Pool Update:

Alright, the Tampa Bay Lightning defeat the Detroit Red Wings in 5 messily games and move on to the next round before anybody else here does. I guess in a perfect world that would amount to something – but I guess not!

Both Shinan and GreatRedSpirit where the only two players to predict that the Lightning would win their series and each earn 2 points each. Not only that, but GreatRedSpirit also predicted the correct amount of games as well, so he earns another 2 points, bringing his total up to 4!

- The bracket and the full standings have now been updated!

I guess we’ll find out later on tonight if the Blues managed to defeat the Blackhawks and move on also to the next round. I personally don’t want them to - but we’ll see. :)

Alright, Lighting are first to the second round taking the Red Wings in 5! Ka-ching!

(hexatona I may have taken this CMYK thing too far)

*drool*

You're going to have to explain your method to me. I'm assuming it involves indexed colors and dithering, but beyond that I'm clueless.

Nah, I just expanded a bit on what you posted. To make the color cycle smoother I decided on what order they'd cycle throug (KCYM) then added an inbetween color for each. I converted my image to grayscale, posterized to 8 colors, duplicated that image 8 times, one for each frame, and mapped each of the greys to my KCYM with one transition color between each for each frame except I'd just advance what grey mapped to what by one each frame.

From there I had my 8 base frames of animation. I dumped them into photoshop (because I use Paint.net and it can't create animated gifs), set up the animation, cropped the image, then used the Save to Web feature to resize it and save it as a gif.

There's a few extra little things I did like:

- I cut out the girl and did her and the forest village separately. They cycle through my colors in opposite directions. I thought it'd be more noticeable but if I didn't know I'm not sure if I'd notice due to how much colorfuck is going on.

- I used photoshop's save-for-web feature when I exported my gif. It has a few dithering options, you can set the maximum colors there (I used 32 so it could blend stuff together when it got resized down), and its own resize function. Putting it through that helped a ton, the normal resize left too many stray colors and pixels since I never used the oilify or blur to smooth out the colors and gradients, I felt they distorted too many details because I can't choose good pictures.
e: Really, all the dithering was added here by photoshop, I never did any of it by hand. /e:

- A few hand touches here and there that I'm 99% sure got cut when I cropped the image.

But that's the gist of it.

My first attempt was using photoshop to index the image and manipulate the palette through that but it really wasn't working and photoshop was for some reason dropping the brightness when I converted it to indexed colors. I ended up just doing the grunt work in Paint.net and using a flood zero-tolerance paint tool to replace all of one color for each frame one at a time. I even threw together my own
color palette so I could have all 8 colors side by side when I was flood-painting.

Also I am glad kentona has joined us in the wonderful world of color cycling!

e: to make this post hockey related I watched the third and first OT of the Chicago / Blues game and went to bed when the second OT intermission started. Of course fukkin Chicago goes and scores like 3 minutes in the 2nd OT. I missed my games played bonus with my sweep bet so just end already!

e2: I also noticed that kentona's first avatar was missing black but now magically has it! I'm on to you mister!

e3: I just saw addits avatar, well done good sir!

I am. I’ve never looked so beautiful... *sniff*

Pool Update:

The San Jose Sharks have just pulled off the unthinkable and have defeated the Los Angeles Kings in 5 games to move on to the next round. I guess that Drew Doughty still believes that the Kings still have this in the bag and this was all just a fluke in his opinion. Well - he’s got plenty of chances to think about that on the golf course next week! :D

Both kentona and GreatRedSpirit pick up 2 points each for predicting that the Sharks would feast on the lowly Kings. And for the second time in almost two nights, GreatRedSpirit also manages to predict the correct amount of games too, so he receives another 2 points, further increasing his lead.

Shinan also picks up a bonus point for predicting that the series would go to 5 despite the Kings losing in that one.

And nobody else gets shit.

- The bracket and the full standings have now been updated!

And I can’t believe that the Kings are gone and maybe even the Blackhawks by tomorrow. This shit is getting crazy…

Also, tomorrow, I’ll be at a friend’s place for a BBQ on his patio so if the standings and stuff take a while to get updated on here then I apologize for that in advance, as I probably won’t be back home ‘till real late that night. I’ll try and update whatever I can as soon as I get the chance, okay? (assuming that nobody gets eliminated tomorrow)
rip rangers, there goes my NY vs NY round!

Well - sorry I was late! That was one, fine, delicious BBQ... *licks his fingers*

…Huh? Oh yeah, the pool! I knew that there was something that I had to do before I had to go to bed...

Pool Update:

Earlier last night, the Pittsburgh Penguins took care of business early as they send Henrik Lundqvist and the hapless New York Rangers to next week’s tee-times at the local golf course in 5 short games. Better get those drivers polished and ready for Sunday, guys!

A couple of players managed to earn some points with the Penguins series win, as Addit, kentona and Shinan all earn 2 points each, with Addit receiving an extra 2 points for predicting that the Penguins would win in 5.

GreatRedSpirit, who doesn’t completely go empty-handed, earns himself a bonus point for predicting that the series would go to 5, despite the Rangers loss.

- The bracket and the full standings have now been updated!

Although I didn’t get to see any of the earlier games on T.V., I did get to catch a bit of the St. Louis and Chicago game that was on last night, and - holy hell, is St. Louis about to choke in the 1st round again? If those guys blow this series and Chicago happens to come back from 3-1 down to win this series in 7 – heads are going to roll!!! Same thing if Philadelphia happens to come back from 3-0 down and beat the Washington Capitals, my god...

