SUPER PROJECT IDEA

OK, so take a second and think about this; RMN has some pretty cool & original amature game designers. Because of this we get some pretty awesome games, but what if, we had a super project. What if we had a project that was designed by some of the best designers on RMN, the game could be great right? Well i think its possiable, and heres how i think we could do it. Go into the IRC or here in the forums and cook up a storyline, after that everyone would have to think of what designer to use. then after that we would have sign ups for each person, one for the mapmaker, one for music, one NPC's... ECT... then just every week or when ever the last person finishs working on their part, they send the project to the next person. It would start by laying down all the maps, then add the people, others adding switchs, and so on. This of course is just an idea the poped in my head today that i thougth of sharing with everyone here. so please let me know what you think.
Like a chain game? It's feasible.
The only way chaingames work is chapter by chapter. The way that most RPG making goes is scene by scene, not module by module, so no one is going to be really enthusiastic about tinkering with a project that they don't have any narrative control over. If there was to be a chaingame at RMN I recommend a chapter by chapter approach with a predetermined set of resources.

That sounds like a nice idea, though I do agree with what Blitzen said. Otherwise it would be too chaotic.
Great idea! Love it.

Didn't GW have something kinda similar to this, like Alex Adventures or something in which everyone pitched in a part. I never played it or anything so I don't know how that worked.

Blitzen's idea is good. I also don't think we should have just good designers, everyone should be allowed a chance, yet there has to be some sort of standard (as in 15 X 20 room with a barrel in the middle is not a map).

can't make a bad game if you don't finish any games

If someone were to invest in some cheap web cams, it could be made in a teleconference kind of way.
If anyone wants to seriously do this would people like me who are new to the forums be counted out or could I get a whack at it too?

You could just invite everyone working on the project to one conversation on MSN. I mean, everybody in the world has MSN right?
Ok, well the idea i had wasnt for it to be like a chain-game(i dont know exactly what it is) but the idea is we have certain people do certain stuff. we would start by voting or signing up for who wants to be apart of this, then vote for who does what, then take the whole project from one step to the next, like having one person add in every map of the game, then have someone else add in items, and just start from the base up having a different person specialising in different areas.

This is a better idea in theory. Coordinating a project the way your describing would be almost impossible, especially since the process of making a game is non-linear. For example, what if the map guy needed a switch, but the switch guy didn't get his turn yet? And how would the switch guy know what switches to set up without the map guy's part already complete? It simply wouldn't work.

I'm sure team projects can be successful, but the team has to be able to work together well, and I don't think a team of "the best of RMN" would work out (even if they really are the best!).

So, yeah, a chain game would be a much better approach. I don't know exactly everything about them either, but from what I can tell it's basically a game where one person makes a chapter and passes the entire project onto another person who also makes a chapter and repeats the process until the game is done. I guess there are guidelines on what can and can't be done with each continuation, but I don't know all the details.
The topic is awesome ;D but one problem... when do this idea start to be functional and not only a topic (well there are some details missing, like all the people who gonna work on this put agree and some other thing... but then how it will be all this)
There are inevitably going to problems with chain games, but it's just a fact of life really. Someone makes a particularly shitty chapter, someone vanishes off the face of the internet - just make sure to lay down good ground rules.
How 'bout we make a list right now. This is gonna be made in rpg maker 2003, right?
Anyway, I'm kinda new to this stuff but I have some experience in rpg maker 2003 so can I please be added to the list?
And I agree with Blitzen and all you guys. We need chapters. Can we make the game be ABS? Anyway, this is about the list to who joins.
So whoever wants to join, say your name and we could all think about what the games gonna be of and plan it.
I highly discourage trying an ABS in a chain game. Keep it simple.

And if someone really wants to make this, start an official topic with rules and all that jazz.

I do. I'm just not that good in forums. Believe me. All my topics get locked and stuff ;D So if someone else could and I'd join in? :D
Ok, Well since i came up with the idea, could i be like the projects leader or something like that?

Also, halibabica, Of course there are going to be problems such as that, but if we want to even try to take this on we would have to have good comunication anyways, so it might go back a fourth between two people for a while or other maps could be added later so "legendary" weaponds and stuff like that.

If this does happen I would like to say that im really against the idea of a chain game, it wasnt the idea i had in mind and i think with the right prep work and additude I believe we could do this.
So are you going to make a new topic in the forum, pantsman?
Yeah, i think i am, im gonna make a sign up page for the project, it will look something like the Release and Play Something's, And it will be in the game release and disscusion page. It will only be a sign up type of forum, anything like what the game should be or when we work would be after RS! IV, unless people we be ok with multitasking.

also I dont know if I will need permission from an admin or something like that, but if anyone has a problem with it could you please PM me. Thanks.
It'll only work if it's a comedy.

Secondly, there has to be a director for the project.

Think of it this way; Everyone on forums has amazingly low attention spans. It has to be casual to the point where it is just a "fun-little-thing-to-do".

I could hook you guys up with some 20mg Aderall XR for $5 a pop. You won't be able to stop working on anything.
Well RPG Maker 2000/2003 counts me out - I have XP.
