IS IT WORTH UPGRADING TO WINDOWS 10?

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Windows 8 wasn't the eighth Windows anyways, was it?
It was the tenth version of Windows NT, the twenty-third version of Windows overall, and its version number was Windows NT 6.2.
Still not as bad as Square Enix numbering. I'm still fully expecting Windows 10 to be followed by Windows X-2, them to retroactively rename Windows 3.1 to Windows 6, and a mobile OS to get released named Windows 358/2 Days.

I have Windows 98.
It's from the future.
Yeah, I was forced to get rid of mine. It was superior machine to my Vista powered craptop. And the soundcard was a blast.
I don't know why they bother supporting Vistas. They are piece of crap, worse than Xps in every possible aspect.
Edit: LockeZ what about Windows 98: The After Years?
I run Windows 3.1 on an emulator from time to time to play my hipster 16bit games.
Why can't modern windows run 16 bit architecture Microsoft? WHAT are you so afraid of???

So I just finished a dev conference and had attended a session on windows 10 development and wow it looks intuitive and clean. Microsoft has stepped up its game.
All right, I'll ask it.
Did you hear if holo lens gives you have a visualization of Cortana, and more importantly, how soon until I can mod it to look like Hatsune Miku instead?

Well, I, for one, am looking forward to Windows 10. It looks promising and looks tons better than Windows 8.

Where's Windows 9?
Supposedly, there might be a bug like:
if(version.StartsWith("Windows 9"))
{ /* 95 and 98 */
} else {The other theory was that for Japanese clients, the number 9 was unlucky (sounds like "pain"). If they scrap desktop, then it's time to be worried. I've noticed two things about the Apps system (besides the fact that it's cheap and shameless pandering to Apple users, who can freaking get lost anyway):
- I've never actually gotten any work done on Apps. They are at best shortcuts to programs, which I am perfectly capable of making myself on desktop, and at worst, self-contained programs that have zero compatibility with any files (paying money for a Microsoft Office "app" is a joke, since the whole interface splits into another screen instead of seemless use with the desktop). Typically, my apps fall into two categories: automatically made shortcuts when I installed a program, and Virtual shop apps which are mainly handy features which I actually never use (not the camera, not the music/radio, not even the anime channel one)
- Not only is the app system worthless to people who grew up doing actual work on desktop and use their phone if they want apps (since these seem better suited for a phone anyway, with its built-in compass, phone, and GPS) but the Apps system is actually a disservice to people doing actual work. I found out as I was uploading my two games in October, that VirtualStore was storing copies of my game without my knowledge. It did this frequently, whenever a save failed due to UAC permissions (which since my nanny computer didn't know about this program, automatically happened). In short, it treated the program as an App, which it wasn't and stored memory not in the file it was, but in a screwy place, making it look like I had the newest copy but the game ldb didn't agree. I had to rebuild FOUR MONTHS of work on my games.
If Windows 10 works from desktop, and Apps are an add-on rather than the core (and does away with UAC, in favor of a better system) sign me up. It looks okay from what I've seen. But more headaches, and screwing with us, yea, I'll wait until they get the bugs fixed.

Pffft, you ever seen SteinsGate? The whole thing about having to go back in time to find a certain computer model that was before computers had a certain chip or something.
Windows 10 basically looks like desktop, with a mixed Start taskbar.

Better. Not taking over my entire screen or splitting in half when I drag and drop.

I actually find this to be very believable.
My brother just upgraded from Windows 7 to 10, and so far it's working fine. It boots faster, and the new web browser that replaces Internet Explorer rivals Chrome in terms of speed and appearance. I'm probably going to switch from 8.1 to 10 today or tomorrow and see how it works on my laptop compared to my brother's super computer.
When will the free upgrade be available for the pirated version of Windows 7 to the pirated version of Windows 10?
I still use windows xp in my laptop and windows vista in my desktop.
I am very afraid of switching to 7 or 10 and no longer being able to play rpg maker games.

Upgrading from Vista to 7 is risk-free, at least.
Otherwise you have the right idea. Why switch from something that you know works perfectly to something new that may or may not work, and serves exactly the same purpose? There's basically no reason to upgrade from Windows XP 64-bit to anything newer, since they're all the same thing but slower.
Backwards_Cowboy, the only reason his computer boots faster now is because there's less software on it now. Reinstalling your existing version of Windows would get you the same speed boost plus more. Windows 10 is slower than Windows 8, which is slower than Windows 7, which is slower than Windows XP, which is slower than Windows 2000, which is slower than Windows 98, which is slower than Windows 95, which is slower than Windows 3.1, which is slower than DOS.

Depends how much you like Windows 8.
If i ever need a gaming laptop i'm getting it as ten because fuck win8.

DOS 6.22 ought to be enough for anybody!
For me, Windows 8 is basically Windows 7 with a better file copy interface and faster boot time, since I installed Classic Shell and did some tweaking to get rid of Charms and Hot Corners (maybe I am just old, but I find those features irredeemably terrible on a desktop). I don't think I'll be making the move to 10 any time soon, at any rate.
By the way, I heard that installing Windows 10 turns your box into a peer-to-peer sharing node for Windows patches if you don't disable that during setup, so, read up on how to do that before you upgrade.

Win10 seems to turn your PC into an all you can eat for buffet for windows snoops if you don't immediately turn off all the 'share this info with Windows via cloud/wifi/feedback/MS account etc' options that are by default turned on.
Actually the bit that has me shaking my head is the line in the 12,000 word long EULA which starts with 'Finally, we will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders)' So not only will they read your stuff they'll share it and keep a copy.
