WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SEE FOR THE PODCASTS?

As you guys know we do podcasts for special events such as Play Somethings, Release Somethings, and etc. These podcasts are often pretty eagerly awaited and well recieved.

However, why stop there? We were discussing a while ago of expanding the podcasts to be held more often and on a wider range of topics, but what do YOU want them to be? What would YOU like to hear the podcasters talk about? This topic is for discussion on any and all suggestions or thoughts on the matter that anyone has.

I'd like to hear a bit more banter out of the podcasts. It brings out the host's personality, which - if done well - can really bring out a personality for the entire program.
Of course, I'm an avid fan of T-man in the morning.
That's an interesting point.

Anyone else have any thoughts?
I'm all for unpretentious/interesting hosts-- but it seems we've done a good enough job with that where it isn't really a problem. So, unfortunately, I'm inclined to disagree there.

I *do* think it might be neat if we occasionally had more frequent, less-lengthy podcasts that dealt specifically with only one or two mutually accepted games on the site, however. Each host would have the chance to give more insightful (and elaborate) insights on it-- almost in the way that professional game-oriented websites (IGN, Gametrailers) could, instead of the awkwardly condensed blurbs we provide in the RS! podcasts.

Also, definitely one or two about the Misaos, when they happen to draw closer. :]
Keep in mind that this isn't the 'Suggestions for the RS/PS Podcasts', this is a suggestion for podcasts, period. So you can be as honest as you like, hell, even suggest something totally new.

I'd say, as I'm going to take part in a longer podcast, It'll have to have some sort of organization to it, instead of Nick's haphazard CM 'cast.

I'm thinking maybe a multi-act, where each person has the role of either serious reviewer, random blurter, etc. Some good examples of a multi-act would be the Mythbusters crew, or Radio Talk Show Hosts.

I actually REALLY ENJOY the reviews of games and I'd like it if they were a bit more in depth comprehensive.

Also if the speakers feel at all like discussing their own games I would not at all be offended by that.

I'm really into anything about indie RPGs and how they're made.

And I want to hear myself as a guest host on one of the podcasts soon, of course... :-X

Edit:
I'd like to hear a bit more banter out of the podcasts. It brings out the host's personality, which - if done well - can really bring out a personality for the entire program.

Be careful with this, it can get way out of hand. If you're feeling really brave you can listen to GhostLive and here how fucking totally off the wall me and Otokonoko got but I do NOT recommend this.
I think as the hosts get more experience, 'chatter' will happen sort of naturally.
I would like it if the podcasts had a segment geared specifically to discussing Game Design (For Indie RPGs). Not even mainstream gaming podcasts have a lot of that.

The old episodes aren't up right now. I'm trying to get my old box up and running to get em up again, but it might be a bit.

Also, "I AM THE FLAMING AMPERSAND, BEWARE MY POWER" is quite possibly the best podcast quote EVER.

Just tossing a few out there.
  • Interviews with gamemakers.
  • A "what I've been playing" segment where people just talk about what RM games they've been into and why.
  • Something about unpopular, but well-done games. I've played a few games like this that are pretty neat but get absolutely no attention. Of course some authors do this intentionally.

MY GOD what was I on at the time.

At the time the quote was uttered, you were actually not on anything besides maybe copious amounts of alcohol. One of your college buds told a story about the first time you tried something (exact thing escaping me at the moment) and he babysat you while you were under the effects.

Other choice quotes from said story are "I am stuck under a table. Please help me." and "At one point, he believed his guitar was attempting to eat him."
So as the podcast host this thread is very interesting to me!

I am surprised none of you are demanding more professionalism/better audio/etc because I am embarassed by how sloppy the RMNcast is. But all of us are inexperienced hosts and it is frankly way better than the first 3 episodes of any other amateur podcast. Also the the file bitrate is so low because of restrictions imposed by temporary hosting (we don't have an official feed yet!). So without further ado:

Interviews: I am lukewarm on this idea. I do not know if members of our community really have the celebrity status to be interviewable. If you disagree and you want to hear interviews, then by all means we will do them. I have been interviewed for several community features (especially foreign ones) for music etc and I always feel like a pretentious ass, but this podcast is for you and not for me!

What we've been playing: I believe we do this already but mostly because the only 3 so far have covered events. In a general community podcast of course we would have this also.

Unpopular, well-done games: Actually when we choose the Featured Game we look out specifically for this. Note that we recommended Kinetic Cipher and Legacies of Dondoran which are classics, but not Ara Fell (we had a discussion specifically about that game once). By all means feel free to mail staff if you see a game you think should be featured, especially those not on RMN forums.

Game Design section: This is a great idea.

Reviews: This is the same as what I said for what we've been playing as well as featured games. I always hope we will talk about the featured games with more depth but I think we are still awkward.

Misaos: Holy shit I am not looking forward to playing like 5000 games in one month. But I will do it . . . for my fans . . .

As for this, I believe the "interview" idea would be better accomplished by having the guest host speak briefly about their game as part of their introduction. This, of course, would necessitate a constantly changing guest host, and I don't know if that is your intention or not.

I think the interview idea is a great idea.
I'd like roundtable discussions on certain aspects of *insert aspect here*. A topic that was decided beforehand. Perhaps a game or two that was tested by ALL the hosts and then discussed in some fun and meaningful way.

Perhaps a combination with a couple of games on a certain topic that was played through and then the topic and how the games dealt with the topic is talked about for a while. (or something)

I'm also in favour of more editing. I don't know how much editing is done as it is (It might be a lot I have no idea), but I think you could somehow tighten it with the occasional edit.

I think it would be better to have "multiple shows" on the same feed rather than a strict format for every episode. SO that one show is the "roundtable show" and another is an "interview show" or "release something show". I'm not overly fond of 2-hour shows with every damn segment. I'd much prefer the segments to be cut into different shows.

Of course it's probably good to have some sort of "main show" but that could perhaps be more community based. Stuff like "what I've played" and "latest releases" and "feedback" and things like that could go in there. While there could be "special shows" for those others.

Or something. I'm throwing out a bunch of things here. I think interviews could be good. Like those I was supposed to do last year about this time. (Where the idea was interview with almost any random gamemaker and let his/her voice be heard.) I still wouldn't mind doing those and I really hated how I just abandoned it because of things out of my control.

Another derivative or... uh whatever. Of the multi-show thing could be that the RMN-feed/podcast could be the host of many shows featuring all kinds of people from the community. (by that I mean that instead of having the "regular" hosts users could submit their own shows. Sort of. Not without a proper screening process and all that but you might get the idea. Perhaps a feedback/review show where users could submit their own 3-5 minute reviews of games and they'd all be put into one show. Perhaps with comments by regular hosts (or just with "here's a review of xxx by yyy")

Goddammit. I was supposed to end this post at "I'm throwing out a bunch of things here" but more keep coming up. I'll just press Post now.
How about every time RMN changes it's featured game, release a podcast about it!

I demand more professionalism, and better audio, Etcetera!

You guys are alright but whoever was doing the "Do's" in the last one shouldn't. And you definetely need to make sure no roommates come to the door. It ruined the podcast and makes it seem unprofessional.
