http://www.katavila.com/hanako/youkai-glossary.html Here's a bunch of monsters for the people who like to turn japanese.

Elements play a big role in RPGs, so I'll try gathering some elemental groups:

4 Element System
Fire
Water
Air
Earth

Si Xiang (China)*
Zhuque/Suzaku
Xuanwu/Genbu
Qinglong/Seiryu
Baihu/Byakko

*Though you can work the four elements here, the original actually uses the Wu Xing, in which Qinglong represents wood, Baihu represents metal and the Yellow Dragon represents Earth.

Elementals (European)
Salamanders
Undines
Sylphs
Gnomes

Pancha Mahabhuta (Hinduism)*
Agni
Jal/Apas
Vaju
Prithvi

*adds Akash, which represents Ether.

Zodiac Signs (Western)
Aries, Leo, Saggitarius
Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo

Several myths also add a fifth element - it usually represents the intangible, the things outside of human understanding and is usually named something like void or ether.

Other elemental systems:

Wu Xing - Fire, Water, Earth, Metal, Wood
Taoist Elements - Fire-Water, Heaven-Earth, Mountain-Lake, Wind-Thunder
Periodic Table of the Elements - Don't make me list 118 elements here.
You forgot the massive and mysterious woodland creature, the Heffalump

and the strange but good-natured Wooly Whatsit

Wow, this is a really extensive list. I've done some casual research here and there, but I don't think I would've even thought to look up half of the names posted here.

Nice work, and thank you very much~

I'm copying this down in notepad though; I don't think I can rely on my memory to keep all of these names locked away!

Oh, maybe some resource conscientious moderator could think to sticky this thread.
If you want to make a fantasy race, just use

adjective + taxon + culture

The laziest way to make non-humans in RPGs.

(Anyone notice Serpent Women in many myths? Is it supposed to be dangerously sexy)? LoL

Nope, it's actually a scientific find discovered by Socrates: Women are cold-hearted, clammy, venomous, man-eating snakes.

His knowledge was spread all over the world back then, by Greecian travelers and foreign visitors/traders, which lead to cultures incorporating snake women into their myths...... Or rather, historic facts.

You can find it on any scientific site. Just type 'evil' in the search bar.

P.S. Fun(?) Fact: Most of murders, that have happened in the last couple of centuries are committed by snake women. See what happens when you let your guard down?

Remember men: Be very careful around your wife or girlfriend. You could be next!
