[RM2K3] PICTURE FOLDERS

My project requires a pretty massive library of pictures to be called between the custom menu and custom battle systems. I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is any way to have more than one picture folder to pull from. I'm concerned about lag, crashing or even project management as the picture totals grow in quantity.
Simply adding another folder doesn't work. I'm hoping someone knows a work around or plugin which somehow expands the show picture command.

If you're using the unofficial version, you might try Cherry's RPG Maker 2009 Ultimate. Among other features, it does support subfolders.
I'm not sure if 2009 works with the legal version, though if you're using that, you can always take advantage of the sprite sheet feature.

I think when I started this project I avoided plugins because I didn't want potential for extra bugs or crashes, but honestly 2009 could be a life saver. I think I'm using the official version though. Guess I'll be making a backup and seeing what I can do.
One question with the subfolders feature. If I already have 2k3 pointing to pictures in the picture folder, I assume I'll need to do a bunch of changes to the show picture events?
@Jpratt
Have you tested any sort of lag thresholds with those pictures? I haven't encountered any lag in the rpg maker 2003 retail version yet, and I'm also using shitloads of pictures and events at once!

Not yet with the main menu because I keep everything under 50 pics and unanimated. With an animated battle system I was worried about spending a pile of time working on something that becomes too much for the system, between pics and events.

EDIT: Don't need to reprogram anything when moving pictures to subfolders, but fo have to reupload. Fortunately Ultimate makes this less painful than the default program. About 521 pics to go...
FYI, this did work for the official version. I just had to run ultimate ad an administrator.

Nicee man! I can't wait to see how your project is coming along with all that customization :D

@koopakush thank you. If I could get around some of these lame technical issues I could get back to making serious headway.
So after moving all the images from my pictures folder into subfolders, pictures wouldn't pull up in my project. So I imported 275 of the pictures last night again which allowed them to work. Today I realized all the imports did was copy the images back into the picture root folder.
Is this supposed to happen with 2009 Ultimate? I'm not sure how this would actually be helpful if so. Maybe I need to change some settings on the program? If anyone had any ideas, please enlighten this nub.
