@Sated The bad news is that more than 50 percent of Americans vote Republican. The good news is that most of them aren't terrible people. The sad news is that there are no good Republicans in office...I take that back: there's a Republican representative in Washington state who supports gay marriage and equal rights for women and minorities, and I think there's a senator somewhere, but those might be the only two.

Anyway...

Hooray! for justice! Hooray for freedom! Hooray! America isn't a total trainwreck, yet! We can still do something that keeps liberty and freedom alive...well...you know what I mean.
Sounds like good news~ I'm glad they get to finally get what they wanted for so long~

However, I got to say this; I'm not comfortable with how some of the gay-rights advocates are so militant to try to silence any opinions to the contrary. I personally am a advocate for people to keep things like kissing at home, be it men or women, as I was raised a traditional southerner with old dutch customs, but when I advocated this before, instantly many of the people who were celebrating the news in America, automatically start shouting me to silence and delete my opinions.

It's disheartening that the homeland has some people that while celebrating a new found liberty, are so uncivil that even discussions of manners seems to be taboo.

I guess it all depends on the context. If people are all talking about the news and celebrating, then presenting your opinion on keeping intimacy inside at that moment could have been seen as raining on their parade. I don't think people trying to get your opinions deleted is cool, but if the subject at hand is "YESSSS A STEP FORWARD IN AMERICA" then telling them that they shouldn't be kissing in public could be seen as insulting. Again, I have no idea how you presented your opinion, but that could be a reason.
I am happy that this makes many others happy. This has not happened in my country yet but I think it will only be a matter of time before it does.

I have some relies that are gay and when most find out that they are well....
I think that it does not really matter whether you are able to get married or not,
it is only a piece of paper and if you love someone well...
Which is a little contradicting as I will be married 25 years next month!

Each to there own I say and now America has done this a lot of other country's will probably follow!
@Unity: Ah, you might have a point. I've never been very, erm, tact with my words. Always bad timing you see.

Oh well, it does not really matter that much; At least it is good news that America has gotten this out of it's system, so hopefully we can focus on different issues.

I *sort of* agree with you when it comes to obnoxious PDA, but is "militant" really a fitting word when many of the advocates are simply fighting for equal treatment? (Which they're deservedly starting to receive!)

Straight couples kiss one-another, hug, or hold hands every single day of our lives, and no one really thinks anything of it. It's practically taken for granted. The same can't always be said for gay couples outside of an urban setting. One person's definition of "manners" shouldn't necessarily be held as the societal standard.

But yeah agreed, now the politicians can stop beating a dead horse and move forward on larger issues. xD

GAY MARRIAGE

GAY MARRIAGE OUTTA NOWHERE
Homosexuals have finally secured the right to marry...

MARRIAGE

(creaking door, woman's scream, dracula laugh, caterwauling cat)

Wish I knew more happy or trouble-free marriages in my life. As more gays marry, we might start seeing a body of evidence on how long-term behavior and satisfaction differs (or not) between same-sex and opposed-sex couples.

I wonder how soon the USA military will have until they can't discharge gay people any more? I mean the current policy is don't ask, don't tell, right?

And just remember that Canada was first.

This is simply wonderful news, and I offer my heartfelt congratulations to everyone who put their heart and soul into seeing this day dawn. Time to pop the champagne, America.

That twitter feed is seriously toxic though.

Kory, DADT was abolished back in 2011. You can't discharge people from the service legally due to sexuality anymore.

Don't ask, don't tell was shot down years ago.

I've done my best to avoid anything ridiculously hateful today. I've seen enough of it to know what to expect, so :P I'd rather just be happy about it all.

Although, I did see a few people threaten to move to Canada... where marriage equality has existed for a decade.

Actually Slash, the first same sex marriage did happen in Ontario, but it was because it was ruled to have taken place retroactively after a ruling in 2003, for the first non-challenged and legally accepted SSM you need to look to the Netherlands, where it happened at midnight on April 1, 2001.

There's going to be a lot more of them now!!

Actually, looking at many of linked researches I know from AoM, marriage is working better than ever.

And I know happy married couples as well. Can go both ways, certainly.

I know you guys are gonna hate me for this, but I'm a Christian and I believe homosexuality is a sin, so I'm against the institutionalization and normalization of it.
