[RM2K3] WEIRD BUG WHERE THE GAME FORCES ME TO GO UP

Posts

Pages: 1
hi, i just got rpg maker 2003 and whenever i test my game it forces me to go up no matter what i do. i press down in the menus and it stops, but i can't go back up so i have to loop back around. in-game it just sends me to the top of the map and i can't go back down. i've tried restarting, unplugging my keyboard and plugging it back in, reinstalling drivers (both built-in and usb, yes im running a laptop) and reinstalling the game. none of these solutions work. how can i fix this???

EDIT: Hello everyone, sorry for going quiet. I didn't really figure out how to fix it but the program works on my other computer. I've concluded that it was something wrong with the PC I was using. Thank you for the suggestions!

I'm not even sure this is in any way close to the issue you're having, but I know that in some versions of RPG Maker, the player / cursor can get stuck moving in one direction for seemingly no reason. The way that can be fixed is simply by pressing the Num Lock key a few times.

Again, this might be something completely different from what you're experiencing, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to at least suggest. I hope you can get it solved.

I can identify with this. Like, I could not be holding any key, have no controller hooked in, and it's as if the right arrow button is being pressed. Or maybe it's the up arrow. Whatever the case. The issue isn't necessarily limited to RPG Maker either. I've had it happen when playing through ePSXe, PSX2, and DOSbox as well.

What seems to work for me is to press whatever button that seems to be "held". It's not a permanent solution by any means, but, it's the only solution I can offer.
This is a known bug with the way RPGMaker interracts with the keyboard software. See this link for more information: http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/10970/
Does it happen with any other version of RPGmaker, like VX Ace, and/or MV?

nope, it only happens in 2003
also, thank you for the suggestions so far everyone, i'll try those soon!
oh yeah, i've also tried the keyboard fix program... that doesnt work either
If you have any sort of external controller plugged into your computer, switch it off or unplug it and that should fix it. There is also another quick fix on some tutorials here, if all else fails I know restarting your computer should surely take care of that.
I've encountered a similar problem a few times before.
I'm not sure, but I think that it happened when I pressed two keys at the same time, like an arrow key and X for instance.
I sometimes managed to fix it by mashing both keys together a few times. At other times, restarting the computer did the trick, but not always.

This usually happens to me when I have a game controller plugged in. Upon testing, I realized that 2k3 was trying to get input from the keyboard, mouse, AND gamepad, and it's not really designed to do that. I can only assume it's because my gamepad axis is below where 2k3 wants it to be. I don't know what's going on in your case, but that'd be definitely the first thing I checked.

I can confirm that this only happens to me when I have more than just the keyboard and mouse providing user input.
