CloseA story that involves other games charactors and worlds? I have a whole 2 part story using this. This game would be like Kingdom Hearts but with game charactors and worlds. Also, you wouldn't just go to each world and playthrough a compressed story, you would go back and forth for events and stuff. This story involve a fair bit of FFIX so I thought I could TRY to remake the whole world of it in 2d. I know this would be hard but I could try. Also, this game would take place after the story of all the worlds you go to. If anyone is interested I could post the intro here.

I've seen many topics over the past six years on many boards about making a Kingdom Hearts type RPG Maker game, and none of them made it. I'm not saying yours can't (add Dragon Kingdoms, maybe?), but we'll need some screens and such of this game.

First of all, why would you want to make a copy of "entire world" of some other game, when in KH none of the worlds you visit are copies in first place, but spin-offs.
Plus this has been done in Rpg Maker before. In a sort of way, by a guy named Dudesoft, if I remember right.
Going with something original is always a better idea...

@VideoWizard: It would hardly be like Kingdom hearts at all. You would play as a caracter that would travel to some worlds in games, most of it would take place in a original world but with game characters. It will take place after all the events in the games that are involved. you don't travel to world like in KH, you follow a very linear story. It would have very little free roaming which is why I thought I could remake the world that the main char visits. The main characters will not be from games.
@Rei-: Why not remake them? This would make the game far more expansive then just making the places you go to in the story. Also, it would give the player something to explore, I wouldn't just make it empty or unchanged. I thought up this story that has taken half a year, and converting it to not use charactors from games would ruin it completely

First I think this is not the right section for this topic....
Second: If you truly want to do this you should never by any meanms ask others if it is okay or not, by doing so you show a lack of resolution. Not saying you should ignore criticism, but unless you are going commercial you shall make the game that you want to make above anything regardless of what anyone says.
If I were you I´d just work on things and come back with a topic already containing screenshots, features, characters, backstory and so on so ppl can give opinions. As it is you could either come up with a shitty game or something really great, how can we tell? What matters is execution above all.
Now if you really are not sure of what you want to do, then sit and only work on something you have absolute conviction that you want to do even if we all posted in your topic saying that it was the most stupid idea ever :P

Anyway, uh, I feel the same way about this any egotistical, self-obsessed indie game maker feels about it; if you can include MY worlds, and get 'em spot-on right, go for it!
Edit: Oh wait, you're talking about some kind of final fantasy fan game? I thought you meant using worlds from RPG Maker games. Anyway, in that case I'd advise against it; we don't need any more FF fangames!

It has worlds and characters from GAMES, like Sonic,final fantasy, metroid,zelda and a few others. But unlike kingdom hearts the characters from games have alot to do with the main story. You will go to the world in FFIX and that planet in super metroid (forgot the name) You don't go to hyrule, it's mainly just the characters, same as sonic. Also, I'm not asking if I should make this or not, I'm asking what you would think about it. BTW, You won't get to chose the world you go to like in KH. You follow a very linear story.

and try to form a storyline then it's trash

Meavor: It's mainly nintendo charactors, just one Final fantasy game. Also, Theres no FF7 in this story at all except cid who looks like he dose in FF7.

It will be unplayable BECAUSE it'll have a worthless story. It has a high chance of being badly written particularly because no one with any writing skill or talent for words would waste their time putting those characters into the same worlds together, much less put them in the same GAME together. Games made only for the sake of displaying one's fandoms often have no coherent plot, lame characterizations, and let's not mince words; they SUCK.
I've had the urge a few times to make a game in which various members here submitted characters from their games. Mybe when I have a good set of mechanics in need of subject matter...
