yeah its just too bad tallent is further down the line, ethically it should come first but it really doesnt :/ its lame. it takes years to become an actual Designer to pitch your own idea, Art director is pretty much below them lol you might get lucky but hardly anyone with no industry experience comes fresh from school to make a game thats hit the industry, the last game i can remeber that did that (which was non indie based) was portal. but she was trained regardless of that idea. nothing since really.

its all turning to pipe dreams these days, its easier to be a movie director...
sad days. :(
Well believe what you want, really bad for you :P

Kuroi's pessimistic outlook is unfortunately 100% right and it applies not just to game design but to just about every creative profession.

And this is why I contemplate suicide every single day.
tsk, suicide is for loosers, real man die trying :D

Seriously, everything can be done as long as you are a pest about it.

You are absolutely full of pluck and that is why I love you. :)

Jesus christ it's like a land of broken dreams in here.

For reference, I am not saying you will get a job in any industry or whatever if you make some mildly popular RM* game. I'm just saying it's possible I personally have little interest in going into a game production studio myself and would prefer to have creative control over the projects I make.

Also, having been in a film/animation school, it is not easier becoming a director. EVERYONE EVER wants to be a director, and the pretentious fucks at my school will be glad till tell you so. When it actually counts, though, very few will ever actually become something cool like a director, cinematographer or editor, and become the guy who gets the asshole director his coffee in the morning. (Thankfully, I have no interest in becoming a director and am in the animation track anyway, so!)

But yeah, some people will make it, many won't. That's how it always is. Doesn't mean you need to shit on everybody that wants to go and do something, though, Kuroi.
Thanks McGee, having a lot of energy can only be a good thing, for it you don´t get where you want to get to, you will at least get a very good place (or die trying and be somewhere in history books/CD-roms) :D

lol im being realistic, nothing more, id be lieing to everyone here if i said "oh yes pure talent and hard work gets you into the industry" but thats like 20% of it. you'll need a hell of alot of luck, alot of practice and be prepared to not use that tallent for a good few years if you even get that job. Call me a pessimist and say im putting a downer on people's dreams but its the simple line of truth; the games industry is extreamly hard to get into it, when your in it don't expect to stay there for more than 10 years, all of which of them 10 years you will be jumping around different companies as they go bankrupt, lay people off or find someone else who comes along with more tallent than you; its a brutal buisness thats why you get 'industry vets' at the age of 30, theres a fine line between pessemism and realism; either one is truth.

I make RPGs for my own personal enjoyment and I'd probably not want to do so professionally because it just seems like less honest work is put in it for enjoyment and more for profit.

So theirs no need to rain on peoples parade here man.
im not raining on anyones parade, someone said otherwise, i corected them, i didn't just come in here and say "no one is gonna make it" becasue some people will, most wont.
Industry = pain in the a*s :'(
Hobby = fun :D

No matter what you do in life, you need to earn money, even if it means you won't get to follow all your dreams. Adaptation is one of those great things about humanity and we should exploit it. Do freelance projects in your sparetimes, study in related fields if you can, if not try to get into close fields. I missed my chance to get into moviemaking a year ago. So what? It happened, it's sad, boo-hoo-hoo. Done. Now I'm employing my time to get something that other employees won't be able to offer to the boss and if all goes well I'll be fluent in six languages inside two years. I still work on projects that are related to the career I aim for. But to just say "nay, nothing will work, there's contingency and obstacles", well then you're the first one to sign up for failure.

And if I fail again? Then I guess I'll use one of my contingency plans. But personnally, I believe that being an employee (or a freelance worker) with unique and useful skills can guarantee at least some recognition, more than those who have nothing to offer. ;)

That said, it's no good to wait for miracles. As said the battlecruiser captain in Starcraft, "make it happen".

Yes very serious although I may not have released any games at all a crappy demo at the most, I consider this my training for the career I want to pursue which is Game Programming. Although RPG Making is very different from the real game programming and there isn't a maker but an engine and sometimes you have to build the engine yourself. But it allows me also to star thinking up idea and get the creative juices flowing. I have many ideas in my head but I dismiss a lot of them because there probably not suited for a game.
