I need to know. What is a good college for computer engineering? I was thinking virginia tech, butits good to have variety.

I suggesting you buy the Princeton Review of Colleges, but you can always do a google.
In this case:
Though you should also look into more than just rankings, of course.

Of course the family unit is the most important thing for my family too. I guess the difference with me is that my parents view it like this. From their view, they can do it one of two ways
A. Heavily influence my upbringing with their views and beliefs and teach me accordingly, hoping that I'll follow them as I grow older.
B. Impose their beliefs and views on me, and hope it doesn't backfire when I enviably grow older and begin to see that I can do what I want without having to listen to my parents.
And of course a lot of people use B to rebel against their parents and all that, but a lot of people use B to get out of a perceived 'grip' against their parents, do their own thing, and still be successful.

This too, although I'm sure there's more to it than what Ness told us, so I'm not about to seriously criticize her parents themselves.
My best advice is that it is important to have as much sex and drink as much beer as you can. College is for delaying the start of your adult life; it is NOT, as Harmonic and Mog claim, a place of learning.
Even though this is in jest, I can appreciate the intent of this, haha.
It's true, while college is a place of learning, if you go through the whole experience as a boring, sexless, partyless, friendless person, I'd seriously say you wasted at least half of your time.
Meh, I don't think party and have sex are really a large part of it, but I suppose that is my personal take of it. Making new friends, getting jobs/connections (intership), thinking outside of the box (research) and learning how to take care of yourself as an adult (cleaning, cooking, etc.), however, is pretty important.

What I bolded is extremely important and I'm glad you brought it up. Very much correct. But what I meant by partying and having sex, isn't the "OH SHIT I GOT SO DRUNK LAST NIGHT AND I HAD SEX LIKE 20 TIMES" sort of thing (and I did word it wrong, so I apologize), but I do think that having a healthy (and existent) social and sex life is a large part of actually being an adult.
Yeah, when i was in college i was drinking beer and having sex all the time. And after all this i passed my courses and became a Restaurant Manager.
God bless America!
God bless America!
I'm pretty sure that doesn't just happen in America.

Got that? If you read all that, you have the power of Craze.
