IMAGESHACK - MORE IMAGESCHTICK, AMRITE? (STOP USING IMAGESHACK TO HOST IMAGES)
Posts
So recently we've come across a lot of adverts in members' avatars, and even on gameprofiles for "Win a free iTunes giftcard if you install RainApp" or somesuch.
The common theme? The image is being hosted on ImageShack.
My guess is that ImageShack isbeing a fuckface replacing "old" images with advertising behind the scenes. (Which is probably allowed in their terms of service that no one ever reads). But it is a really shitty and shady practice, and the result is, here on RMN, we have these unsightly adverts clogging of things that used to be legitimate images.
So I am going to do two things:
1. Ask that all users stops using ImageShack to host images for things like avatars and gameprofile bling.*
2. Purge all existing avatars and gameprofile logo images that refer back to ImageShack.**
*given their shitty practice of replacing your image with an advert, this is something you'd probably want to do anyway.
**I am not going to look at any of the images. I am going to be doing this via the database with an UPDATE command. Nuke all the imageshack!
I apologize if this will affect you. Blame ImageShack.
E:
Everyone has a locker with at least 10mb in it (more if you have makerscore!). It is handy to use for things like gameprofile logos and avatars.

well, it makes sense to host images on RMN for images you use on RMN. honestly!

Photobucket sucks too because they changed something that broke compatibility with my ancient browser: Opera 12. Jerks!
*shakes fist at ImageShack. *
I was going to write an insulting parody of the B-52s Love Shack to diss ImageShack, but then I realize that I have a game jam to work on XD

Here's an example:

Oh yeah, Photobucket is turd, too. I love seeing nothing but "EXCEED BANDWIDTH LIMIT" avatars!
E:
instead of blanking them, I should change them all to GRS's avatar

As far as I could tell, imageShack not only charges you for uploading, but also to look at images uploaded there. The images I see are always the "Click and Discover ImageShack" pic, though.
All image hosting websites go to shit eventually though, i haven't seen one that hasn't with the passage of time. When i started going to internet forums i used imageshack because there was no "make an account or we'll burn your family" bullshit like photobucket, and then when imageshack started deleting stuff arbitrarily i moved to tinypic until they did something that made the website load so slowly for me that i didn't bother.
For the present i use imgur.

The solution here is to use that locker space, bros.
That, and the site itself is a laggy mess that pops up ads in your face 24/7, or maybe it's just my Chrome browser.

Yeah, just use lockerspace. What? Need more lockerspace? Contribute to the site!

^ Easiest way to get makerscore, too!

Makerscore is directly tied to lockerspace, right? Contribute to the site boost your makerscore, get more lockerspace, contribute more to the site! Everyone wins!
Except ImageShack, but that's an acceptable loss.

I'll contribute again when I run out of locker space. 138 MB to go!
I wonder if I'd have enough room if I counted all the stuff I deleted from my locker too.

I remember when ImageShack used to be awesome. Stopped using it ages ago when they started to require you to make an account and log in and made it super inconvenient if you just wanted to quickly upload an image.
Years ago, imageshack changed some pictures of my desktop, with porn images.
And now it's fallen so low, to publicize the apple.

That's why you should just use imgur. Yes indeed, fuckfaces, why do people even use them anyway
I currently have just over a GB of free lockerspace.
All of my contributions to RMN were just a long con to have my own personal file sharing service.

People are still using imageshack? What is the driving force behind that?

These are all free image hosts that aren't garbage and exist on the first page of google results. No seriously, how does imageshack get any traffic at all in 2015? Boggling...
