SHELL, PROTECT, REGEN

Alright in the game I'm making using VX I made Shell, Protect, and regen skills and I wnna know if I did it right. Here's what I did. For Regen I created a new skill and put <autoHPecover20%> in the notes tage. For the Shell skill I created a new state and put <decrease damage from skills by 1/2> in the note tab and just created a skill with that state. For Protect I did the same as shell only instead of skills I put Physical attacks. Did I do this right or is there another way to do it?

Um...in and of itself these notes would not do ANYTHING so...what scripts do you have running?

Also, although this is by far not your main concern right now, recovering 20% HP per turn is WAY TOO GOOD for a regen effect.
Notes just don't magically work like that. If you tested them they would do nothing.

You need to use scripts in order to make any use out of the notes tab.

Oh, and Max is right. 20% health regeneration is obscene.
Well I have a script from KGC THAT ALlows additional effects for equipment and one effect the discribe is autoHPrecovery10%> I thought putting that in the notes tab of a skill would make a regen spell but i guess not. A part of me figured that notes wouldnt do anything without scripts but hey im still new to the computer version of rpg maker.

Check the KGC script again and try to figure out the exact wording needed for the HP recovery to take effect and put exactly that wording (including capitalization/punctuation) into the note box. Then test it to see if it works.

As for the other two functions, while I know it's not an exact match, an easy workaround would be having Shell be a state that gives 200% Defense (should equal 1/2 damage from physical attacks).

Less perfect is giving a 200% boost to mental, since that would help you increase magic resistance, reducing magic damage to 1/2 which is good, but would also increase the magic damage you deal by 2x as an unwanted side effect.

But it sounds to me like you have the means for at least protect and regen at your fingertips, you just need to experiment to get them working.

Side note: Do NOT use the names "regen, shell, and protect" for these abilities unless you are making a final fantasy fan game. And while we're at it, don't make a final fantasy fan game. ;D
FF fan game? Accually I've been thinking about that but they have so many already. Though I do have steal and Limit Break systems that would go perfectly in an ff game. I'll think about it. Hmm, I wonder how you make an enemy skill like system where you can learn enemies skills... Know a good place where I can get some good FF music?
