Let us speak of the many games of the video nature that we are playing (or even look forward to playing).

I recently picked up Picross DS, which is totally great. School starts next week for me, and Picross will be an excellent way to kill time during the one hour(ish) breaks that I have Tuesdays and Thursdays.
If you don't know, it's sort of like sudoku mixed with crossword puzzles (the name itself comes from picture crossword, I've been told). You have to reveal a picture by chipping away blocks on a grid. There are numbers for each vertical and horizontal line that show how many blocks must be hit; so a 2 and a 1 mean that there is a group of two consecutive blocks followed by a single block that is separated by at least one space.

Anyone who likes solving puzzles and owns a DS should absolutely pick it up, especially since it's only $20!
And I think I should mention now that Sei's Push! (http://www.rpgmaker.net/games/11/) is also a great, but less portable and stylus-free, version of picross.

As 360 owners may or may not know, the BioShock demo came out today. Having just finished playing through for the first time, here are my thoughts:
The graphics are goddamn spectacular, especially in the beginning, when you have time to admire them and aren't constantly paranoid about enemies being around the next corner.
The game definitely succeeds in establishing atmosphere. It's dark without being Doom 3, the music is creepy (in two different ways), and hearing the enemy splicers talking to themselves before they spot you can be slightly disturbing.

Even though it was just a demo, it did a good job of displaying the various possibilities that exist. There was a particularly intense moment towards the end of the demo where I set off an alarm (which I could have avoided by electrocuting the security camera beforehand). While the alarm was blaring, I had to switch between blasting electricity at a puddle full of splicers, staying out of view of the camera (so the alarm didn't reset), and shooting down security droids with my revolver.

If you own a 360 and don't mind playing first person shooters, you seriously need to try out this game.
Right now I'm looking forward to getting Legend of Zelda; Phantom Hourglass and either Heroes of Mana or FFXII Reverent Wings.

As for games I'm currently playing right now. My time is currently being divided between Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Master Quest) which I've started three days ago and I'm currently between the Dodongo's Cavern and Lord Jabu Jabu's Belly (I'm namely playing this since I haven't touched the game since I got it back in '03 and I wish to alleviate myself of the shame of using a Strategy Guide during my original play through of the game back in '98-'99), Dragon Quest IV which I started about two weeks ago and I'm currently wading through the Final Cave (I've had this one sitting in a corner since last summer and I figured it would be a good time to try it out), Breath of Fire III which I started about a month ago and I'm heading for the Volcano for the first time (After staring at me for several months I decided to plug this in again and get it out of the way), Valkyrie Profile which I started about six weeks ago and I'm currently wrapping up the first chapter (Unfortunately I don't think I'll have the time to finish this during the summer I might not even get it done till the next summer), and Ogre Battle 64 which I'll admit I started earlier in the year and if I recall correctly I just started the third chapter (I'm still on break from playing this game but I should be getting back to this soon I hope)

I'm also thinking about breaking out Super Robot Wars: Original Generations 2 soon if I need some handheld action. And also playing thru Adventure of Lolo after I finish up DQ4.
I'm playing through the Phantom Hourglass right now, and the controls are still a little strange for me to get used to, but attacking enemies is definitely something that's very fun and easy. I'm on the wide open sea sailing away, and it's again, about as much fun as it was in the Wind Waker. In the japanese version, all kanji can be touched with the stylus to give furigana which is great or kids and non-native speakers.

I'm looking forward to buying Mario Party 8 and a few more controllers. Should be fun.
I finally started playing Odin Sphere again, after a lengthy hiatus.
I still have several other games I haven't finished, but I've decided to tackle Odin Sphere first because it's the most recent (and likely the shortest) game in my queue. I have BioShock coming up next week. Then there's Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, Halo 3, Mass Effect, and probably Ace Combat 6 and Call of Duty 4 to follow up on that.
So, it's time to start hacking away seriously at my queue!

I made it to the epilogue of Gwendolyn's chapter. So far, the story in Odin Sphere is nothing spectacular, but it absolutely feels like a sort of fairytale. In that regard, I guess it's perfect.

The visuals, however, are undeniably amazing. As someone who likes to dabble in sprite art, it completely floors me when I see what can be done with real talent, experience, and time. It'd be nice if I was even a fourth as good...

Maybe it's just me, but Odin Sphere is hard. Damn hard, at times. You can't just wail away at enemies and expect to win. You definitely have to dodge attacks as well, especially in boss fights. I suppose I didn't have the right mindset when I started playing this game, because I expected to be able to mostly just keep mashing the attack button. After jumping in this time, though, I'm doing a little bit better, I guess.

My biggest problem with Odin Sphere, though, is that I feel like I'm doing too much balancing. You can only hold so many items, so you constantly have to deal with the inventory limit. Should you drop these seeds, because they require a relatively large amount of Phozons, or those ones because their fruit doesn't recover nearly enough HP?
Then there's the question of when you should plant seeds and let the Phozons go to those, or when you should just absorb them yourself. Recovering HP feels like a hassle too, because you can choose between the healing potions you make through alchemy, which recover a fairly large amount but don't give you any experience for your HP, or you can choose one of many different healing items that DO give you experience for your HP, but may not heal you by very much.

