NOMURA WANTS TO REMAKE FF5/FF6

I used up all my fanboy rage too soon, and now I don't have any left when I need it

I thought the FF7 remake was the final battle. I used up all my MP. I didn't expect it to transform!

I would rather they remade FF13 with SNES graphics, honestly.

I'm down with a FF5 remake, as long as they don't totally blow it. Then again, the last new console I personally bought was a DS, so I wouldn't be able to play it anyway.

God dammit Nomura remake 9 so I can have my HD waifu for fucks sake

But man, FFV is up there with 7 and 9 as my favourite(s) in the entire series. I would fucking LOVE a good, solid HD version. Shit would be really cool.

The original FF6 graphics are already in the top 1% of all video games, I don't know why they'd want to redo it. That's like trying to sell Van Gogh's Starry Night: A remake by Tetsuya Nomura.

...No, the original FF7's graphics are utterly horrifying. Squaresoft's animators had no idea how to really use 3D properly - no one did yet. It was a brand new type of clay and they were all clueless as to how to shape a game out of it. Some of the environments are hand-drawn and those look fine, but everything that's in 3D is terrible. It was good for its time but that's not the same thing as being good.

FF6 meanwhile has some really great graphics, assuming you can wrap your head around the idea that there's nothing about 2D or 3D that makes one better than the other. FF6's pixel art is fantastic. Well, at least outside of battles. The battles definitely need some help. It's not Chrono Trigger or Rudras, but it's in the top tier of 2D pixel art games. It wasn't just good for its time, it's still good. FF6 looks better than almost any game on the Xbox One and PS4, for example. It's certainly the best-looking game in the Final Fantasy series.

are ff6's graphics really top-tier or have we just been conditioned to think that because they've been the subject of literally everyone's rips or edits

At least ProjectSetsuna is on the way, FG. Granted, it's not a FF, but it is a jRPG by Squeenie so it should be good. Maybe. We can hope.




FF 5/6 ... I wouldn't mind seeing them remade using the style of the newer FF3/4/etc remakes. You know, so it keeps the same 'this is from this gen' style. That said, seeing it in serious 3D... I'm not so sure about that. It'd be neat to see the various areas remade but honestly, I prefer they keep it non-3D. Not sure why I feel that way, exactly, when I'm so excited for the FF7 remake. Probably because it would feel wrong for them not to be pixelled, where-as FF7 was originally meant to be 3D anyway?

(I don't know that FF9 needs an update. I would like to see it released on PC though.)
