War. War never changes.

From Wikipedia

Fallout 3 is an action role-playing game released by Bethesda Game Studios. It is the third major game in the Fallout series, which has also spawned the spin-offs Fallout Tactics and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.

Fallout 3 takes place in the year 2277, 30 years after the setting of Fallout 2 and 200 years after the nuclear war that devastated the game's world. The game places the player in the role of an inhabitant of Vault 101, a survival shelter designed to protect a small number of humans from the nuclear fallout. When the player's father disappears in mysterious circumstances, the player is forced to escape from the Vault and journey into the ruins of Washington D.C. to track him down. Along the way the player is assisted by a number of other human survivors and must battle a myriad of enemies that now inhabit the wasteland. The game has an attribute and combat system typical of an action role-playing game but also incorporates elements of first-person shooter and survival horror games.

This topic is long overdue, man. Where's the Fallout love? Anyway, Fallout 3 came out for PC and XBOX 360 about two weeks ago, and by now mostly everyone who's interested has either played it, beat it, or planning to play it. I've beaten it about a few days ago (for PC) and I have this to say; this game is like crack. I literally could not put it down until I was finished, and I had like two or three all nighters playing this game, exploring the wastelands, seeing how people made it in the post apocalyptic world, and trying to piece together what happened to cause the whole mess.

The game's world is HUGE, and there are STILL places I've never seen or heard of. I think it may be smaller than say Oblivion in terms of straight land mass, but there's so much to do around every corner you won't find everything in a short time no matter what you do. I'm sort of glad I beat the game only because I got my life back.

But yeah, I'll throw in more thoughts as the topic goes along. Discuss! Spoilers are fair game, as long as you use the right tags and hide them!
We didn't have a Fallout 3 thread? What's wrong with you people?
Let me say this clearly: I fucking love this game. It sucks you up like a Thai hooker on suck-for-a-buck night and doesn't let go until it's drained all the life from your cold, limp carcass. It can also do shit to your head at certain times (read: Vault 106).
Also, Tranquility Lane is the best quest ever. Period.
Ah... Fallout 3...

It's such a great game. Let me discuss pros and cons, I won't even involve spoilers.

Pros
-Awesome new battle system
-Ammo weighs nothing
-A canine friend is more interactive and can help with finding things
-Even more overall activity
-Oblivion styled gameplay
-More designs in the wastes
-Encounters and locations are scattered Everywhere.
-Old characters (from previous Fallout games meet up with you.)
-Perks gained after each level
-Game starts from the moment you're born
-Much more interactivity with children
-The Mesmer
-The President

Cons
-Less randomized encounters. In Fallout 2: on a random encounter, I met up with a group of knights led by King Arthur looking for a Holy Grail. They did not give me anything, and had nothing on their corpses when I killed them. They were simply put in the game for humor. There really is nothing like that in Fallout 3.
-No Child Killing. I'm gonna get a lot of, "You need to see a psychiatrist if you wanna kill children" posts against me, but, whatever. I killed a shop owner to get into his inventory, and a child caught me. I couldn't kill the kid so he ratted me out to the sheriff. Also, not to mention something that could possibly happen in Megaton that kills kids anyway.
-Discovering things is much, much harder. All you had to do in fallout 1 and 2 to get from one place to another was click where you wanted to go. walking on foot is very slow to compare.
-Took out the slaver tattoo concept. Not really a big deal, but there are slavers.
-Story progresses too easily. Same problem Oblivion had, the main quest was just too short. Previous Fallout games took much, much longer.

I think I've nailed pretty much everything. :)
Yeah the story is really short ... and I wish i could kill children :(
Definitely one of the best games i've played.

I'm surprised Max isn't in here showing his love for the game. :)
I'm surprised Max isn't all over this topic.
I'm on my third play through now and trying to be pure unarmed on Very Hard difficulty ... It's really time consuming, because you have to wait for the enemies to come to you rather than running to them ...
I'm on mhy second playthrough of the game and am doing it in the hardest difficulty.

I think "Hard" is harder than "Very Hard"
It seems like the enemies take more damage in Very Hard mode, but you also take more damage.
In Hard mode, it takes hundreds of shots to take down the Yao Guai and Deathclaws.
But my perfect combination is V.A.T.S. + 10 agility + 80 unarmed skill and 80 sneak then I litterally beat their ass up! Then I snack down the drugs (Like Jet) and kick their ass in V.A.T.S. with my Fisto!
Tell me about it. I have found myself just shooting the bastards a thousand times till they die.
What crazy things have you found in the game so far? Here's a list of some cool things. Some of these are credited to other players that (and some I've directly quoted) I've discussed this game with.

- In Tenpenny Tower, most of the water sources give you no/very few rads. I just thought it really added to the 'rich' feeling.

- Pickpocket someone, and place a grenade or mine in their inventory. LOL.

- While sneaking, stand in front of a Brahmin and press A.

- In the soutwest corner of the map, near Tenpenny Tower, is a place called the Dunwich Building. It is unlike anywhere else. Good luck.

-There are Chinese holdout soldiers EVERYWHERE.

-I've mentioned the skeletal man trying to break into the bunker before.

-Vault Tec letters in some mailboxes (Either accepting or rejecting the recipient for life in the vault)

-The kids in Little Lamplight eat moss that grows on human remains.

-Sometimes you'll actually witness an alien spaceship exploding in the sky over you.

-Communist radio station in the vicinity of Arlington Cemetery

-Rivet City is in the real location of the Anacostia Naval Yard.

I really want this game. I was going to buy it, but my brother told my parents to get it for me for Christmas, and since they already did their shopping, I'm going to have to wait until then to play it.

Bummer.
Crazy thing I've found?
Tell a follower to wait ... then fast travel away from them and wait 24 hours ... boom "Clover has died" ... wierd
I like this game a lot. It is one of the best games I have ever played.

But . . . is it just me or does this game not have much personality? It's like the staff knew they were making an awesome game and they were all very talented but maybe nobody gave a damn and they were just making the game by rote (using Fallout 1 & 2 as a template). I guess the problem is that this is exactly what I was expecting. The game is completely unsurprising and meets all of my expectations a little too closely!

There is no room for Fallout 3 love in my heart. Only hate.
