Are you looking for certain style of music for a specific game instance or setting? This is your perfect chance to request some!

The poll statistics and requests posted in this topic will directly affect the mechanics of RMN's next big music event: RMN Music Pack 2, and the participating composers will be encouraged to take on the themes requested here.

In the poll you can vote for game settings you'd like to have music for, and if you want music for a specific game instance, or a specific video game genre, you should specify that in a reply.

What exactly describes "classic JRPG" style?

If you are talking Dragon Quest, that pulls from Classical genres, not really "JRPG," for instance.

Anyway, I didn't vote yet. I kind of want a bit of everything?

Also, it's really cool how you're starting this up again.

Oh, yeah, that could vary. I was personally thinking of the anime-esque or adventurous fantasy setting that combines modern instrumentation with orchestral and synth sounds. And generally the soundscapes of 90s J-RPGs in general, while modern ones do also carry their legacy.

It's not easy to put your finger on a singular defining factor, but I think there were many tracks in the first music pack that fitted this description.

You could also think about the styles of Uematsu, Yasunori, Sakuraba and Konami's composers that composed for the PS1 era, for example.
Mix. Just like the last one.
Ah, dang it! I voted for JRPG before I noticed Underworld. Anyway, I'd love to hear some dark and atmospheric/ambient stuff (at least that's the vibes I'm getting from "Underworld").
Seriously, though, the reason the last one was so good was because the musicians could do what they wanted. Forcing them to adhere to a theme kinda defeats the purpose of getting really cool music from people who want to experiment and/or just have fun, especially when they might want to do one thing and be forced into doing something they're not good at. Say, someone who's great at bright, chirpy music being forced into making dark instead - of course they're going to not want to do that. I wouldn't blame them. Adding limitations removes people who might otherwise want to take part.

Frankly, I think it's a stupid idea to go for a 'theme'.

I second Liberty's thoughts.

Though alternatively, you could go freeform Jazz theme. I don't think many games do that. :P

We're not going for a singular theme. This topic is here to make it easier for us to take requests, hear wishes and to get ideas. No one is forced to compose for a specific theme.

Requesting was part of the previous music pack as well and Snowy_Fox, who won both Judges' Pick award and Voters' Pick award, even fulfilled some of the requests.

We have a wide array of composers partaking these events, so I think we can afford the risk of hearing our the audience a bit, too.
What about 'dystopian future'?

Forgot that one. It came to my mind just a moment ago, too.

I'm curious what those who voted for underworld imagine the underworld setting to be like?

Dark and eerie in Dark Souls way, or vibrant and colorful in Disgaea way? Or something else?
I personally think that Classic J-RPG Style music pack would give more variety to tracks, but that is just my opinion. Of course if any other location is picked I'd be happy to make music for them.
Artists should create what they are best at, with no imposed type.

The underworld that keeps popping into my head is Terranigma's. Then again, I didn't vote underworld, so...

This isn't something you should be overly worried about. It's good for a soundtrack composer to be able to compose for different settings with various styles, so it's not like the attending composers will be facing any major obstacles if they wanted to heed the results of this poll.

And this poll still doesn't prevent them from choosing to go with their watermark style and genre if they wish to.
