ASA'S TELLAHVISION *SKYE REVIEWED!*

my complaint is not only the fact that they call the guy Slade, but that this Slade always somehow happens to be some mysterious guy who we're supposed to think is cool because he fights on his own terms and he is somehow "mysterious" and "dark"... and over HALF of them are vampire hunters, for no reason other than "Hey, Slade was all I could think of, and it's COOL!"
I would rid the Earth of Slade if I could.

I still don't know how you can get annoyed by that. He isn't even a main character in the game.

Slade from Demon Legacy is the direct opposite of that. :'(
I haven't heard any arguments defending the alleged coolness of the name, lol.
Seriously, is there like a fanclub or something? Is there some deeper reason other than it's another way to spell "Slayed"? Now I truly am curious to find out what exactly attracts people to the name.

I like the name Slade. I think it's a better name than a lot of other names. This is possibly because of my positive connotations with it. You see, one of my favorite games has a main character with this name (as his surname), and I guess he does fit the dark and mysterious description... but honestly I hadn't seen another character like him, and he wasn't 'copied' off of any other Slades as I'm aware of, as he was one of the first.
It's like how I was remarking in high school how much I like "Pride and Prejudice," to which a boy responded that it was trite and overdone. Which, obviously, it couldn't be, because it spearheaded the genre, and all others came after it.
But I guess if you've played lots and lots of games and every one had a dark mysterious Slade in them, I can see how it would get rather tiring, and you would then equate "Slade" with a lack of creativity.
Also I never thought of Slade as "Slayed," but maybe I'm just slow on the uptake in that department.
No because "slayed" ISN'T EVEN A FUCKING WORD, the word is "slain", come on asalieri man, you're an English teacher, you know there's no pun there.
Holy fucking shit have we ALL dragged this topic...off topic. :P

Yeah, that sounds about right. Slay is a weird verb.
This is why English sucks and I envy Asa and Suzu's living in Germany.
English has like, maybe 2 regular verbs that conjugate normally. Everything else is irregular and stupid.
Deutsch is a better language because it makes sense, except for a very few irregular verbs. Also if you don't know a word, you can just put two other words together that describe the item you're referring to and most people will get it. (I did this once when I didn't know the word for "mountain biking.")
English sucks forever.
Hmm...
He slayed the dragon.
He slain the dragon.
I dunno, Max, seems like it doesn't work that way.
Wouldn't it be "He slew the dragon?"
nononono.
You guys don't get what I'm saying at all.
I didn't think anyone could be dumb enough to think that slayed was the past tense of slay. I thought they were saying it was the past participle. The correct past tense is slew. The correct past participle is slain.
Present Tense: Let's slay the dragon.
Past Tense: We slew the dragon.
Past Participle: The dragon has been slain.
In short, slayed is not a word at all hence slade is not a pun.

That doesn't mean people WON'T use "Slayed" in a sentence! Since when does it have to be gramatically correct for someone to think it's cool and use it anyway?
Edit: Rasta's reasoning is the same one I would go with.
As for this:
This is why English sucks and I envy Asa and Suzu's living in Germany.
No, no, no. You do NOT envy us. If you lived here, you'd be pretty much bored to tears.

No way, I'd be visiting my TA from freshman year every single day. I want to move to Germany so bad. I think that's probably a weird aspiration, huh?
Can't wait to see your next review (trying to get back on topic-ish).
