[RMVX ACE] UNABLE TO IMPORT A CUSTOM SPRITE PROPERLY?

Firstly, I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I was unsure where to post sprite related issues.

Anyway, recently I have been creating custom sprites for tiny test project of mine, but I have been having difficulty importing them into RPG Maker VX Ace properly. I know how to add the sprite sheet to RPG Maker, but when I try to use my custom sprite, he just glitches out.

Examples:

What said sprite sheet looks like:

I think it's a problem with the way I placed the images on the sprite sheet, but no matter how much I try to space the sprites farther away, it still glitches up. Can anyone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong?

Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated!
Is it a sprite sheet with one character or the 4x2 sprite sheets? By default VX/Ace assume the 2x4, if you put... a $ in front of the file name it'll assume there's only one character on your sprite sheet. A $ or a !, idr. Look at the RTP character sprite sheets for examples.

Pretty sure it's the "$" character to ignore the sprite-sheet format.

*Edit: Oracle of Askigaga uses this technique for it's character sprites and face-sets!
I do have the $ in front of the file name, but it still glitches out like this. Did I place the character wrongly on the sprite sheet? Because it's including the other sprites around him. I think this is the problem, but I can't seem to figure out how far I should space them, but I'll try taking a look at others sprite sheets and see if I can figure it out.

Well, if the sprite-sheet looks like...

...this, then, technically, yes, it's incorrectly placed. It's including the empty space along the edges. That, and sprites (by default) have a three-step animation whereas that one has four. Unless you have a script that can read a four-animation sequence?

Either way, the suggestion I would make is to get the size of one frame, and reduce the size of the graphic to include all necessary frames, and cut out the empty space.

*Edit: Saying that, the frames look somewhat out-of-alignment. The head on the "facing down" frames are slightly more obvious to me. Then again, maybe it looks better when it actually animates? It might be hard for me to "read" frames when they are relayed like this.
Yea, now that I look at it, it is really screwed up. I was using another sprite sheet as my reference and for some reason it featured a four-step animation so I just thought it was supposed to be like that. I guess I used the wrong reference though. I'm new to this so it can be difficult to understand what I'm doing wrong. But, thanks to your help hopefully I'll working sprite sheet in a bit.

Thanks!
(And yea, I'll fix that alignment problem.)

Edit:
Woohoo! It worked!
