IT'S PAYNE

One of my favorite video games ever is actually getting a movie, and check it; it doesn't look like absolute shit. I don't know how many of you cats have ever really played Max Payne or really got into it, but by God, it's awesome. I'm not sure if it's the Bullet Time, the spot on black noir graphic novel feel, or the plain good game behind it all, but Max Payne, and especially Max Payne 2 are really fucking awesome games, so awesome in celebration of the new movie, I'm playing through both gems.

The trailer is looking really hardcore, especially to me, someone who enjoys the game heartily. Max Payne is going to be played by Mark Wahlberg, which is cool from an acting perspective, he's a pretty decent actor. But since Wahlberg hasn't been in too many BLOCKBUSTER movies, I'm hoping that this one is going to be his lucky break for real.

you can remove your own post, you know, there's a remove button.
Anyway, I dunno about considering Markie Mark a great actor, but you're right, it does look surprisingly promising. I'm a huge Max Payne fan. Then again, I can't even count any more how many shitty movies had good trailers.

I mean Marky Mark is okay, I just think he got a lot of bad luck in the movies he's casted in.
And the thing about video game movies is that they tend to fuck them up, but how could you honestly fuck up Max Payne? It's almost like a movie to begin with (in a good way, not a bad way). I mean, you'd really have to be a terrible director to botch this up.
And I don't see a remove post button anywhere.
(BTW I think we're the only ones on this forum interested in this)

Marky Mark is not a very good actor but he's perfect for the Max Payne role.
I can't honestly see how this movie will be bad. Even if it sucks big time it will be awesome because of that and if they do the game decently it might be really good... Well not really good but at least enjoyable. This film will not be any huge work of art but it'll be a fun average action film.

The original Max Payne had superb writing, I hope it jumps over into the film. I never played the second Max Payne game because I haven't bothered to beat the last few levels in the first max payne (it's actually a pretty long).
I made a topic on this movie in July. I'm actually looking forward to seeing this and as the new trailer kicks so much ass. Though trailers are always deceiving nowadays like Ang Lees Hulk trailer, Hitman looked great from it's trailer as well.
I hope it really is good though.

See, I feel the opposite of this. I think Marky Mark is okay, but I thought he was an extremely weird choice for Max Payne. I think that Brad Pitt (thinking of his roles in Snatch or Seven) or Val Kilmer (thinking of the movie Spartan) would both be better choices.
Anyone know who's directing it and what their credentials are? (I know that I could just IMDB it, but I figure we're having a discussion about it here, so I can just be super lazy and ask.)

I agree, even though the writing in Max Payne was much maligned by video game reviewers even at the time for being over wrought/purple prose/laughable, which I, even as a ("professional") writer never understood. So I'm glad to see someone else who actually liked the writing.
looks like it will be alright in the action category. idk about how the story will be.
when i had max payne for ps2, i used to like to stand hidden from the enemies so i could hear all of the stupid stuff they would say. lol

author=Max McGee link=topic=1893.msg30920#msg30920 date=1221162837Well the thing is. Mark Wahlberg, just like Max Payne, has only got one facial expression. Brad Pitt would have been a good choice 15 years ago (when he still had some reputation as "tough guy"). Nowadays Pitt seems to do roles that are a lot more flimsy than what is really suitable for Max Payne. Max Payne is that kind of hard-boiled no-nonsense guy and Pitt is all nonsense.

And Val Kilmer... Isn't he dead already?
Now Clive Owen is a choice I could have gotten behind though. Shoot 'Em Up is essentially Max Payne already. It even has Monica Bellucci as Mona Sax, an excellent choice.

Yuck.
As to Kilmer or his career being dead, have you seen Spartan? It's one of the best action movies I've seen in a while, probably because it's not an action movie/thriller at all but a David Mamet flick.

I think Top Gun takes away Val Kilmers possibility of getting a role like this anyway. Mark Wahlberg does look like Max Payne as well.. More then most actors at least. Only person who bothers me is Mila Kunis. I mean shes good looking an all but Ive only seen her in That 70s Show and wasn't impressed to say the least.
You're forgetting she's also the voice of Meg Griffin.
Well, Kilmer did Spartan post Top Gun. Seriously, see Spartan. In my opinion, it completely resurrects him as an actor.
I don't know why but I think Brad Pitt would be a good Max Payne. Isn't Clive Owen too not-blond? I don't think that Mark Wahlberg looks like Max Payne, but he's not the worst choice either. At least this movie doesn't involve Jason Staham/Vin Diesel in any way.

Man I could not imagine Brad Pitt being a good Max Payne. Not only does he not look like him, he doesn't even have the voice for it.
He does so look like him, I mean, as much as anyone does. I forget which movie it is, but one movie he's in he even has the same wardrobe.
Actually, no one looks like Max Payne because Max Payne is just a constipated grin. Wahlberg is as good a choice as anyone, I withdraw my objections.