There are several other items that must be balanced as well, but I don't currently have the time to go into them.
I like Odin Sphere, but damn do I dislike having to weigh every single decision that involves my inventory.
A couple of weeks ago i bought Final Fantasy 12 for the playstation 2 and it is one of the most challenging games i have ever played. I am currently half way through the game and i can barely keep up with the monsters. If anyone has any tips on beating the game please reply.

Other games i have completed recently include:

Legend of Zelda- Twilight Princess.
Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix.
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.
AFL 2007.

Well, I'd hardly say that FFXII is one of the hardest games out there, but it's definitely much more challenging than your average Final Fantasy game. In order to smooth out the difficulty, I can really only offer one suggestion:

You know how big and open the areas are? You should explore them. Try to fill out the maps and try out all exits from a particular map. You'll fight a ton of monsters that way, and you'll probably be at about the right level all the time. You shouldn't need to stop to grind as long as you explore plenty.

Also, make sure that you have every major type of skill specialized in. It really makes a big difference to have a wizard who can capitalize on enemy weaknesses or a character that casts a lot of buffs.
Final Fantasy 12 hints and pointers, eh?
Well, here's a couple of things I did, and I haven't had too many problems:

- Get all the Quickenings (3) for each character. This will increase their max MP by three times.

- Get all the HP licenses for each character. More HP is always better.

- Use Gambits. If you aren't already, automate everyone (including the characters you primarily control) through Gambits. The only time you should ever directly be controlling combat is when you're fighting a boss or a particularly tough crowd of enemies.

- Use all of your characters. Divide them into two warriors, two mages, and two thieves. Level them up equally, so when one warrior reaches level 40, switch him out and let the other one level up to 40 as well.
The mage character should be focused almost solely on healing. Everyone, however, should have a healing gambit as their top priority. The warrior and thief should require lower HP before they get involved. If your first priority is survival, you shouldn't ever have to touch the controller against regular enemies.

- KEEP YOUR GEAR UPDATED. Your equipment (particularly armor) has a large effect on your party's ability to survive. If you skipped one set of equipment, you'll definitely notice the effects by the time you purchase the next one.

- Buy Bubble Belts as soon as you have access to them. I think you get access to Golden Amulets before Bubble Belts. If you still don't have access to Bubble Belts, get Golden Amulets, then replace them with Bubble Belts.

That's all I can think of at the moment.
Hey. Thanks for all the help you gave me. I have just finally beaten the boss of the Raithran Tomb by using quickenings. I am thinking now of just training my party up and equipping them with the best weapons i can find. It may be boring but at least i will be able to defeat the monsters and bosses in future places. Thanks again.
Played more Odin Sphere today. I finished Valkyrie and moved onto The Pooka Prince. I'm at the second chapter.
The first chapter's boss was a little weird. Without going into spoiler territory, she wasn't nearly as strong as she should have been. It makes complete sense from a gameplay perspective, but it's a little deflating when Gwendolyn's story is taken into consideration.

The gripes I previously had about balancing things no longer seem particularly serious. Maybe it's because the game itself is more balanced at this point or maybe it's because I have a bit more perspective on what to expect from it now. Either way, I'm enjoying the game more. I'm very interested to see where the story is going right now, because it's currently exploring a character and plot thread that wasn't even hinted at during Gwendolyn's book.

I haven't had any problems with the game's difficulty since my last post.

That said, I'll admit to setting the difficulty on Easy (I actually did it fairly soon after picking the game up again, so my last Odin Sphere rant was also mostly on Easy). I normally like to play games on Normal (and if I'm serious about the game, Hard), but I just don't have the time to do it this time. I want to finish this game soon!
It's pretty awesome that you have to sound the RUN FOR YOUR FUCKING LIVES horn every once and a while in FFXII when you come across unknown or powerful enemies. That's usually very poorly done, but imo, FFXII has a good balance of where things are powerful, and gives you plenty of options to avoid them.

Hell, first area in the game where you are hunting the flower cactoid, there's the giant T-rex. They definitely designed that aspect well.
Still playing Odin Sphere. I wrapped up The Pooka Prince and moved onto Fairy Land. I've made it to the third chapter. The more I play Odin Sphere, the more I appreciate how perfect the story is as a fairy tale. This game is waiting for a Disney adaptation.

I liked Cornelius's story and certainly didn't expect a few of the twists and reveals in it. His epilogue was damn hard, though. There is no way the average person could reasonably be expected to beat it on their first try. There is a certain enemy that essentially can't be defeated by normal attacks. I guessed (correctly, after consulting GameFAQs) one of the ways to beat them, but I didn't have the resources to create the correct potion, so I had to exit the stage and replay an earlier area. I don't mind that there is a trick to beating them, but the resources should have been made available in that stage.
That was the only stage in which I had skipped some of the areas.
That said, I still enjoyed his book.

