DEAR ABBY,
Posts
Dear Brandon,
What seems to be happening here is that you somehow associate your game with your girlfriend of late. However, it's a great step that this is recognized, because that's the first step to recovery. I think the best way to conquer this would be to re-associate your game instead with your new relationship.
Break all of the old chains that bound your game to your old flame, and unite them with your new love. Maybe putting in something referencing your new girlfriend in your game might help, or, if you did something like name a character in your game after your old game, it might be best to change that around. In your case, it seems like the main issue here is mentally re-associating your game from the old to the new!
Give a try and let me know how it goes!
Sincerely,
Abby

Dear Love Sick Fool,
I don't know if I'm supposed to respond to this, but oh what the hell.
Look man, I'm not going to say "I know how you feel" cause that's what everyone does, but I will say getting dumped by a girl you been going out with for 4 years is tough, hell I'll say it, it sounds like it totally sucks. But the thing is that it happened and you moved on. She's probably moved on, think about it if you keep mourning over the girl you lost then than the girl you have now that's going to affect her as well. She's probably moved on to, now it's your turn. No matter what you do, the sun will always rise, tomorrow will always come and the past will never be obtainable, but remember who knows what the tide is going to bring in next. If you mope out instead of moving on, time is going to drag you along whether you like it or not. Everyday you'll get farther away from her. So suck it up and realize if it wasn't meant to be it wasn't meant to be.
A kick to the brain,
Abbey

Dear NoblemanNick,
I don't think you read the letter very well.
Sincerely,
Abby
Dear Feld,
I think I read it ok, he states that whenever he tries to make his game he remembers his break-up with his girlfriend, which seems to discourage. So I stated to just move on and forget about her basically. I might seem to be mean, but I'm just telling the truth none of the therapist stuff. If you guys don't like my answers then sorry but that's the way I see it. Also when love crashes with other things it genearlly isn't a good mixture that comes out.
From,
Abby
Am I missing something? Why does everyone write Sincerely/ From Abby. You're not Abby. *Doesn't have any advice*
Dear Brandon,
I'm not sure you will appreciate advice from a relatively new member of RMN but here goes.
From a cognitive therapy sort of approach: I suggest that the next time you open your old game, just sit there for a long while and let the darkness come back. It doesn't matter if you get nothing done. Eventually, the bad memories will stop and you won't feel them as intensely the next time you open the game, because you just sat through the worst of it. Remind yourself that it's just a game. It doesn't need to be associated with where you were at the time you put it together. It has an existence of its own.
Sincerely,
Abby

^^------- This is the correct response, by the way. brandonabley is a man - a girly-man yes, but still a man. He has managed to put that breakup shit behind him, but he is letting feelings get in the way of his work. Be a man.
Dear Brandon,
My own findings have indicated an inverse relationship between being in any kind of relationship at all and RPG Maker. The truth is, it is very hard to find enough time to keep women happy and make video games. I have always been the most productive when either single or neglecting my relationship, with the exception of now, when I am unemployed and out of school and drowning in free time, but still in a loving relationship with lots of sex.
Anyway, my girlfriend seems to think I have a similar problem, because my earlier writing was romantic with tragic undertones, whereas in my more recent writing, tragedy tends to prevail over romance. She finds it upsetting that I am not the romantic I was in high school, and the truth is, I'm not. I've been burned too badly and I really am in a place where I just can't write like that any more, even though I can still write something. Likewise, I have an RPG Maker project I vowed to myself I would finish, but it blew up so badly and so publicly that I can't bring myself to work on it again, even though leaving it unfinished is like leaving a wound in my heart.
These things happen, and then eventually, they go away. Time heals all wounds, even if all wounds don't heal more perfectly. You might have a creative limp, so to speak, but you will be creating again, and soon. Maybe you just need a new project to inspire you. I know how you could make one little emo boy very happy by making the wish in his heart come true: REMAKE/FINISH TYRANT GOD SAGA.
Sincerely,
-Abby Normal
P.S. Alternatively, I think you will find wonderful inspiration and a cure to your broken heart lies in MY SIG. The part of it that is an IMAGE WHICH CONTAINS A HYPERLINK, specifically.
P.P.S. I need to correct Kentona's response:

Delete the game.
Wait, what game was it?

Dear OBVIOUS USERNAME Coping in the Midwest,
Sorry, looks like your only option left is to commit suicide. If you still feel the sadness now the alternative would be to live with it for many many moons. Hope you had a fulfilling life.
Sincerely,

The thing about that cookie is that it is such an inside joke that it wouldn't be funny anywhere else.
