BONDS OF FRIENDSHIP?
Posts
One of the closest communities I've ever been in was RPG Maker Database, an old forum/site that sprung out of the RPG Maker boards off of GameFaqs that eventually got pretty huge. I've got to know tons of people there, and made lots of friends, acquaintances, enemies, the whole nine yards. That lasted for years, until the administration started to suck and the site collapsed on itself and I guess everyone else is dead or something but hey good times, right?
I was also Vice Admin of a site called Neonsoft that some kid ran, and he was a pretty good coder and he had an excellent site but he was sort of a retard and I don't even really remember how that went down. We had a nice little community while it lasted before he decided forums were gay and shut them down and the rest of the site imploded on itself.
Another rad place was a forum that my good friend that I still know from middle school ran way back in the day, me, him, and a few other RL friends started that up and it grew big time, and that was really enjoyable because it had a certain atmosphere to it and we really did a lot of networking and such.
I'm a pretty open and friendly guy, and I've always been open to make new friends, and people from RMN have been pretty cool to that extent, I get IMs all the time from RMN people wanting to say what's up. I really like it when people do this, because well, the community extends beyond the forums and site itself, making friends can happen anywhere at any time. I'm getting to know everyone more and more as time goes on, and it's pretty awesome.
However I will say this, if you AIM me and I don't get back to you for hours, its not a lost cause, out of habit I never put up an away message or anything, so I may be at class or something, lately I've been really busy so sometimes I haven't been able to get at everyone, but I'm not ignoring you, just keep saying hello! I won't forget.

I'm a pretty chatty guy. I talk to Harmonic, Craze and WIP a fair bit, and to a bunch of other people that may or may not be affiliated with this forum. And some 'RL' friends.
If anyone wants to talk, they can just message my AIM whenever I am on. Though, like Feld, I might not get to you right away. I'm not as scary as I am on these forums at times. I promise!

Same here- anyone's free to message me as they please. And I'm bored much of the time anyway. Of course I have MSN and YIM too if that's more of your style or whatever.
"a fair bit" is an understatement.

<Craze 10:39:24> My goodness.

It's hilarious when our AIM conversations spill onto the forum and IRC before they wind back up in the IM box, isn't it Karsu?
I don't know about friendship with either IRL people or internet people.
I'm not much of a friend-type person, and people rarely talk to me (maybe because I don't bother talking to them first). I guess you could call me lonely, but the thought of high amounts of attention gets to me sometimes so I tend to avoid approaching people on Windows Live.

I don't really have many internet friends at all. A person on another forum i go on lives about 2 houses down from me which was pretty funny. I would consider him a friend.
I consider very, very few online people my "friend." I've been stabbed in the back far harder and far more often online than I have been offline. Online, you can't gauge facial expression and tone. Offline you can. Online, people can seem as nice as they come, but once they've taken what they need from you like work or promotion or whatever, they often readily drop you with no remorse. It's easier to be an ass online because you can't get punched in the face for it. So to answer your question, yes I do consider some online folks my friend, but very, very few. I've learned my lesson.
