Huniepop is very polished and 100% a puzzle game. There's nothing "dating" about it -- the talking to girls is a memory and sociopathy game,

That is an excellent way to put it.

saileraugs: the witness is like an even more obscure myst, isn't it? it's very pretty, i know that much. there were some mixed opinions on it in the last podquisition... not sure if i'll pick it up.

It superficially resembles Myst but the similarities end at aesthetics. There really aren't any gams I can think of that are similar to it in gameplay, but the closest I can think of is Portal. It's about simple mechanics and combining them in elegant and mind-bending ways. It's a very useful game to play as a designer because of the cleverness of the game design.

I'd play Huniepop if it was about actual romance and more realistic relationship-building, tho I guess that's never going to be nearly as sell-able as just flat-out sex appeal XD
Does Gish count as a puzzle game? If yes, then: Gish. Gish is a platformer where you play as a ball of tar. Your goal is to get to the level's exit point in as short a time as possible, collecting coins along the way. The path(s) to the exit(s) are block by all sorts things: spikes, acid-water, rabid dogs, stacks of crates, other tarballs, and etc. To overcome these, Gish can make his surface either sticky or slippery. Creative use of this and the environment is how you play. Suffice to say, that I wasted hours upon hours playing this game.

Then, there's Bookworm (and on that note, Bookworm Adventures as well). Err, You guys know how bookworm is played right? A-Anyway, brag-mode-initialised: the longest word I formed in bookworm is: 'preposterousness' XD

And Ravenhearst (along with several other point-and-clicks whose names escape my memory). My sister and I absolutely loved point-and-click mystery/puzzle/adventure games, to the point where we had an entire 500GB hard drive full of them; which is saying something, considering not one game exceeded 100MB in total size. Story varies between titles, but gameplay is more or less the same: 'find item x in this mess to proceed'.

Of course: Tetris (particularly that symbian-os version that featured turn-based competitive multi-player for up to 4x the fun!)
Portal (haven't played 2 yet, since my comp can't handle it ;_;)
EDGE (played only that version that came pre-installed in pre-android samsungs)
And the office-classic: Text Twist!

Minecraft

OK this has been weighing on my mind, since I don't play it but all I've ever seen of it is "Harvest thing, make thing"- does Minecraft have puzzle elements?
Minecraft can have puzzle elements. Since a lot of minecraft is building stuff, and there are public servers that have pre-made worlds, puzzle-like gameplay can be created and played by other users.

In single player, there's not so much naturally occurring puzzle gameplay, although figuring out how to create things on your own or to work the land in your favor can be pretty puzzle-like at moments.

Calling its gameplay puzzle like might be stretching it. (Although anything having to do with redstone is 100% a puzzle)

Thanks breh. :Ib
There are custom maps that have been made for it with puzzle concepts. Stuff like 'There is No Learning Curve', Diversity and the like force the player to think outside the sandbox (so to speak) and figure out how to progress.

For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XadWM-NLdqc / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etKvoJgCw5w

But also, like Gourd said, there are aspects of puzzling in the core game, especially since there's no clear indication in-game as to how to make things (recipes) and the like, and it eventually becomes a case of remembering how to do anything when crafting. ...I'm surprised just how many recipes I recall on the fly. Almost all of the default ones.

I... never thought you were that kind of person...
Surely, you can see that the L-block is the better choice here.

Off-topic: we're having electronics and circuit-building right now. Guess what we're using for plans and simulations... :3
Yep, minecraft. Awesoooome \(^w^)/

Loop is pretty good. I 100% it before the good people at Steam threw in more achievements for the procedural puzzles. I'm not doing 1,000 of those just to get 100% again, but it was fun while it lasted.

I love Ravenhearst. I spent some serious hours staying up until I finally conquered it ^_^

Point-and-clicks are pretty awesome and I have a decent amount on hand that I go back to, but I would say Nancy Drew is my favorite. The variety of puzzles and the detective atmosphere holds a lot for me.

Another second. I don't take repetitive puzzle types overly well, but Tetris is a masterpiece that I find I can play over and over again. I have a preference for my SNES single player, though.

Another amazing puzzle game along this line is Baku Baku for Sega Saturn (I'm not sure if it was made for any other system). Even though I groan at the sight of 'another Bejeweled-styled game' now, this one is still really fun to play.

And let's not forget classic puzzles, like Mahjong and Chinese Checkers, etc. I sucked up Pokemon Picross quickly~
