MOGSPECTIVE: FINAL FANTASY V
Posts
Ah, FFV. Quite a fun game indeed, though the story kinda is eh to me nowadays, it's still not that bad. I honestly should do a Job challenge of sorts since I already demolish the game normally as it is. I rarely use some classes at all since they're generally not that useful to me (Hunters generally never get used, and Chemists don't either despite how ridiculous Chemists are. Same with Bards, Dancers, Samurais, etc.).
Although I know the Steam version has terrible graphics for the characters, been kinda wanting to LP that game as well as get images for the wiki from there. It's the only version of the game I've not played at all (despite it being identical to the GBA version in terms of everything but graphics...).

I assume you're talking about Hunters as a class, right? I'm sure we all know of their infamous ability that smooshes the game.
I don't, tell me about it. :)
The last abilitiy you get from Hunters is !X-Fight / !RapidFire which makes you perform four regular attacks at half power. It is completely free to use without charge time but you can't aim it at all. It won't hit phantom targets like Berserkers will and most bosses (barring Ned) are just solo enemies so it's almost a simple x2 damage upgrade.
If it was just x2 damage it wouldn't be as hilariously broken as it is in FF5.
It has a few other benefits. A !RapidFire attack will always hit, it completely ignores enemy evasion or your own weapons accuracy. In addition it will also ignore any effects of equipped weapons, such as the Dual Lance's double attack or the occasional Fire 3 casts from the Flame Whip. However this is actually a huge bonus because the best weapon in the game* has an effect that replaces the character's action with an escape attempt. This makes that weapon safe to use with the strongest attack command of the game. Finally a !RapidFire attack also ignores defense because why not at this point.
You can use !RapidFire with a Flare !Spellblade (x2 damage) or elemental weakness *-aga !Spellblade (x4 damage if it hits a weakness) and the !RapidFire attacks gain the benefit of the !Spellblade buff.
!RapidFire owns. The rest of the Ranger's abilities are just in the way of getting it.
* This is the Chicken Knife. It's available in the third world in the game in... some town. You can get it or the Brave Blade but the Chicken Knife is way stronger. See the Brave Blade's power scales on the number of fights you won without running away but running away makes it weaker. It also can only be equipped by Knights, Freelancers, or with the Equip Swords ability.
Now the Chicken Knife scales simply based on the number of times you run away which is great since you can just flee from random encounters without penalty. In addition as it is a knife its damage scales based off strength and agility while still having an impressive base power.
Once its power up by running enough times it is hilariously powerful and its only downside is when you make a regular attack with it it has a chance of replacing that attack with an escape attempt. This is negated with !Actions that execute a regular attack, like !Mug or !RapidFire.

My God.
This is epic.
*goes off to test a couple of things on FF5.*
EDIT: Also wow, remember that time I bought a shit ton of Elixirs at 50k a pop while grinding to master jobs?

Aye, as a class. Of course I'm going to get Barrage, who wouldn't? I only use Bards for a couple dungeons and that's it as well.
Yeah, it's stupidly easy to get Elixirs at endgame when grinding, especially if you run into plenty of Movers along the way and are able to consistently kill them. ^^;
I never really felt FFV being broken or badly balanced was a problem, because exploring and finding these exploits using jobs and equipments always felt rewarding.
Sure it would feel broken if I played it again and again by using these exploits, but playing for the first couple of times and figuring out these crazy job combos by myself was a lot of fun.
Obviously, a lot of these exploits were mistakes by the devs, since Square and bugs go hand in hand... but it all worked well in the end, for me at least.
