This year will be the official 9th birthday for RMN! In two weeks time we will be holding an event - unfortunately the idea we initially had has fallen through, but there's other ideas we could do and input from you guys can help us come up with one that will work and be fun for most!

3+3+3=9 - +1
This idea is basically the same as the last but broken down to be shorter.
3 hours to make in, 3 characters total, 3 maps.
Short, simple and effective.

The Trilogy (Part 1) - -1
Three days in order to create three games that are a trilogy, each made in 3 hours. Basically, one game each day, made by yourself over a total of 9 hours. Each game is made in 3 hours, not 3 hours long.

The Trilogy (Part 2)
Three people work together to make three games IN THREE HOURS. You pick your crew and have at it over the course of the 3 days. One game a day.

The Trilogy (Part 3)
Three-person chain game. Can be random or chosen, first day one person makes 3 hours of gammak. Second day second person adds 3 hours OF GAME MAKING to that game. Third day third person makes last 3 hours of gammak.

Triple Trials
Three times set up for people to make a game during and be on slack/discord/irc to chat about each others' games afterwards. 3 hours to make, 3 hours to play each others' games after everyone finishes making them (so 6 hours - 3 to make, 3 to play), 3 times to do it during (catch one or all).

Like the old 'Alex' games, we can have 3 days for everyone to make their one map (all resources included, for people who don't have RTP), and then submit them. It'd be all based around a theme or character, and then have someone at the end connect them and then have a full adventure through it!

Could be done with RM2k3 or Ace (or both with enough people! - Liberty) considering those are probably the 2 most used engines, probably no scripts just to avoid having scripts contradict or mess up other peoples maps.
I went with Trilogy part 3! Maybe I'll find two cool people to make a chain game with!

It's a neat idea. I'll add it to the OP. If enough people join we could have both Ace/2k3 so that no-one gets left out.
Definitely voting for the Alex-ish game. I'd much rather make a map in three hours than a game in three hours and I think everyone's finished product as a whole would be a whole lot nicer than the usual crop of supersmall games we get after events like this.

Could you add it to the poll? (although I already voted for Other oh well)

three 3-hour games

When I first read this, I almost had a heart attack because I thought you were asking to make games that last for three hours in a day.

Anyway, I'm liking trilogy part 2. Part 3 feels like it would be a logistical nightmare to implement. Will these games be including RMN members like last year?

Yeeeaaah, now that you mention it, Three 3-hour games a day isn't a very easy thing to do. Heck, I could barely manage one 1-hour game. But I voted for that anyway.
It wouldn't be too hard. People just pick your groups and each decide who get the first/second/third day. One event page with three devs.

Of course, if it gets picked we could do the whole "Who is free this day, put up your name, then pick a group based on that", but again, these are ideas. We can make 'em work. >.<)b

@psy: Unfortunately we cannot yet edit poll answers. :/ Just vote under OTHER and put which of the 'other' you prefer if one exists. I'll keep a running tally.

I voted for Trilogy p1, but I first read it like this as well. I was thinking about how I could pull off a game that's three hours long in only three hours of development.

Endless clicker. Each click donates $1 from your bank account to RMN's servers. Computer locks you in the game for 3 hours and will format your hard drive if you try to exit the program or if time runs out and you haven't clicked an unspecified amount.

It just seems more "together" as a community than everybody individually (or in teams) making another handful of mediocre, soon-forgotten games.

I agree. I still remember working on ALEX-IS back on gaming world: Having to complete a short map within 2-days that would be part of a bigger community game, not only was more structurally sound as a game, but it taught me how to manage my time more effectively, in order to create and learn something new as a result from participating in that event - You really do "grow" as a community when you work on a game like this.

I voted Trilogy 3, it sounds fun, it means I can team up and whatever we end up doing, this is gonna be a really fun event!! :D
Trilogy 3 sounds cool....Trilogy 1 sounds HARD!!!
I love the 3+3+3=9 idea!

Playing those games, that is.
Have fun with whatever you come up with! Include cake somewhere

I like the 3+3+3=9 idea, and many of the others sound good as well in theory. But am I the only one who thinks it's absolutely impossible to make anything even remotely worthwhile within 3 hours? I would probably not want to even try that.

I missed out on the Swapsies Event, so, I would be vaguely interested in a weird three-way version of that. I suppose Trilogy (Part 2) could work this way? Like, instead of making one game a day, each member has one day to work on a game before it needs to be passed along?

*Edit: This... might not be as great of an idea as I thought it was.

*Edit2: I'm actually more inclined for the "3+3+3" one at the moment. Or some variation of it. Like, say, only have two maps, but have four characters. Or four maps and two characters. Or have four hours to work on it, have two characters, and three maps. As long as the three variables add up to nine.

literally the point. i routinely do this without sharing just to play with dumb ideas. =)

also the infamous epic monster dungeon explore! 2 was made in 4 hours. so. anything is possible.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

All of these sound like too much work with not enough time. How about three people team up for three days to make a three minute game? That seems actually doable.
