EDIT: I thought Japan was a bit over-populated, so in a way this is sort of a good thing?
Japan is crowded, not overpopulated. Like I said, their population level is declining and their birthrate is plummeting. By the year 3000 there's going to be like 37 Japanese people left or something.

Well, on the other hand, when your sexual habits/preferences/cultural things are causing your population to plummet and the risk of your race being eradicated from the earth, not only is it weird, but it goes against the most basic tenet of human nature that there is.
This. One must wonder if that means that they're tricking their self-preservation instincts into thinking they've done their biological mission?
