PEOPLE THAT CONTINUE TO WORK ON PROJECTS THAT PROBABLY ARE A LOST CAUSE.

I once read "Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time". Even if the game is not released, the fact it gives you a good time is more than enough. I mean, we're not doing a project for a company or anything, it's to enjoy it not make a living.
Besides, as said before, putting a lot of time on a project could also mean you are really giving your all and putting a lot of love on it.

I agree with this. I think that nothing is ever a lost cause unless a developer truly loses interest in it, or gives up due to lack of confidence. There is nothing that cannot be fixed as long as we want to fix it.
For me, it doesn't really matter how long you create or finish a game! it's all about loving the game you make! xD I believe that when you put your heart into game-making and enjoy it, then you're doing the right thing :D even if it takes a century or a millennium to finish in your next reincarnation! xD haha! but in all seriousness, it is never a lost cause, you do this because you love and enjoy it! xD you do this so you can tell a story! :) you do this so you can recreate something of the very same genre that you loved where you discovered all the games you got attached to in your childhood! :) So it's never a lost cause unless you really see it that way! ;)
