Rather than having multiple witches, maybe just have one at a time, but have a new player awaken witg witch powers whenever a witch dies. That would solve the logic madness cleanly but still make sure the witch role lasts the whole game.
They would have to not be a faction, though.
That might work if all but one of the witches start out as powerless witch. They know they are a witch, but not who the other witches are, and when a witch dies, one of the powerless witches becomes the new witch. They can't start out as vigilantes and then become witches, though, because then town has to correctly lynch or nightkill one specific witch at each point of the game, which is extremely difficult.

I think I'll host that witch hunt game around Christmas, if nobody else is thinking about hosting a game.
