In the grand scheme of 2020 this may seem silly, but to me personally I'm devistated.

Last night the MY DOCUMENTS folder of my pc got wiped clean. Dont know how it happened. Im computer savvy and I tried everything I could but to no avail.

In the folder contained my RPG that I've been working on for like 7 years..... and its now gone, not recoverable.

Have any of you guys and gals ever suffered a blow like this before and how did it effect you.

Dude, that sucks! I got no advice, just sympathy. :(
Well, that sucks, but 7 years without a backup?

I lost a project once, but that was in an age before cloud services and cheap usb sticks.
Nowadays I save every 0.5-2 hours to cloud and about once a week to usb.
(usb the whole project, cloud usually just the data or js folders with the changes)

I haven't lost seven years worth of work, but, each time I read one of these threads that lament lost work of even one month, I start to thinking that I should do backups more often. To loose an entire project, and have nothing to go back on is just... there are no words for that.

For full disclosure, I typically make backups quarterly. That feels like the bare minimum, though?
You had a Windows Update or any other important updates the last days? Try making a system recovery to set your pc back to that point. Maybe, if you're lucky, that could help restore your documents folder as it was.

Yeah this is yet another lesson to back up one's files regularly! After almost catastrophically losing a computer, I bought an external HD that I use every few weeks to clone my data drive. Which I should do now.

Everyone back up your files!
Right click the folder, select Properties, go to the Previous Version, and see what's available. Quickly. You don't have a lot of time before Windows creates an up-to-date backup.

This has saved my bacon more than once. Best of luck!
Goodness! I'm sorry to hear.

Definitely consider investing in a dedicated external drive for backups, and a cloud backup service if you trust your content to be on one. It's also a good idea to replace the drive every 3-5 years.

They've come way down in price, too. And a 1 TB drive shouldn't run you more than $60 USD nowadays.
Sad loss.

Your important computer files need frequent backup: USB thumb drive, SD card, external drive, RMN locker ...

You're magical to me.

Very sorry to hear this, that is super rough!

Gonna repeat what everyone else has said and say "back up your files!" Even just getting a USB stick or two and backing it up once a week could save you in the future.

Back when I was in my teens, I lost a project I had spent a year and a half on. It got hit with that infamous corrupt map tree thing that can happen to 2k and 2k3 games. I was devastated, but I eventually remade all of the lost content from scratch... only to never finish the game, the scope was too big and I had to abandon it several years later XD;;;
Sorry took me so long to reply. I tried restoring to a previous version of windows but no luck. I tried every trick to recovery recycling bin but it wasn't there. I thought it might have been Uploaded to my OneDrive but no.

I literally tried everything and I am just completely baffled. I do have some backups but a lot of them are really old. So yes I am kicking myself for not being more vigilant with the backups.

My brother said to me what's the big deal it's just a game. That kind of made me mad because I put a lot of time over the years into it.

If I ever find myself able to get back to RPG maker I learned the hard lesson about backing up more often.

You're right, he can be a dick. I guess the silver lining to this is, I've had an idea for a backup project for like a year now. Guess nothing stopping me from starting it now.

Kory for the win?????????

Wow, really?
Ha, yeah, had this happen to me recently because I was too stubborn to do backups since I never experienced any data loss in 20 years of using RPG Maker. RIP Blackmoon Prophecy III.
