IS KAIZO THE NEW TRENDY WORD THESE DAYS?

Just been noticing that word lately.

>>
Never seen it used before. What's it mean?
Apparently anything extremely difficult in games.
"Kaizo" literally means "modified", as it appeared on the first game on it's kind. The game was a Super Mario World ROM hack, showing in a video titled (translated) "making my friend play my Super Mario World hack" (or so), which is where "Kaizo Mario" came from (or Asshole Mario, as it has been dubbed).

Next to it, there's also a Pokémon Blue Kaizo and an Emerald one.

I'll never change. "Me" is better than your opinion, dummy!

Back in my day it was Kaibosh... or something, and it meant something different.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

N...no? It was the name of a Super Mario World hack about eight years ago. The trend has long, long since passed.
Locke, that's just the kind of kaizo attitude I'd expect from a kaizo guy like yourself.

Kaizo.

This might clear some things up for who never heard the word. The only time I've heard it recently is with the Mario Maker that Nintendo's releasing next month though.

Judging by some of the videos I am seeing of it, kaizo-style mario levels appear to be the norm, unfortunately.

Also, I just heard from Red Nova that there isn't a desert-theme for levels! A travesty!

I wanna keep the roguelikelike trend going. Roguelikelike Mario!

(Back when we all had TI-89 calculators, we used to make Kaizo mario-esque levels and trade them between our calcs all the time, it was awesome)

Here, have some more Kaizo while we're at it;

It feels like there's so much missing from Mario Maker it's really hard to get excited for it. It feels like a Nintendo branded SMBX where it has a fair bit of stuff but what didn't make it is sorely missed and making something cool and out of the box becomes a headache at best and otherwise impossible.

It is frustrating combing through the brouhaha about "OMG MAEK MAIRO LEVLS!!" to find out exactly what is and isn't in the game/engine.

Like, for example, can I make a game with it? Like, a package of levels (with or without a world map or whatever)?

E:
"The extra items found in Super Mario Bros. 3 (Frog Suit, Tanooki Suit, Hammer Suit, P-Wing) and New Super Mario Bros. U (Super Acorn, P-Acorn, Ice Flower, Mini Mushroom, Penguin Suit) are not available in the game. "

As far as I can tell, no. When you play other user's levels it sounds like it just grabs levels at random to play (plus some filters or so but ultimately you can't compile your own Mario game from start to finish like SMBX). I haven't seen a definitive No but the total lack of any sort of Yes makes me think that you can't.

In the http://www.mariowiki.com/Super_Mario_Maker

"Players can even create up to 10 worlds, which are set up like in Super Mario Bros., with four levels per world."

But there is no cited source for this.
Bletch.

e: To be clear, that makes it sounds like you can create an individual world but not an actual game made up of up to ten worlds which I'm "Bletch."-ing over.

Where is Isrieri when you need him? He can explain this whole better, but a true Kaizo game actually isn't solely about making levels impossibly difficult.

In the parts I'm from, "romhacky" is the new trendy word these days. Which is basically what everyone means when they say something's kaizo: A super difficult Mario ROM-hack or level that deliberately tries to infuriate the player. But no one actually says "this RPG boss is completely kaizo" because that's some baka baka desu ne levels of misappropriated grammar and language. But whatever, the word is already misappropriated from the original Japanese so its moot anyway.

But...like...that's totally not what kaizo levels are about.

author=Isrieri, on another forum
The thing about kaizo levels is that they are not about being difficult. Everyone always thinks its about difficulty. Wrong. Its in the way they are difficult. Its loving cruelty. Like a practical joke between two good friends. They have a particular brand of sadism to them that isn't just inflicting pain out of self-satisfaction. It's a two-way system: A good kaizo level not only provides pleasure for the sadist, but for the masochist as well.

There is a difference between a mario level being a kaizo level and just being a hard, bullshit level.

How can I make a proper World 2 if there's no desert theeeeeme?!?!!

The lack of that, slopes, and some other things is pretty mind-boggling, but at least the UI looks really easy and convenient.
