RMN PLAYS: FINAL FANTASY TACTICS RANDOMIZER HACK
Posts
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

There was an attempt by Trihan a couple months ago to do an RMN Plays: Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. The idea was fun, but it moved really slowly because it was going turn by turn.
So this'll work a little differently. You guys can give lots of suggestions at once, for multiple characters and multiple actions, and even just sort of general strategies. Anything goes. If you tell me to do it, I'll try to do it (unless it's something just absolutely monumentally stupid that I'm worried it will put the game in an unwinnable state). This also means you can give pseudo-commands like "Attack that chemist on the rooftop with whoever gets a turn next" or "Have everyone group up in a phalanx formation" or "Use Ramza's strongest skill" instead of having to specify exact tiles to move onto. However, if you want to specify exact tiles to move onto, go for it.
Actions submitted will be executed in the priority they're submitted, but not necessarily the order they're submitted, since I can't control what order the characters get their turns in.
This is open to anyone, you don't have to sign up or anything, feel free to just show up out of the blue with a brand new rpgmaker.net account and yell "DRINK A POTION"
Also, this is important: I'm not playing a normal copy of Final Fantasy Tactics. I'm using a hack called "Rumble Chaos Crashdown" that randomly changes many aspects of the game. Jobs have different skills, stats, and equipment selection. The job tree is randomized, so jobs will be unlocked in a random order. Spells may have be stronger or weaker than normal. The special jobs of unique characters will act differently. Enemy monsters will be changed randomly. And so forth. One of the options in this hack was "Enable special surprises," and I turned that option on, so I'm not even sure what all will happen.
Without further ado, let's begin the game:

...I did that in Photoshop, the hack doesn't actually change the title screen.
Our game begins in Orbonne Monastery, with Princess Ovelia praying for the souls of her country.

...We are experiencing technical difficulties.
When was the last time I used ePSXe, anyway? I bet this version is close to a decade old. I think I need to adjust some things in the video settings.
Everything else is fine, just this one text box looks goofy, so I'll worry about it later.

We're introduced to Agrias, the holy knight and Princess Ovelia's loyal bodyguard, as well as Gafgarion, the dark knight and mercenary hired to protect her. Our main character, LockeZ, nee Ramza, has the blue shirt.

Suddenly a female knight bursts into the room, looking suspiciously like a male ninja. Or maybe "Female Knight" is just his name. Already I like this hack.

We learn that the main character is also a mercenary, working with Gafgarion.

Duke Goltana, of the house of the Black Lion, has sent kidnappers to abduct the princess. His kidnappers include three mimes, which is a little weird. One of them apparently has a crush on Agrias.

The virtues of our holy knight clash with the pragmatism of our dark knight. Though, I don't really think Goltana wants us to kill them all. I think he probably wants them to kill us.

...I guess Gafgarion won the argument, apparently.

The battle begins with... wait, why am I controlling Gafgarion? This is a tutorial fight, all of these characters are supposed to act automatically except the main character!
Let's see what skills he knows...

...He knows a Holy Knight skill. It's listed under Dark Sword, but it's totally Agrias's attack. It can damage enemies in a 3x3 cross shaped area a couple tiles away, and sometimes inflict Stop.
He also has Charge +1 and Charge +3, which are just slower, more powerful normal attacks.
The basic effects of these skills are the same as normal, but they're sometimes stronger or weaker than they should be. Possibly other differences.

Apparently none of my characters are flagged as guests, so you guys can control all of them. Neat. Agrias has almost exactly the same skills as Gafgarion, just different Charge skills. She starts with way too much archer AP for her own good and already knows Charge +5.

This random wizard has holy knight skills also. And a sword, shield and helmet.

WTF, she doesn't even HAVE the holy knight job! I can't see what holy knight skills she knows until it's her turn. She does know Fire and Fire2.

Rad is a squire like normal, instead of being transformed into some weird job. The squire skills he knows are Dash and... Poison? Squires aren't supposed to learn Poison, though it's useless enough that it fits the job perfectly.
He somehow doesn't have the wizard job unlocked, despite it being his secondary command, so I can't see what black magic he knows. Mysteries abound.

