I never complete Side-Quests~
I just stick to the main story that is needed to finish the game~
That's what I do to. I never do the sidequests until my second play through.
Whenever I start a new RPG, I will always seek out the nearest save point, save, and quit.
I do that too, and I don't play it again for the rest of that day.
This might be unrelated, but anyhow. Do you guys remember going through Traverse Town in Kingdom Hearts? Whenever I would be in that town, for some reason the music makes me think of State Farm; "Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there!"

*record scratch*
I never use any of the one-use items. I always wait for the perfect moment, but then the end of the game comes, and I still have them. Even then, I don't use them.

Also, in RM games, I always walk in the middle of a path. I'm OCD about symmetry or something. 2-tile-wide paths just bug the hell out of me.
In metroidvania games, if I'm going somewhere, I constantly jump and attack nothing right before I hit the ground on my way there.

I've been doing my best to break out of this habit. Most recently, I've been using Lapis's and Megalixers a lot more often in Chrono Trigger since I stopped using Marle.
