HEY GUYS, WANNA HELP OUT? LET'S TALK.

I love how this topic just randomly came back up again. I might become active on GW and a couple of other sites, and if I do, be sure that I will always have an RMN sig underneath of me!
EDIT: I became a member of GW, and believe me, I am "reppin dis hood".
Seriously though, I love my signature over there, and I wish I could use it here. It's just so goddamn huge. Here's a screen:

For anyone who wants that RMN sig, here it is:

EDIT2: Apparently my GW sig is "way, way too big, also obnoxious." I'm sorry, but if you are running a good resolution (one higher than 1024X768) then it looks just great.

Please use the RMN logo. Yes, I am super finicky about that. Logos were made to be used.
It's ok, the dick mods over there seem to run terrible resolutions, and thus, have hidden my signature. So, I did only text, completely advertising RMN.
Also, I would use the logo, but it's just too small. If it is ok with you, can I take the image and attempt to form a banner out of it?

putting RMN sigs in RMN seems a little redundant... i mean... the person would already be here if they're reading your sig! i think this is more useful for those you use other forums or on your website or something....
when is RMN3 suppose to be coming out? what new stuff?

A goal I really want the site and community to have is more people that are into a variety of genres, besides RPGs. No, I'm not aiming for a lesser focus on RPGs, but more people that are also into other kinds of games, like fighting games, shooters, action adventure, and other things. People find the thought to diversify the community scary, but I think that's the best thing that could happen for everyone. Imagine how much we'd all grow as gamemakers (or even just be more interesting in general) if we had more people into other genres of games and things.
Most of us are already into RPGs, anime, and the like, but where's our hardcore FPS fans and gamemakers? Our fighting game fans that could whip up an awesome Street Fighter or King of Fighters game? Someone who's into comic books and is into a Sin City or a Watchmen style or something? I want to see more kinds of games made, and different kinds of people with different interests to reflect that.

I like most of these things, except fighting games, which I detest.
The thing about FPS while I would LOVE to make an FPS there is no way to do that decently at the level we are all at as developers. All of the beginner-level tools out there are shoddy and broken. It is very frustrating. Unless you have a solid background in hard coding and CG modeling and probably textures too it is basically impossible to make your own FPS. There is no program that is the equivalent of RPG Maker for FPS (the ones that do exist suck 1000x harder than RPG Maker) which is really, really, really infuriating.
The reason so many people here make RPGs is because RPG Maker is a solid engine that's really easy to use and presents thousands of possibilities. As Max said, there's no good FPS Maker or anything, so without a team of experienced coders and the like, making an amateur FPS is difficult, especially if you happen to be only one person.
If I had the tools to make a TF2-esque FPS, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I don't mind people making RPGs! I want more people to try out the engine and to join the community. However, I want the community as a whole to grow and I'd like to see more people try out other genres on other engines as well. Let me reiterate, I don't want anyone to begrudgingly feel compelled to put down RPG Maker to try out Sphere or Gamemaker, but I would like to see more people in the community in general that are into the engines and the respective supported genres.
I see Action Game Maker filling this role in the future.

Just wait until AGM comes out. I plan on making a full-length 2D metroidvania. I would have already if my computer didn't hate the shit out of Game Maker.
But for now, I'll stick with RPGs, and I'll continue to use RMVX even once AGM is out.

Yeah I gotta go with TooManyToasters. With AGM things will probably change. Hopefully no one will make those stupid LegendOfZelda-like games on RPGmaker anymore when AGM is out.
Their is this FPS Creator though It's Vista exclusive. But it has a nice mapping tool going for it as well as graphics and AI.
I used to make maps for Descent I & II with the level maker it came with. Quite awesome.
I've also made many mods for Red Alert, and I posted it here some time ago, but without much response. :(

I remember before we got thin clients at our school that boot linux from the server, we used to play Descent allll the time on those snazzy windows 98 computers. We still have a few in the library but it's just not the same to beat down the same kids in there over and over. I was literally the best at this game within my entire school district...of about 50 people who actually played :P

Tau, I happen to know that that program and every single program from the same company ("The Game Creators") is a horribly broken piece of shit that will break your computer and everything it makes looks like a piece of shit and arrrgh I can't even keep talking about it I hate it so much i want to vomit no one should ever even consider buying one of their shoddy products ever fuck them so much.
The version of the FPS creator I tried was, I think, earlier, and was obviously (and THANK GOD) a free trial version, but my experience with it was nothing short of torture. It was completely beyond the capabilities of my BRAND NEW HIGH PRICED HP LAPTOP w/ Nvidia graphics card to run and their DLC plan (pay $20 for a fucking weapons pack? fuck you!) was nothing short of highway robbery. Likewise their AI was honestly just a joke (can you really call enemies who just stand there and occasionally, sometimes, maybe shoot at you an AI?) and their fucking engine made the original DOOM look like the new Call of Duty in comparison.
They are however GREAT at marketing. That LOOKS great on the page but I am 100% sure it will be just as soul destroyingly awful as its predecessors because you know what the one I played LOOKED great too until I opened it up and watched my computer slow to a crawl the few times it didn't fucking crash.
I would rather be cursed to work with nothing but RM2k for the rest of my life than have to fucking use FPS Creator ever again.
Yeah but what about other game engines, such as Sphere, Gamemaker, and ika? Keep in mind that I'm NOT saying anyone who currently makes RPGs to stop doing so and use another program, but I'm saying it would be very lucrative for the community to attract ALL sorts of gamemakers, not just people who are interested and make RPGs, but people who are interested in other genres and want to make them as well.
That way we can all learn from each other as a whole.

I think we here at Game Over Games Productions are doing pretty good job on making variety of games. RPGs, arcade games, RTS Engine under development (well not really an engine on its own, basically will have most programming needed to make an RTS in GameMaker already done; we thought that we might as well contribute something to the GameMaker community), and if I ever get a faster, stabler internet connection again I swear I am going to work with A. P. Gardner to bring the open-source Retribution FPS Engine up to modern standards, starting with a multiplayer lobby and bump mapping.
I do think that it would be a good idea attract people who use other engines and have never heard of rpgmaker. I'll try to bring some GameMaker folks over here. Come to think of it though, I don't think I've ever seen a complete GameMaker RPG.
