[RMXP] GAME CAN'T FIND RTP PACKAGE, WHEN IT'S THERE IN THE FOLDER?

Hello, I'm new to these games and I've got a mystery. I'm not sure if it's the right place to ask, as the problem's about playing rather than writing, but I don't know where else to ask.

I'm playing Anaryu's "World Outside". (And enjoying it, just the kind of thing I like.) It's written in RPG Maker XP. I installed the whole game, including the RTP download, to a USB stick. I downloaded and installed it using my laptop, and on there it runs perfectly. But when I put the stick into my desktop computer and try to run WorldOutside.exe there, it gets as far as putting up a black window and then says something like "RGSS RTP Standard not found". Now, the Enterbrain RGSS RTP folder, and the "Standard" folder within it, are on the USB stick, and the game can find them there just perfectly when it's the laptop that's running it. I checked (ran a search for files dating from the day I installed it) and there's not a single file of WorldOutside's or the RTP's on the laptop itself, it's all on the stick. So why won't it run just as well whichever computer it's on? It would be very convenient if it would - that's why I did it like that.

The desktop runs Windows XP and the laptop runs Windows Vista, if that's any help.

Thanks very much for your help.

It sounds like you need to download your rgss102e.dll. I'm guessing you don't RPG Maker XP installed on the computer your game doesn't work on.

Make sure you have RGSS102E.dll and harmony.dll.

If that doesn't work, in your RTP ini file, make sure you've flagged full package by adding the line, FullPackageFlag=1.
Do the full package flag thing first. Then try the other thing. Most likely it's looking for the RTP, the FPF will stop it from doing that by telling it that the necessary files are in the folders.

If it asks for Harmony.dll, there's a download for it on the site under utilities.
Thanks both of you.

I don't have RPG Maker XP installed on either computer, as I say - I'm completely posting here under false pretences. I only have the RTP.

I did have RGSS102E.dll, I tried adding Harmony.dll (although it says that's really for RPG Maker 2003) and adding that line to Game.ini. (Was it the game's .ini file you meant? The RTP folder doesn't seem to contain any .ini file.) That didn't do it, so in the end, I re-downloaded the RTP installer, and installed it again - again on the stick, but using the desktop computer. That worked. Windows XP's search system works differently (better...) than Vista's, so this time I was able to track down that though NEARLY all the RTP was on the stick, it had left 4 small files in System32 - inside several layers of subfolders, and all with "map" somewhere in their names.

Upshot, I suppose: these games aren't "portable", whatever you do with them, unless you keep a copy of the RTP installer with them to set up those files each time you want to use it on a different computer. Still, having done that I can now open my saved games on either computer, so that's a result. Thanks for your efforts!
