I REMEMBER SWEARING I WOULD NEVER BUY A SAGA GAME AGAIN ...

... and then I bought Last Remnant. Actually, it's decent so far. But, yes, for those who haven't gotten it yet, it for all intents and purposes is the next-gen entry in the SaGa franchise. Made by Akitoshi Kawazu and the SaGa team. The battle system is the high point so far, as it seems they've finally hit on something pretty good. Instead of PCs, you have squads of PCs that you give commands to in battle. It's pretty nifty, and rather than waste time writing about it, I'm going back to play. I just wanted to publicly post that Kawazu got me. :D
I'm picking this up tomorrow and can't wait to play it. I really enjoyed Final Fantasy XII's battle system so i should definitely like this one.
Last Remnant is a SaGa game? Neat! I remember I got so lost in Romancing SaGa 3 that I had to stop playing altogether, and Minstrel Song was completely overwhelming and admittedly the character designs crept me out a little. Plus, it was so lazily designed (i.e. You can't talk to characters if they're in motion. In fact, you just walk right through them).
It's on the 360, right? I no own a PS3... :P

Also I think he meant SaGa Frontier series not Romancing Saga, correct me if I'm wrong though? Been looking at some screenshots and the game it self looks really good and it appears SE have finally managed to make a town with more then 10 people in it!
I hear it has a few technical problems though?
Tau: PS3 and PC versions will be out sometime next year; I'm guessing next fall.
Romancing SaGa and SaGa Frontier are part of the same franchise. Last Remnant is not technically part of the SaGa franchise, but it's definitely a Spiritual Successor, made by the SaGa team, and as I said, for all intents and purposes seems to be a re-imagining of SaGa.

Oh man! I didn't care about this game at all but I had no idea Kawazu was making it. I have been wondering where he went off to.
I am def. buying this ASAP.
EDIT: Now that I check out the reviews I can tell that it is a Kawazu game and I can tell that for all the reasons it gets low scores I will love it. I think maybe Kawazu is too brilliant for American critics.

I really think the quality in Square-Enix RPGs has declined over the years. That's not to say I won't get this game (I probably will), but it feels like they could have done a better job with the game. There are numerous complaints about the huge slowdowns and texture pop-ins, it doesn't feel like they put in the quality effort that I used to remember. They're working on too many games at once, and this game feels rushed IMO.
I bet the soundtrack and design is top quality and the game is probably fun, so I won't let a few bad things stop me from getting it. But I can't just ignore the lack of quality I'm seeing from the company in recent years. :(
Maybe the PS3 or PC version will fix this?

Neophyte: Maybe the PC version, but an Unreal game running better on PS3? Possible but don't bet on it.
I'm actually of the opposite opinion. I don't think their games are any worse and in some cases (this being an example) have improved. It might be because I was never a huge Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, or Mana fan to begin with. Also, Last Remnant was made by the SaGa team. They've been working on Last Remnant and only Last Remnant since they finished Romancing SaGa's PS2 remake a few years back, so regardless of whether Square Enix as a company is overextended or not, it wouldn't affect this game any.

author=iishenron link=topic=2522.msg46592#msg46592 date=1227490854Have you not played Unreal Tournament 3.. Although they didn't really differ from each other. Meh forget I said anything.

I might hire this game just out of curiosity now.. But I really couldn't get into Saga Frontier 2 and haven't played a single Romancing Saga game.