Ramza LockeZ has Mighty Sword. This is getting ridiculous. I am looking forward to using Shellbust stab and Hellcry Punch on these stupid mimes. He also knows his basic shitty default squire skills: Dash, Throw Stone and Wish.

I also have a dragoon behind Gafgarion, named Alicia, whom you can't see because of the camera angle. She can Jump and use more of those stupid archer Charge skills. She... also has Faith status, somehow, even though no one's taken a turn yet. I guess dragoons have auto-faith now? Or maybe a piece of equipment is doing that? Faith status means that she does a ton of damage with magic but is also extremely vulnerable to magic. Since she can't actually use magic, I'm not thrilled about that.
Now awaiting commands from the RMN user base. Anyone who wants me to do anything: post your thing to do.

Spend your first round of turns performing the actions with the longest casting times. Aim wisely.

Gafgarion runs as far forward as he can. Nothing is in range to use Charge+3 on. Fortunately he can still slice and dice from long range with his holy-elemental Dark Sword skill.

God, that feels good. One enemy down.

The remaining enemy squire axes Gafgarion in the back of the head for a pitiful 9 damage.

The mimes, inspired by their teammate to create performance art, mimic his attack and swing at invisible, imaginary foes. This is what happens when you send an army of mimes, Goltana.

My squire, Rad, only has one ability with a casting time. That ability is Poison. He can just barely get far enough forward to target the tile between the two mimes, hopefully hitting both of them.

Fortunately, the casting time on Poison is so short that it happens before the next person's turn. Unfortuantely, both of these mimes have Reflect status for some reason, and the spell fizzles. What the hell?

Agrias runs up behind the enemy squire and initiates Charge+5. This could take a while.

Alicia, my lancer, apparently doesn't even KNOW any archer skills.

The casting time for Jump is probably longer than most of them anyway, though. She runs up to the tile right next to the enemy squire, so he's boxed in on all four sides, and jumps into the air. She'll land on him eventually.

The wizard Lavian has all five Holy Sword skills. Also, for some reason, wizards can apparently equip swords now, and she's wielding one, so she can actually use the Holy Sword skills.
You really don't want me to use these? Really?

Fire2 has a 0% success rate because the mime is still affected by reflect. Because of the spell's casting time, the mime is going to get a turn before this spell goes off. It will almost certainly move right next to me, making me hit myself with it.
I could be using Holy Explosion with a wizard right now. You're an asshole.

The mimes get their turns. Two of them punch my party members and the third one uses Throw Stone. They don't mimic each-other, for some reason.

Fire2 goes off, causing Lavian to immolate herself.

It's now LockeZ's turn, finally. He must be really slow, he was the last character to act. In addition to his shitty squire skills (Dash, Throw Stone, Wish) he also has all four Divine Knight skills, which deal physical damage from long range and destroy an enemy's equipment, and have awesome names.
All of his skills are instant-cast, and everyone else took their turn already, so I'll wait for input before choosing his action.

This is better than I could ever have hoped.
Last-hit all living enemies with Lavian. I don't care what skills they are.
Give one of the mimes a Hellcry Punch to the face!
(EDIT: I hope they have actual equipment to destroy; I didn't think about that :P)
This hack looks amazing. I may have to give it a play sometime myself XD

Make sure Gafgarion punches one of the mimes without a skill (if possible, otherwise use a defensive action or pass) as those scrubs in his army are too dumb for reflect.
EDIT: Yes, Gafgarion can punch people with swords.

Nivlacart, I started doing this before you posted, sorry.
If someone suggests an action that I don't get a chance to use, either because they submit it too late or because it's somehow incompatible, I'll use it in the next post instead.
I'm really enjoying how ridiculously elaborate some of these suggestions are that you guys are giving me. This post will include some actions that I picked on my own as filler turns.
Ramza uses Hellcry Punch!

It's not very effective...

Turns out Hellcry Punch is the one that destroys weapons, and ALL OF THESE MIMES ARE UNARMED. Also, one of them is completely naked. Wait, weren't they hitting the air with axes earlier? Apparently if the enemy squire attacks with an axe, the mimes can create invisible pantomime axes to copy the attack.

