There should be achievements for:
Having a certain number of completed games!
Also, I was thinking of an achievement for making 3 different completed games with 3 different engines
(most people stick with just one engine, so some incentive!)

author=SolitayreRemember though that I was going to adjust scores for games too, and give out bonuses per review received, regardless of score.
Be careful, Liberty. When I'm finished with Nessiah I'm coming for you next!
I'm getting close! I'd be even closer if kentona had ever implemented those achievements for certain numbers of reviews, completed games, articles like he said he wanted to do!
Hmm, how would that have worked I wonder? Can you explain?
Something that occurred to me when I won the Second Saturday Score without even realizing it was that in theory, someone could have the highest increase in MS even if they haven't visited the site in months, if someone reviews a bunch of their games.

The general idea was to insulate people a bit from fluctuations in points awarded, by adding a flat "bonus" amount of makerscore per review submitted per game. This would also reward games that garner multiple reviews, thus a 4-star game with 5 reviews would be worth more makerscore than a 4-star game with only 1 review. (also also, the "base" points of completed games would be worth more, and points awarded for the average review score would be proportionally less).
We discussed this nearly 2 years ago. It is still on my TODO list.

should make it so the bad games with 10 reviews are worth more than 5* games just to add back a little of the old drama
Fuuuuck. I've been thinking they were working that way this whole time. Guess I didn't realise that that was still in the cards. WELP! XD
Do people really care that much about MS? I mean other than this thread and our monthly, 'I moved up the rankings' 'my MS is bigger than your MS' "I'm coming for your place on the rankings <insert name here>' stuff and the occasional 'I got into the 3K, 5K, 10K club where's my cookie/cake/key to the executive washroom' status update?
I mean all of the above is fun and can be entertaining to read/engage in, but do people actually take their score seriously? Mine is almost all from reviews at 50MS a pop (with the exception of some from a couple of games I aided/tested) if Kentona decided that we'd hit some arbitrary level of review numbers and no longer wanted to reward that activity quite so well and dropped it to 25 MS I'd lose almost half my MS overnight. That would drop me out of the 'top 10' but it wouldn't change how I interacted with the site one iota, and I'd like to think it wouldn't change how anyone interacted with me here.
Am I weird? (not in general terms, in this instance xD)

I imagine it's not a big deal for most people, but it probably encourages some people to participate, and anything that encourages people to participate, even at a very superficial level, is a good thing.
I see no reason to argue with that logic, and I really enjoy the output from members here, for the most part, if the race for MS contributes to that in a positive way then you're right, it is a good thing.
So bring on the MS Wars! xD

Honestly, I far prefer badges, but hey, MS is MS and I used to have the top amount on the site before WIP gave himself some, so I'm still aiming high. One day... one damn day... And I'll do it my own way, not by getting it given (outside of donation, of course).
>.<)b
That said, I'm not terribly salty if someone surpasses me. Just means I gotta up my game a bit more. XD

You'll get back there Lib, unless Kentona does a WIP.
I do actually like the badges myself and tend to try and collect the ones I can whenever a reviewing/feedback related option comes along. It's like getting a gold star on your painting of your house in grade 3. All of us like that feeling.
Oh, and your game is just fine, and you know it.

i like having the locker space to cram some of my junk in. It's like a personal dumpster that grows with the economic development of my site participation!
however being at spot #101 in MS is really charming. Shame it won't last forever.
the badges are ??? to me and sometimes they show up and I get all ????? but they have cute graphics i guess?
seeing myself rise in post count, however teeny-tiny, is a lil harrowing though, since I basically do nothing but talk shit when i post, or like, drool on someone's art. it's a sign i am probably procrastinating more often.

I say nothing on the quality of shit I talk...stench is in the nose of the beholder...
This is why I love MS. Now this can live in my locker for as long as I'm willing to give up the 20.3kb of space.

I have issues with the achievement system. I liked what it was originally, basically things you earn by completing contest entries, winning a game contest, having a game or article/review featured, etc. But now we give achievements for everything. A lot of achievements you get just for showing up. You get them for posting in a thread sometimes! The RMN Plays event gave out so many achievements that the 'who has the most achievements' stat is basically just the people who participated in that event.
I've shared my thoughts on this with kentona and he basically responded with the same thing I said above. Anything that makes more people participate is good. I guess I don't fault this reasoning but I'd have preferred for achievements to be rarer and more meaningful.

Why not ape the Playstation's trophy system and have achievement tiers? For example, change the borders around certain achievements to bronze, silver, and gold, with each tier giving more makerscore.
It'd be easy enough to hook users in by making bronze achievements easier to get (participating in a contest, doing just a few reviews, the letters from the RMN Plays event, etc.), but then silver or gold achievements would be harder to get (the ____, I choose you, completed a game for a jam, winning a contest, etc.).
Would that inspire people to try and go for those gold achievements by participating more?

RMN Plays was an aberration, I'm going to be perfectly happy when I disappear from that stat list as people who makes games actually earn them in the areas in which I don't participate. The only one I know for posting in a thread is the shot the sheriff one for getting the WAYTARN thread over the 1K to stop Liberty, and trust me that took some work to organise behind the scenes (all by Ky). Other than that they seems to be awarded for participation in events as far as I can tell.
Still you're one of the secret ninja's so you'd have a better idea.
