'Quantum of Solace' continues the high octane adventures of James Bond from 'Casino Royale'. Picking up literally hours after the previous film left off, after being betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Having captured Mr. White, and in pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and 'M' interrogate Mr. White who reveals the organization which blackmailed Vesper to steal Bond's casino winnings is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined.

Forensic intelligence links an MI6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille, a woman who has her own vendetta. Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene, a ruthless businessman and major force within the mysterious criminal organization known only as 'Quantum'.

On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world's most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano. Using his associates in the organization, and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in Bolivia, giving General Medrano control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land which is, however, a main source of the South American water supply. In a minefield of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond allies with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists, and even 'M' herself, to unravel Greene's sinister plan and stop Quantum from getting its way.

Anyone seen this yet or planning on seeing this? I thought Casino Royale was an amazing movie, definitely gave the series a better look and feel in my opinion. Plus it wasn't just some middle aged guy running around with perfect accuracy and screwing every bitch in sight.

SEAN CONNREY
I hadn't seen Casino Royale, so parts of this movie made absolutely no sense to me when I saw it. But all things considered, I thought it was pretty entertaining (the boat sequence <3), and way less ridiculous than some of the past few films!

Sean Connery (sp?) is the only man I will ever recognize as James Bond.

That said, this movie wasn't half bad!

As a fanatic of the books, most all the movies prior to the latest Casino Royale were lame. Now, I hear nothing but bad news where my Book-Bond ideals are waiting patiently to see Quantum of Solace. Makes me a sad Dudesoft.
Wait... James Bond.. BOOKS? What the heck man?

Just got back from it. Pretty good flick. I love how Bond basically gives challenges and impossible obstacles the finger.
This movie was more a Bourne Identity flick than a James Bond flick. There were constant fights and situations where Bond had to use ingenuity, quick reflexes and whatever was at hand to overcome an obstacle.

However, there were NO SCENES where he gets to act suave, work the room, act cocky, order a drink and woo the ladies. Nor was there much humor or clever lines or sexy dames or neat gadgets, and the "big secret" was revealed anti-climatically. Plus the villain was very generic.

I happen to like the Bourne films, so that's okay, but this was hardly a Bond film.

Without having seen any of the Bourne flicks, but having a very good idea of what makes a Bond film (possibly because James Bond is the closest thing our culture has to a Platonic Ideal :P) I have to disagree with Kentona.

I would say that the film WAS a Bond film (cars, girls, gadgets, action, style, only now the girls are actual characters with motivations other than lolfuckbond and the "gadgets" are on the bleeding edge of real life technology, not whacky made up shit) but not played tongue in cheek (as in Connery) or played outright camp, for laughs (as in Moore, and I hate Roger Moore as Bond, by the way) but played totally straight, "edgy", and dark. (Let's call Casino Royale "Bond Begins" if you will, and Quantum of Solace is most definitely "The Dark Bond".) And I thought that this worked on its own level.

I thought that the way Bond infiltrated the meeting at the opera (which was a really cool idea in its own right, surprisingly) and bated the conspirators into leaving so he could photograph their faces was actually VERY SPY LIKE, which was a pleasant surprise to find in a Bond film which are usually about totally ridiculous nonsense that isn't anything like anything a real spy would ever do.

I do agree with Kentona that this movie was totally overcharged with action sequences and chase scenes which weakened it for me because I mean come on guys the signal is being lost in the noise.
Just saw this today and it was pretty awesome. The fighting and chase scenes were great.