Gafgarion punches a dude with the blade of his sword, and then takes one step forward, as instructed, being that he's also the highest-HP person on the team.
Rad gets another turn and chops that enemy squire for a little damage. Nothing impressive.

The enemy squire then attacks Ramza, who counter-tackles him to death. Holy shit, that counter tackle did more damage than most of my other characters' real attacks. Also, that enemy squire was pathetic - the mimes have three times as much HP as it. I'm a little disappointed since that means Lavian can't finish him off.

The mimes mimic the squire's attack again, swinging imaginary axes. One of them actually connects with one of my characters, which is slightly astonishing. I refuse to believe the enemy AI did that on purpose.

Agrias and Alicia finally finish their attacks with excessively long charge times, attacking the empty tile where the dead squire used to be standing. They took so long that it's now time for their next turns already.

Agrias tries to get one of these stupid mimes down to low enough HP that Lavian can finish it off. She doesn't even get close - these things have crazy HP for some reason - but she does inflict stop on it.

Rad also gets ANOTHER turn. This is his third turn. He's really fast, and he's also just standing still. If you don't move during your turn, you get your next turn faster. Too bad he's so weak that it doesn't matter. This attack only would've done 12 damage if it had connected. Gafgarion can hit for five times that much. Why is this kid even on my team? Everybody else is some kind of mystical knight with holy sword and divine sword and dark sword, and he's over here throwing stones.
Also, Reflect status wears off of all three mimes. Wait, what? Didn't they have auto-reflect somehow? Why would that wear off? I'm getting more and more confused.

Gafgarion and Lavian team up to annihilate a mime. Gaffy goes in with Stasis Sword, and Lavian finishes it off with a Lightning Stab.
Mimes Slaughtered: 1

Only one enemy is still capable of acting. Wait, what's this? Oh my God, it killed Rad!
...Realizing that it probably should have prioritized a different target, it flees as far from the battle as possible.
There's also a second mime still alive, obscured by the camera angle, but paralyzed by Stasis Sword. Each stupid mime will probably take two more hits to kill.
If someone suggests an action that I don't get a chance to use, either because they submit it too late or because it's somehow incompatible, I'll use it in the next post instead.

Path over Rad's corpse while moving whenever possible. He's terrible.
Everyone except Ramza pursue the fleeing mime
Ramza to head to the frozen mime and perform Blastar Punch
Ramza to head to the frozen mime and perform Blastar Punch
Perform Holy Explosion on the nearest character ally or enemy!

Make everyone only be allowed to move in a conga line, "frog-leaping" from the back to the front.

I'm not actually sure these two instructions are compatible. I mean, I'll try, but I'm prioritizing the congo line over the corpse-pathing, since it was submitted first.

Everyone except Ramza pursue the fleeing mime
Ramza to head to the frozen mime and perform Blastar Punch
The Mighty Sword abilities are cool, but they only work if the enemy is wearing a piece of equipment in the relevant slot. Otherwise, this happens.

RamzaZ performs an awesome animation for 0 damage.

The party spents the next few turns getting in a congo line, and the frozen mime returns to the flow of time. Sadly, Lavian the Holyblack Knightmage Swordwizard is punched to death by that very same mime before she can join the dance routine. That's a shame. I was really looking forward to using a Holy Explosion that hits the entire congo line, murdering and confusing my whole party and causing a game over.

THE CONGO LINE PATHING OVER RAD'S CORPSE IS COMPLETE
WE DID IT RMN

Alicia the lancer is ganked in a mime pincer attack. I'm slightly relieved they don't just keep mimicking each-other punching her forever.

...Uh oh.
There's a CONGO DILEMMA!
My characters have very different speed ratings, and also get their next turn faster if they don't attack. As a result, the person who gets a turn is pretty much guaranteed not to be the person at the end of the congo. It's Agrias's turn now, but she's in the middle of the line! What to do?

While I'm thinking about the answer, let's use a Stasis Sword on that stupid mime that Mirak wanted everyone but Ramza to kill... and also on Alicia. Stasis Sword's range is pretty bad and I can't use it without also hitting a party member, and Alicia brought a wooden stick for a weapon, so she deserves whatever fate befalls her.

