Well, we now know who the next school is eager to show the country its stupidity. Tah-dah! Here they are!

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

My favorite part is actually before that. "If your child is dropped off before 7:40, there will be no adult supervision and we will call the authorities." Like, wait, back up a step. Who's going to call, exactly?

They really thought that through and these people are teaching our kid's, wow!

I'm sure they mean that when adult supervision arrives, they'll call the authorities if they see a kid sitting outside, but that was a rather stupid way to put it.

I haven't heard a lot about Oregon, but so far, none of it has been good.

I'm at least glad the administration caught this and rescinded it.

Unfortunately, teaching, supervising, or even having kids is something that a lot of people are woefully unequipped for, so I'm not really surprised at some dumb school staff sending out something like that unsanctioned.

However, and I do mean however, on the other hand, when I was in school, there were a lot of people who neglected to pick up their kids or straight up forgot about them for hours at a time, and I don't mean an innocent "shit, forgot to stop by the school to pick up little Billy", I mean more along the likes of "fuck, I have kids?". A surprising amount of people don't give a shit about their kids.

Portland is pretty rad, though. A lot of weirdos down there, though.

We will fine the parents $ for any extra time teachers need to spend supervising your children as over time pay for the teachers. This would have been better.

Teachers don't get paid extra money to stay at the school after hours.

I'm actually okay with after school stuff like that because the amount of kids who have been left for HOURS after school ends... it's ridiculous. I've heard some tales from parents who would drive by the school later on and see kids playing and concerned teachers - who are supposed to be working and finishing up grading in order to get home to their own lives - watching over in case something happens to the kids.

Hell, one parent told me about this particular woman who tried to sue the school for her daughter breaking her leg after school because the 'teachers should have been supervising'. We're talking an hour after the school had closed. Apparently that mother was one of those parents who figured 'hey, free babysitters!!!' - of which there are more than a few.

Double hell, I've heard of kids dropped off at 6am in the morning because the parents have to go to work and are too cheap/don't have the money to hire a babysitter. So they drop of their kids before anyone arrives at the school, thinking they'll be safe. At 6am.

I don't blame the schools for this - they don't want to be responsible for before/after hours care to kids who should have been picked up. Teachers are paid to do a job between certain hours - they aren't obligated to watch your kids when they're off the clock. School staff have their own jobs to attend to. They don't have the time to watch your kids and none of them should be held accountable if you're a shitty parent who leaves your kids after school.

Granted, 10-20 minutes is fine, and maybe one-off 30 minutes, but longer than that and you deserve the police to be called. These are your fucking children for Gods' sake. Take care of them or arrange for someone to do so. Don't just leave them at a school thinking that the teachers and staff there - who are not getting paid overtime - will just 'take care of 'em'.

You deserve to have the children removed and be fined if you do that.

It's hard to blame the parents in some cases either though. When you're a single parent who works 12 hours a day and takes public transportation, and your kids aren't old enough to get to school and back on their own, you don't have any good options. I mean it still is the parents' fault for having kids while in that kind of financial situation, but it's a few years too late for any good solutions.

Quite frankly if the kids get taken permanently by child services in cases like that, it's probably for the best. If you can't afford to take care of your kids then get rid of them. They're basically parentless already, so just let a foster home take over for you while they're still too young to remember. I basically see this as a service by the school - if you aren't able to take care of your kids, we'll get the legal process started for you to hand them off to someone who can.

Alternately if the kids are like second grade or older why the hell are they not just taking the bus home?

Yeah, this is to mitigate neglect.

But you see, the thing is, in my day, and I'm only 32, we had a thing called a School Bus. It stopped at you know, Bus Stops, and picked students up so that parents could get Get On With Their Lives, and not have to delay their schedule for the school. Lazy ppl.

In my day, while I'm not in favor of the whole traditional household deal, my parents both worked, but at the very least we didn't have a work culture that lied to ppl and told ppl there was a recession. There is an artificial recession because you are hiring from overseas, shipping money jobs elsewhere, so not only is there less money in country, but in order to get and retain jobs, workers have to practically agree to overtime or they pick someone else (btw, in New Jersey, you know who they pick (delayed joke, read below)? People from Ukraine). Fuck you, my parents worked and then went home to see their family, and usually didn't have an empty house, I don't need your overtime.

In Ukraine, as I read their culture prep thing, they were talking about how under communism, business effectively imploded, and now family is a value there. They are completely corrupt, and do a great deal of things I hate (patriarchy, overeating and drunk culture, and abuse culture, to say nothing of the fact that their city women basically try to dress to pick up foreign men so they can get out of the dump int order to go to America where they can be taken care of (read above)), but the one thing they did right? Valuing family over work.

Stop choosing overtime over your kids! The kids don't need XBoxes, they don't need the mewest computer. They can use that when you've gone to bed. And stop the perfectionism, be a normal parent not a helicopter mom. Okay, the kid does not need ten hobbies to prepare them for college. Nor do they need to study until blue in the face. Teach them how to have friends, how to let themselves in so they aren't waiting in the cold, and how to care for themselves. Don't neglect, don't smother, just be the parent. No housewife no househusband, the house doesn't need to be swept more than once a week. Yes seriously, I've had an apartment with guys who were useless. It can only get so dirty. Do housework once a week and if hubby complains, you show him the broom, ditto for househusbands and their wives. The house needs cleaning but your kids need your love more.

Ah that's nothing.

In the ol Auusieland ya'ave to fight a gater ten meters long to get yer school certificate...

that was in the maritime times, no you literally get given it and realize a much bigger foe awaits now, high schoollll...

Which I actually didn't make it through and hey I'm still out there trying to make something of myself, with unemployment so high in Australia I'm sure Centrelink will be more than happy to give me support for raising a media / gam mak empire, I can't imagine it would realistically attract many people since you can only fill so many jobs, but it might start a trend, one that ultimately could solve a crises that has been brought to us purely by a polluting industry oh god Australian politics are dumb i can say no more, but if you want more feel free to check out this guys videos.

Dude. Do I have stories to tell you. Do you want to start with how weird Portland is? Or how about how all the rednecks that are too extreme for red states move out into the countryside. Oregon literally has the most extreme republicans and democrats. We have liberals so liberal that they would fight for door sex, don't get me started on the animal sex rally. And republicans so uptight that they refuse service to non christian whites in some places. Swegle has always been a shit school though so this doesn't surprise me. They also happen to produce the largest number of delinquents somehow. I guess we now know why.

EDIT: In case of misunderstanding the "I guess we know why" part it's because the parents are too fucking lazy to take care of their own kids.
Whenever I hear about how ridiculously hostile democrats and republicans are to one another, I begin to wonder when there'll be a massive, violent conflict and/or the seperation of the US into two states.

The worst part is that I've been around the US. I've seen almost every city/town in the country and I've been to every state. Oregon is one the the better states if you can believe it. This is also the reason for why I'm so doom and gloom half the time. I know just how bad it really is.
It seems reasonable to me to call the authorities if the parents are being obviously neglectful. However, the letter is not reasonable. As far as anyone reading the letter knows, the school will call the authorities even if you're only a few minutes late. All the power to the school staff if they want to put the foot down, but they have to take the time to discuss what exactly they will put into the letter and how they put it. A simple threat to call authorities if the parents are late with no additional explanations or clarifications is not okay.