Playing as Mercedes has presented some unique challenges and benefits. Although Cornelius certainly played differently from Gwendolyn, they both at least had melee weapons. At first, I didn't like Mercedes (from a gameplay perspective), but I'm starting to like the ability to float out of certain enemies' range and charging a deadly homing shot. I didn't find Gwendolyn's special attack particularly useful, and although I had fun with Cornelius's, I'm not sure it was all that useful either, but Mercedes's has proven invaluable so far.

Mercedes licks her fingers after eating, which is indescribably cute.

It was a bit of a shock to see Oswald during one of the intermissions. By the time Gwendolyn's chapter finished, I had already forgotten he was one of Ringford's soldiers.

I'm making good progress, if I do say so myself! Hopefully I'll be able to finish the game by this time next week.

I played a little bit of Picross DS today, but I've definitely slowed down a lot from when I first bought it. The puzzles are getting even harder now, and it's becoming less fun as they seemingly start to require more luck. I wish there was an overlay in Normal Mode, because that's a feature I really like in Free Mode. My classes start tomorrow, and Picross DS will be one of the things I rely on to kill time during my nearly one and a half hour breaks on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I'll likely pick Pokemon Diamond back up again as well, since I stopped at the sixth badge.

BioShock's coming out tomorrow, but I don't plan on buying it until the next time I deposit my money, which should be next weekend. Damn, though, do I look forward to that game.
Odin Sphere is magnificent. I absolutely love how they handled the story.

I agree that Cornelius' final level was unreasonably hard, though. The boss fight was unreasonably difficult with all the lag, and the slime monsters SIMPLY CAN'T be killed easily. What's unfair is this is the first time you encounter them, but EVERY OTHER CHARACTER has a practical special attack to dispatch them.

Right now I am playing Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door for the first time, and Trace Memory for the DS. I'm still trying to catch up on Gamecube games I missed out on last generation and my DS is still fresh.

I'd REALLY like to get my hands on Phoenix Wright, Elite Beat Agents, or Fatal Frame at the moment.
I'm currently playing Mercenaries on PS2 again.

Oh and FF12 had a great battlesystem but as you play through it you will note that there is a lack in character development and storyline activity. It is kind of sad comming from square. Oh and don't get your hopes up for an awesome ending because you will not get one. T_T

I'm just waiting for Assassin's Creed!
Yeah so in the last week I managed to finish up both Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Master Quest and Dragon Quest IV along with a quick run through Eggerland, and I was having a rather productive week until I looked at my PSX memory card. As I mentioned earlier I had planned to finish Breath of Fire III and Valkryie Profile however I had learned that I recently lost half of the files saved on that particular card. I also found that I have two copies of almost every one of my surviving files. Fortunately almost all of the important files currently saved on my memory card survived, but unfortunately I did lose a few in progress files that I would've wanted to keep like my file on Final Fantasy IX. I also had the misfortune of losing my second file of Dragon Quest VII in the mishap as well. So now I'm currently changing my plans a bit.

First off I'm probably not getting any of the new games I had mentioned before for awhile since Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is too far off to be considered a Near Future release since Final Fantasy XII and Heroes of Mana are so similar I'm only planning on getting one, as for Heroes of Mana itself $40 is to steep of a price to pay and there are better and/or cheaper alternatives. As for Master/Dragon Quests and Eggerland I believe I covered my reasons for taking them off my list. And with my only usable PSX memory card in it's currently unstable state that rules out BoF III and VP. This leaves me with Super Robot Wars: Original Generation 2 as the game currently on my list, but I've also decided to go with Xenogears (I'm nearly finished with it anyway), Sudoken III, and maybe either DQ II or DQ III. I was also considering a second playthru of Fire Emblem IX as well but I doubt I'll get through it before summers end.

Yeah so in the last week I managed to finish up blah blah blah blah.

Good God man, that's a lot of games! I haven't finished that many in the last several years!
DQ III > DQ II imho. (screw using full words in posts)
Squeezed a little bit more Odin Sphere in tonight. I've just started Chapter 5 of Fairy Land. I have to say, the difficulty in Odin Sphere is a little wonky. Sometimes, the game is pretty average in terms of difficulty, sometimes it's a gigantic pain in the ass.

The boss battle of Chapter 4 falls squarely in the latter category. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with Titanians? They need to stop taking those damn steroids. Maybe I just suck, but it is @*#%ing hard to fight those Axe Knights as Mercedes. I couldn't dodge their jumps at all. The boss itself wouldn't have been difficult if it weren't for the fact that you have to deal with two stupid Axe Knights as well. That said, I did appreciate that the boss had hardly any HP.

Also, I totally expected the plot twist regarding the frog's identity. At first. As I played through more of Mercedes's book, I started feeling like it couldn't possibly have been who I thought it was, because that would have meant that character was absent for much more time than I thought possible.
Then I looked at the timeline again and realized it actually fit. I'm sure my remaining questions regarding Mr. Froggy will be answered in the fifth book.
I have never played Odin Sphere but it must be very popular as many of the posts here are talking about it.
I am hearing fantastic things about Bio Shock. Unfortunately, I won't be playing that until I either upgrade my PC or I get ahold of a 360.

Though I am far more likely to upgrade my PC for the sake of Fallout 3.