The congo line is divided in twain as Agrias moves to the fore. Has this world no beauty, truth or glory within it? Must every righteous task be resigned to inevitable failure?
Such is fate.

Mimes Slaughtered: 2
Gafgarion, being a dark knight devoid of honor, nukes his comrade Ramza in the face in order to kill that stupid mime. Of course, Agrias, who is a holy knight, just did the exact same thing. But the difference is... uh. Hmm. I'm sure there's a difference guys. It's totally not the same thing when she does it.
author=Rad
Oh hell no! I am but a corpse lol! Revive that stone throwing punk!
author=LightningLord2
If someone can do that, heal Gafgarion. Don't make him change his strategy.
Poor Rad, you are dead. No one has a revival ability. Ramza, being a squire, does have a ridiculous shitty healing ability though. That ability is Wish.

The problem with Wish is that it doesn't cost MP.

It costs HP. Also, Gafgarion didn't need healing, the only health he was missing was because he levelled up mid-battle. And now Ramza is on the verge of death.
Be careful what you wish for, HUR HUR HUR HUR HUR

THE CONGO LINE IS RESTORED

Agrias moves to the front of the congo line, which once again puts her just far enough away from the last remaining enemy that she can't hit it without also hitting Alicia. She unleashes her Stasis Sword, damaging the unusually hardy mime but killing her own beloved teammate.
Agrias code name is Sorry. She is always sorry. She brutally murders her friends and than says sorry and mostly she doesnt even do that.
Fortunately, she at least gains a job level out of it. I don't actually think this will carry over to Chapter 2 when she rejoins, though. I think it rerolls her AP. I could be wrong, I guess. Also, literally anything could happen because of this crazy randomizer.
At this point there are just WAY too many corpses to form anything remotely resembling a congo line. You can walk over them, but you can't move to a tile that has a corpse on it. Operation: Congo Line was as much of a success as anyone could have reasonably hoped, but all great things must end.
Gafgarion's turn is next. I await RMN's commands.
Don't perform any action that doesn't hit at least two units; friend or foe.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Gafgarion lays the smackdown. The final mime is slain. Ramza's life is sacrificed as well. Gafgarion doesn't particularly give a shit.
Mimes Slaughtered: 3

As the battle ends, we hear
A handsome knight in gold and red armor punches the princess's lights out and escapes on... on a... um.

Well, that's not right.

Ramza recognizes the kidnapper as an old friend, thought to be dead. He watches speechless as Delita rides off into the sunset on the back of a ghost.
The screen fades to black, and the stage ends.

We rewind time by one year, to witness the origins of Delita, the man who would be known as the hero who saved Ivalice -- wait, what? That's not the main character? Shouldn't the hero be the guy you're playing as?

Too late to complain, we're in full backstory mode now.

...Erm, what chapter were we in up until now?

LockeZ and Delita are revealed to be buds at this juncture. They're hanging out with some other military cadets at a training academy.

The commander busts in, telling us that a rebel group called the Death Corps is causing a ruckus, and that there aren't enough knights to deal with them, so we cadets have been called to action.
Every time he changes poses, he swaps between being a dragoon and a knight. I guess the randomizer turned him into a dragoon, but there's no dragoon pose for looking to the side or pointing your arm forward. It's a funny effect. Several of the cadets transform between chemists and dragoons mid-scene as well.
We're asked to defend the city from some thieves who may or may not be Death Corps members, but we're going to kill them anyway just to be safe. After we're done, we're supposed to head to Igros Castle to rendesvous with the rest of the knights.

The first battle of Chapter 1!
We have seven party members available. The main character, LockeZ, cannot be removed from the party. We can add up to four other characters alongside him. Delita will be there with us also as a guest character (in theory, but anything could happen because randomizer).
Relevant info:
- Lancers have more HP because they're wearing better armor.
- Lancers have WAY better attack power.
- Squires are about 40% faster.
- Characters can switch jobs after this battle.
- Bravery is the best stat in the game for physical characters.
- Faith is good for magical characters and bad for physical characters.
- The lancer in the previous battle had a permanent status effect, making her always be treated like she had 100 faith. It's possible that every lancer will have that effect. I can't really tell yet.
Who should we bring?
Use all the Lancers. We're not THAT cruel.