I’m definitely going to watch that St. Louis and Chicago game 7 on Monday for sure! Should be a good one. Either the choke is real or St. Louis finally exorcises some demons from playoffs past.

Also – why is Minny still alive and going to a game 6 tomorrow? Hasn’t Dallas already taken care of them by now? What the hell is the hold up, you guys!? I don’t like the Wild. :P

Pool Update:

- Two teams gone, two teams movin’ on, as we continue to edge closer towards the end of the first round and into the next.

First off, the Washington Capitals FINALLY took care of business against the team that just simply won’t go away, the Philadelphia Flyers, in 6 games as they defeated them on the road in a 1-0 shutout win after Philly posted the same result in the last game. Boo-yah!

Four players earned points in that one, as Addit, kentona, ankylo and GreatRedSpirit all earn 2 points each for predicting that the Capitals would win that series – but it gets better! For successfully predicting the correct number of games that this series would go, both Addit and ankylo receive another 2 points each, and considering that Washington is both these players’ “Stanley Cup Pick”the points are doubled for these two, giving them 8 in this one! Wowzers.

kentona also gets his points doubled as well for having Washington as his Stanley Cup pick, but he only receives a grand total of 4 because he botched on the number of games by just one. (Doh!)

Also, just a few minutes ago, the Dallas Stars defeated the Minnesota Wild in 6 games as they closed out their series in a nail biting 5-4 win. Despite the overwhelming odds, Minnesota gave it a good effort but it just simply wasn’t enough to send it to a game 7. *sigh* Oh well.

Addit, kentona, ankylo, Shinan and GreatRedSpirit all earn 2 points each for predicting a Dallas series win. kentona also happens to get another 2 points for predicting that the Stars would win it in 6.

And Hexatona finally gets on the board with a bonus point for predicting that the series would at least go 6, despite betting on the wrong horse.

- The bracket and the full standings have now been updated!

I’m going to go watch the Panthers and the Islanders game a few minutes. Hopefully the Panthers can take it to a game 7!

And, thank you, Washington, for finally getting rid of those bums from Philly and giving me a slight, remote chance to win the pool! You guys are so kind. :)

EDIT: Oh yeah, I guess I should quickly clarify why Shinan didn’t earn any double points because Washington is also his Stanley Cup team and shouldn’t he get something for that? Well…that’s because he picked the Flyers to win in round one in 7 over Washington, which results in no points, because 0 x 2 is still 0, but in the second round and finals he’s got them there instead, so he still has a chance to earn doubles if the Caps win the next round or beyond that.
So confusing...

Anywho, day late, but do you suppose that the window for the Rangers to win with their current core has closed? Will they start a Vancouver like freefall the next 3+ seasons?
Addit
"Thou art deny the power of Aremen?!"
6394
Well, I don’t think it’s totally closed as of yet, as they still are one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference and still have a lot of their quality guys locked up, like Nash, Stepan, Brassard, Zuccarello, M. Stall, Girardi, McDonagh and Henrik Lundqvist for a few more years and most of these guys are still in their prime, so they still have a bit more time. I would imagine that they’re probably just going to resign a couple of their current players in the offseason, like Kreider, and just plug up some of the holes on there and try again for another run next year.

The Rangers are still a very good team despite getting knocked out of the playoffs early. I mean, these guys in the last four years prior have made it to the Stanley Cup Finals once, two Eastern conferences finals, one second round – and a President’s trophy. That’s not half bad... To start tearing the core down now would be foolish at this point.

I mean, yeah, if the next year they get bounced out in the first round again or they don’t make the playoffs at all - maybe there might be some changes…? I guess it just depends on how the team fairs down the road and how the players do. But for now, they’re just fine, and it’s kinda difficult to say in three years what the team will be like moving forward, because of the draft, free agency, and what not. But for now, though, they’re fine.

Pool Update:

Double overtime drama on long island last night, as the New York Islanders, for the first time since 1993, win a playoff series at long last as they’ve defeated the Florida Panthers in 6 games, as the Islanders move on to the next round to play Tampa.

Both kentona and GreatRedSpirit earn 2 points each for predicting that the Islanders would go through. They also predicted that the Islanders would win the series in 6 too, so that gives them 2 more bonus points each, both increasing their totals up to 4!

And Hexatona and ankylo don’t go completely empty-handed, as they also both earn a bonus point for at least getting the correct number of games right.

GreatRedSpirit is now back in front with kentona slightly behind him by a single point for second!

- The bracket and the full standings have now been updated!

I like how I’m in first place for a few hours and then I get bumped down to third because of those stupid bums from long island. I didn’t even get the chance to enjoy it for at least a day...! *sigh* Oh well...

I have to say, I’m actually a little shocked that the Panthers ultimately lost this series. But then again, judging by past playoffs, the Islanders were definitely due for this, as they’re definitely the more experienced team between the two, and they rightfully deserve to win this series in the end, especially for their fans. The Panthers are just lucky that they even made it in this year, considering the amount of rookies that they have.

And, lol, here on TSN Team 1040, which does the Vancouver Canucks games and news, they’re already bashing Luongo on there saying that he can’t get it done in game 6’s similar when he was a Canuck. My god, peoples – leave him alone! He’s a good goalie!!! >:(
I didn't even notice there was a Stanley Cup double points thingy.

But who cares. Since Finland just won the Hockey World Championship. That's two hockey world championships in one year. Can we make it three next month?
