HOW LONG SHOULD IT TAKE FOR ONE TO FINISH A GAME?

indinera's style is to live in a developing country where the cost of living is low and make money from selling cheap, quickly-churned-out games. he actively promotes this -- if you don't believe me, check his post history on rmweb. also notice how these shitty games have $6 guides and shit? it's the SE style of impossible-to-find stuff. hedge1's post goes into more detail about that.
and yes, laxius force 1 (or power?i forget the 2k series) has terrbly-drawn porn of the rtp elfgirl in the first ten minutes. he might have become like 10% classier since then

Jesus, I just saw it. I laughed so hard, yet deep down inside I felt like dying.
I still have to admire his dedication, especially since I have yet to even scratch the surface of full-time indie development, but god I think he's one of the worst influences on the community right now.

Anyway, I don't really have much to add to this topic since everyone else said everything. The most important aspect to realize is that you need to be realistic. Unless you are a coding god, don't expect a game made in two days or less to be finished, or even good. This medium, like other creative mediums, take time and dedication.
Now, a game made in the span of months is feasible depending on what you are aiming for, but the fact that gam mak is a time-consuming biotch is something you just need to accept.
I thought Indinera Falls was French.
The fanservice is definitely a turn off. It's not limited to images either, as the plot can have a lot of Random + girl references as well. He may have matured though. I'm really only familiar with his first four games. I haven't played any since then.

I personally haven't given his games a shot because the fanservicy crap he has in his title screens kind of put me off a little.

I've read that Indinera is very traditional in his style. Maybe he adds a lot mandatory grinding to his games or something.
1 hour of content made in 2 hours is still pretty fast. Perhaps he's recruited a team and does a lot of co-op work nowadays. I know that that definitely speeds up things quite a bit.
I will try to make some smaller, more experimental games from now on. Thanks for the inputs guys.

I think it depends on how you want the game to be. (If this makes sense)
You can make games pretty fast, but that could result in ugly maps and unbalanced fights and bad stories etc. (Not always, but mostly)
If you want such things like custom graphics, special effects or very pretty maps, it can take a lot more time.
It also depends of the gampelay. Story and sequences are always taking more time than "just" gameplay. (At least it does ths for me xD)
Wheter it is worth your time or not should depend on how important the game is to you. Is it your hearts desire to tell this story and to finish this project? Or is it just for fun and not important at all for you?
I made two games. One took me a month to do and has only 1 hour of gameplay.
The second took me more than 2 years and has only 4-6 hours of gameplay.
But I always put a lot of details in every map and the techniques took some time. And I also had some breaks during development....
But then again... I'm a very slow person xD
Well.... yes. It depends on many things.
But I think, when you have the feeling that it is worth your time, then it is.
It is your own life after all. And you should do what you want to do with it. :D
If this is a game. Then do this game. No matter how long it may take to finish it.

Really depends on the scope of the game. If it's a short fun, romp made for a contest/prototype/vaporware, it can be done in less than a week, provided you have all the assets for your game at the ready.
On the other hand, game development cycles can vary greatly for larger RM games ( I'd consider any RM game 10+ hours or more 'long' for a game made by one developer ). It really depends on the mindset of the dev and and how much free time you've got on your hands, and as to how long you want to make it. Its easy to make an RM game too long, but it does tend to fall into that trap of repetition/mindless grinding/useless filler etc.
My personal breakdown:
Enelysion: stock/Mack assets, mostly custom music - 12-15 hours long: 4 years ><
Accelerated World: custom GFX, 1 hour long - 2 weeks
Lawrence of Aragorn: stock/Mack assets, 1 hour - 1 week
